Powerful Lecture! I eat primarily fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains and have been eating this way for over 6 years. I had many ailments before starting this diet. Since then, I am free of aches and pain. I am more clear minded and focused, energetic & strong. My weight has been stable. I had many illnesses, but since I started eating a primarily plant based diet, moderate exercise most days of the week, getting 8 hours of good sleep per night and minimizing my stress level, I am the healthiest I've ever been. Dr Fuhrman, keep spreading the message. Our food is or medicine and our medicine is our food. Food kills and food heals... I heard a quote recently " we are digging our graves with our own knives & forks" Thanks Dr Fuhrman!!

When I was a transit van driver, I had one passenger who was was 101 years old. She lived alone on 5 acres, Did her own shopping, slow, but did it.. She had a garden and ate right. And she was sharp as a pin. She always talked.. giving "us kids" advise. It was a little annoying but at the same time she's over a century old.. She's seen a lot and experienced a lot and her wisdom really was valuable. I know I need to make drastic changes with my eating habits. I am 60 pounds over weight. I never was till I got to my 40's, and got internet. I do want to be around to watch my grand kids grow up, and their kids someday. It's hard tho.

It’s crazy that some people are calling this guy a quack, saying that his teaching has no scientific basis, or that the diet is too hard. This is not a diet so you can lose pounds to look good at the beach. this is a lifestyle. In an age where everyone is sick, it is politically incorrect to tell them to eat for health...because that means you’re “blaming them” for their disease! This doctor isn’t saying anything new but he is revolutionary just for saying it! This is such an amazing time we live in.

I moved from Santa Cruz, CA of 42 years and my nearly 7-year-old and I moved to NE Minnesota and my son was enrolled despite my reluctance as a solo parent at Washington Elementary School, Cloquet, Mn and what a nightmare! I asked for filtered water, they eye-rolled, I asked for parents to contribute and have a cafeteria and put together fruit, vegetables, and they mocked me, I carried a clear mason jar with herbal tea and they slapped me on the back and asked if it was moonshine but in a very condescending way. They are largely anxious, some rabidly so, there are critical thyroid issues here (no iodine in the soil!) poor diet, low water intake, paper mills. More suiciding, from food, more addiction, and even my entire family is distanced due to my many decades of showing how energetic, fast-thinking, able to digest and read, and feel young at age 58, it's like I am hated and while I RADIATE they hate! I offer 35 stellar years of immense study, reversing disease, awesome testimonials and I'm still "manually moving inflammation" with folks who are in a body much like a cow or calf on a factory farm, inflated, swollen, ashy skin, ropey rashes around their neck, rough feet, thin haylike hair, an so sickly, medicated and they are completely out of gear! 17 years of offering a way out and they are NOT willing to even change their diet? Planning to move out here next year had to stay for several reasons and had to work! Doesn't matter if I tell them yes WE can reverse most often cysts, nodules, perhaps even tumors, kidney issues, and I developed a Four-Part System: Gather, Stabilize, Detoxify and Regenerate! I need a community that would like to have someone who is passionate and excited to work providing these kinds of services or I will go mobile for a year or two with the dogs I live with! I have taught free skool, 14 courses through community education and at whole foods! www.naturallywithkaren.com also offer HTMA (hair mineral testing!) then interpret and recommend! I hope it is not like this everywhere?

In my state we despise arrogant California refugees that talk rudely, drive rudely, shop without manners, and complain endlessly about how great Cali was. Those people from Cali were cash home buyers which priced all locals out of the housing market as our local salaries can't match. Perhaps as an outsider, you needed to first build relationships with locals before telling them everything about their way of eating was wrong? Your heart was in the right place and I fully agree with what you were saying. As a military brat I can testify you must be very careful entering a local community that may or may not want you to be there.

I think this information is so powerful. It explains so much I have wondered about. Yet, I am confused when I hear so many stories about people who have cured themselves of cancer by eating raw foods and drinking the fresh juices from them at many times during the day...downing as much as they can from this nutrition to flood their bodies with the nutrients...and apparently achieving remission of their cancer..when I am hearing Dr. Fuhrman say that it is important to remain for some time in the catabolic phase of metabolism, thereby abstaining from consuming anything, for somewhat long stretches of time, in order to be truly healthy. These ideas are opposed to each other. How can both be true? Is it harmful to eat that apple in the late afternoon, between lunch and dinner, for its valuable nutrition, but thereby halting catabolism and unhealthfully speeding up overall metabolism? I realize this has nothing to do with the fast food topic, but the statement regarding manipulating metabolism to control the rate of aging is a foundational principle applicable to all types of eating. So I don't follow one the lines of reasoning, but I don't know which one it is that I shouldn't follow.

