My boyfriend and I are in the middle of moving across the country. Everytime we get to a little motel with WiFi I make it a point to watch your videos. Your channel is so peaceful and motivating! We're moving to establish roots in a part of the country we have always wanted to live, to buy property and to have a little homestead of our own. Thank you for bringing all of us along in your journey! You and your family have helped me realize my dreams are possible. Thank you

I've always embraced each season......I understand winter can be hard for some but I know in my heart that the good Lord gave us the beauty of plants and trees to grace our surroundings. That the Winter season gives them their time to rest and allowing us to rest as well. Beautifully said my friend.

I love the thought of drooling over the seed catalog, but I think it would also be great to have a sort of “class” on garden planning. Maybe even a series. I’ve been a gardener for almost as long as I can remember, but I am always amazed at how much I learn from you and other KZbinrs and I thank you all. Learning to plan a better garden would be such a blessing.

Jess, I agree about a time of rest. It is a different time. Time to nurture things inside the home. Issues, school, family. You have a beautiful family. Share the time you use to utilise the things from the garden, that you have harvested. And there can be green in the home other than just food. Cultivate relationship, enjoy your harvest. Love watching.

Dear Jess, I couldn't finish watching last night, since it was way too late, so after I went to bed I figured I should embrace the fall and winter. I even dreamed about it. And now that I finished watching your farewell garden tour, I am completely in awe that God is showing me to learn to enjoy this time of year again; in such an inimitable humorous way. It is a true blessing to hang out with you. Thank you for being you. I am so on that journey with you! And I am looking forward how different (all) our garden plans will turn out, since we (all) are in such different time/temperature/climate zones! It will be a joyful ride :D I bless you too Love from The Netherlands/Holland, Diana

I've watched many of your videos from your first homestead and I don't recall actually seeing the view of your garden, a full 360 degree view, from your pavillion and so I think it was an awesome video for that reason. I kinda look forward to the winter garden. Its a time to rest and reflect. After all of the long hot summer day of cultivating, planting, harvesting, canning and freezing winter is a welcome change. We have December to look forward to our mailboxes to be loaded with seed and gardening catalogs. In the winter months we can enjoy the fruits of our labor from all of the beautiful jars that we filled from the summer gardens. When I open up a jar of heirloom tomatoes with basil leaves in them the aroma and taste alone makes all the work that went into the whole process from seed to jar so rewarding.ln my gardens in the early winter months is a time for planting lots of spring blooming bulbs, garlic, shallots, perinals and adding tree to the ever growing fruit orchard.Jess I really enjoy watching yor channel because even though I have been garden for about 40 years I have learned alot from you.I also enjoy your devotionals eminsly.Thank for your great work.God bless you and your lovely family.Reaching out to you from Greensboro North Carolina.

I get excited about the winter for different reasons. I go from the gardening of out side into the quilting and making them garden like. I'm not sure if I will be able to do much this winter with all the other things on my plate. But usually in winter I do baby quilts for crisis pregnancy centers and then use the scraps for pot holders that I often times use to raise money for various programs at church. My favorite was several years ago for a single mom's ministry. I also enjoy looking to see how I can improve my garden the following year.

Love the idea of a celebratory party to honor the full life that has been enjoyed in the garden. Those basil plants can have the tops 'started' over in small pots and grow VERY well into nice plants all winter if in the green house. I hate to see them not be used that way. Basil is my favorite (tulsi) to be exact, and if I could drive up to your place I would beg you for some tops to start for myself. A couple days spent with you in the green house planning with all the choices and ideas would be a wonderful way to spend some time. Great idea!

Jess, Thank you so much for this video. our weather here in central Texas is running side by side of your weather. My wild boar farms tomato plants froze last night. we harvested them yesterday before the freeze, yet they were still loaded with hundreds of blooms and beautiful leaves. all food was harvested before the wet, raining freeze. even a ton of loofahs, ginger and turmeric. yeah! I agree with the do over next year. We are exhausted, seems like our summer never ended. it got hot early in the year and blasted us until a couple of weeks ago. tonight will be 26 degrees and next week will be in the high 70's. go figure- fruit trees will probably bloom out. Thank You for the inspiration, we had the most fruitful vertical garden this year. God Bless You, Miah and your beautiful family.

Hi Jess! I was remembering back around the time you planted the banana plants you mentioned maybe doing an experiment where you take some of the leaves and use them in cooking, like instead of aluminum foil or something. Maybe now is a good time to try that since they're going to freeze anyway... By the way, your garden looks so lovely. You've inspired me to grow so many new things next year. Can hardly wait for spring. (Our first frost happened 4 days ago.)

Hi Jess, I don’t normally comment because everyone has already said how awesome you are and I usually just like their comments. But I had a thought while watching your video today, that you might think about getting a GoPro, to use in the rain and then do voice over or/ and music because they don’t have good audio. A lot of Adventure channels do this. Just a thought, love your channel thanks for sharing with us.

This video, particularly your words at the end regarding winter brought to mind a beautiful quote from the play The Fantasticks (on a side note, gardening is folded into the plot if this play). Anyway, I love this poignant quote: “There is a curious paradox that no one can explain: who understands the secrets of the reaping of the grain? Who understands why spring is born out of winter's laboring pain, or why we all must die a bit before we grow again?” The lines have more meaning in the context of the play, of course. But still lovely on their own. Thanks for another lovely video!

I love the winter months, a time of dreaming, a time of creating, writing letters, poetry..my storey set down in a journal for the wee ones who will know me only through the stories my children tell to their children, and their grandchildren. Houseplants are the indoor gardens that make a home so much more than walls. The kitchen becomes a place where baking loafs and simmering stews create the magicks of memories while window gives thought to winters debut, the soulful feeling of joy as re-creation happens beneath the soils..truly the hidden garden of the mothers sacred love. The joyous musicks of laughter and collaberation of life's truer purpose which is connecting and connection with those who's presence is our hearts own beating. Oh and the stories we will tell around the feasting tables..and the hearth fire, and they always begin with my voice ringing out..Once upon a time, long long ago and so very far away when the dew of the earth still sat gentle upon the forrests of time themselves..The each in turn adds to the magickal tale, which by the way should be recorded in the journal you write which somday becomes the treasure of the wee one who will only know you through the stories told..Bright blessings my

I also get very sad and actually feel like I’m mourning the end of summer and sunny warm days. I’m trying this year to make that same conscious effort to not be so sad. It’s not easy and I’ve had many health issues -chronic illnesses and autoimmune diseases and just got diagnosed with another AI disease today. With the conscious effort of trying to be accepting of the change in weather it’s helped. We have to go to a memorial on Saturday for my sweet beautiful “light up the room” cousin Mariah, who passed away suddenly at 46, I am trying to bring joy as much as I can in seeing family and knowing that she’s wrapped in the loving arms of Heavenly Father and my parents and aunts who have passed before her, I know they welcomed her with open arms. It’s her parents who break my heart that they had to lose their precious daughter, I don’t think there is anything more painful than a parent losing their child. I can’t wait to see her parents and hug and love on them. Family is so important. Thank you Jess for sharing how you struggle too. It helps those of us to not feel so alone. Cheers to a beautiful cozy fall and winter and enjoying our families. Xoxo 💕

I'm so sorry about your cousin. I wanted to see if you've ever heard of moringa. It's an amazing tree that grows very easily and its one of the super foods. It has almost all of the antioxidants we need to stay really healthy and it helps with AI diseases. They sell it now already in powder form in the health stores. We grow our own and make our own powder and then capsules. A couple teaspoons of that a day has completely changed the way we feel. There are videos here on KZbin if you're interested. Just thought I'd pass it along. Bless you!

Sending hugs from NE Tennessee! We also struggled with the weather 18" of water in the garden on Easter followed by weeks of rain....then hot hot weather and No rain...then a gully washer. We had fresh produce but nothing to preserve, but that's ok because we were building a house. Last year I had LOADS of produce to put up. What aa blessing for you to get rain on a pretty regular basis. In So Cal, in Riverside County(where there are TONS of fires right now) we pray for rain! The spring gave us crazy amounts of rain, but after that, nothing..... love to you and your family!

I look forward to feeling out over seeds and ideas during the winter. It would be cool to have a visual scetch of the beds and see your spacing, where you are planting what now. Later it would be cool to go back and view the scetch of how it turned out different. That way on the rainy days we can have coffee together and you can teach gardening inside too.

Our first freeze 25° started at 1 am and lasted until almost 9am. My pumpkin vines and squash vines are a wilted mess. As I have been pulling out various dying plants over the past several weeks...all I can say is this time of year is rather sad in The garden. Now that we have had a hard freeze, the garden is a blank slate...time to add manure, etc. Time to finish building my wooden pallet walls for my raised bed, so the good soil has boundries. One more hard freeze night, tonight. Hoping for a day of no wind so I can put some plastic up, soon. On Monday we got our chickens ready for this cold weather. So thankful that Tractor Supply had some tarps on sale recently, and I had some money to buy some.

Thank you so much for introducing me to the fact that seed catalogues exist. I had no idea before, but this year I took them on holiday with me to read on my sun lounger and I plan on spending many happy hours this winter planning what I wanna plant, how much, and which varieties. I kinda have the same goal of embracing winter and making the best of it, instead of avoiding it as much of possible, which is what happens most years. Seed catalogues also help with the Christmas wish list 😁

I understand exactly how you feel. You inspired me with the Soil Bags in greenhouse that I put together a Cold Frame. So I've got Swiss Chard living good spinach and some kale coming up. I had taken a pallet and tried to grow the above plus lettuce and with my puppy it didn't work. Well low and behold I saw all these new sprouts starting. So to save them I put Windows all around with area to get in has Straw Bale as door. It's protected from elements. Thank You for the inspiration. I'm still getting tomatoes. Need frost to harvest Brussel Sprouts. God Bless and Peace Be With You All ☮️

coleus is super easy to root. when it's damp out you'll notice there are small bumps along the entire stem of the plant. every one of those bumps is a root beginning to grow. you can virtually chop it into a million pieces and if there is enough moisture, and nutrients, it will create a million new clones

I normally hate this time of year. But, this year will be different. I'm embracing it!! Why? I'm going through the change and as soon as the temps cooled off my hot flashes almost completely stopped. YAY!! I still have a few a day. But, it's not NONSTOP like it was. I have two tomato plants left. A red cherry and a goliath. I put big heavy black contractor bags over them this afternoon. I couldn't help myself. They have baby tomatoes ALL over them. I just want to try and give it a shot. It's not hard to cover and uncover every day. I might get some more tomatoes, right??? I may be in denial.

You are, as always, very lovely. If you want to truly embrace winter, come up to MN. Lots to embrace in the middle of winter. Ice-fishing, ice sculptures and ice castles. Snow-shoeing, skiing and snow-blowing. Freezing fingers and faces, thawing out by a fire and hot chocolate, then freezing again. Pushing cars out of snow banks after the plow goes by. Chipping ice dams off of the roof. Having to warm up the car 1/2 hour before driving. Yep. It’s all good. We do it every single year. We’ve been indoctrinated to embrace our winters here in MN. We have to. ❤️

So happy to hear your new outlook on winter. I am usually down about winter too, but decided to grow lettuce through the winter in my seed starting room under lights and that really changed my attitude. I am on my third batch of lettuce inside and feel really good about it. Like you said the ground will be resting and so will I. You still gave a lot of work to do in the garden. Have fun 😀

How do you keep your grasses down that grows in the paths you walk on? We rototill the entire vegetable garden side of the garden every year. Now I'm determined to put raised beds back in the garden. You inspire me so much Jess. I am always mentioning you in my house to my husband that I'm doing it the way you're doing it. Our fencing we use in the food rows to hold various climbing plants.... but they are weak fencing and hang over at times with the weight of the plant on them. Ugh. Thank you for all the explanations. I love hearing... why and what..... etc. I have to get out and plant MORE carrots. I've been clearing spaces from plants that were done. I know this was last years video, but every video you do I love hearing more .....