What are you talking about Popeye - consensus in the medical society shoudln't mean much with such an unhealthy population. But Fuhrman's books all conain 100's of references to medical journal articles. So, he is espousing the science. The science is not always applied to the recommendations of , say, the USDA; and, of course, there are vast economic interests at stake that want people to be confused - just like tobacco companies paid people to refute evidence that smoking caused cancer - and if you wanted to keep smoking you could choose to listen to them. What quackery? That caloric restriction extends lifespan? That's easy to check - there are vast numbers of studies. That vegetables and fruit and beans are good for you? That processed food is not? That animal foods are not? Get a clue.

We pay over $3 TRILLION in 'health' care TAXES, EVERY YEAR. There is no way we can do a health care for all system ... well, there is no way politicians will go for it... so, if you want health care, you have to CARE about HEALTH. EASIEST by far way to achieve that is hold to a whole food , plant based diet with plenty of B12 & FLAX. No rocket science here folks. What will that do? Reduce patient counts. Lesson the strain on the system. Fewer pharmaceuticals. Lower demand = lower costs. Business 101. This is the elephant in the room. We can't afford infrastructure. We can't afford schools. We can't afford public health care. We have to change, individually or we can continue to prop up the health care industry, year after year. Cheers.

Good talk but he raised a very important question while joking about it: how worthy is it to lecture about it when the second you present the people with a unhealthy option they go for it? The core of the problem is not knowledge, its choices. Give the people only healthy choices and they will take them. So its more about a political problem than a educational one. We all know drinking alcohol or smoking is bad but still do it cause it gives short term pleasure. Its about making it easier/cheaper/more appealing to pick the healthy lifestyle choices!

@jazzyfolkk
@jazzyfolkk 6 жыл бұрын
immacarbivore I don't buy his whole "eat less to live longer" schtick. It's too complicated to focus on calorie restriction, you're more likely to make poor food choices and you're probably going to be a stressed out headcase from going hungry all the time. I think it's more important to focus on what you're eating rather than how much. You can always adjust the amounts your eating later on.
@lindtothesayyy
@lindtothesayyy 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I tend to agree. Although I did lose over 100 pounds restricting calories - this was before my plant-based lifestyle - I felt like I was constantly obsessing over food... when I could eat, how much, etc. So I would rather not have to pay attention to those details anymore and just continue to eat clean. Appreciate the response :)
@jazzyfolkk
@jazzyfolkk 6 жыл бұрын
immacarbivore Sure, even water fasting can be extremely beneficial, but we can't starve forever. Fuhrman seems to be fear mongering. If you follow his logic slightly overeating sweet potatoes instantly shortens your lifespan. I call BS.
@lindtothesayyy
@lindtothesayyy 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm not a fan of that type of information. I think it will make it too complicated for people to want to follow because not only are they changing their diet completely to eat super clean, but they also have to restrict. He's the only plant-based doctor I follow that preaches calorie restriction. While I do see benefits - because I've been eating in abundance and not losing any more weight, so I probably should tone it down a bit - I don't think that you have to be as nit picky with restricting whole plant-foods to be healthy and live a long time.

immacarbivore I agree. I find when I eat more one day, or even for a few days, I am less hungry for the next day or two. I also find that the opposite is true, if I eat less I find I am ravenously hungry and can't stop eating. Even if I eat supposedly "nutrient dense" foods as Fuhrman would say. I wouldn't worry about short term results. If you eat healthy for years you will eventually look like you have eaten healthy for years. It doesn't need to be complicated.

You mentioned that there are some people who may need to eat some animal protein at a less than 5% of calories. I think I may be one of them. How would one do that? Less than 75calories of animal protein daily? More eaten once a week? I am 78 years old and have been a nutritarian since 2011 and have a BMI of 23.3 I feel healthy and fit. However, I am having an issue with thin skin that bleeds easily and has a crepey apprearance on my limbs.

Honestly, if you're at a healthy weight and feel good eating the diet I'd try adding 2-3 teaspoons of cold pressed flax or walnut oil a day first because thin crepey skin sounds more like an essential fatty acid deficiency than a need for animal protein.

Kellyana Douglass eat until your 80 percent full, it’ll get better when the cravings go away, if your not to far off already. What I do when I crave sweets, I eat dried fruits, and when I crave meat or fatty foods, I grab a handful of pecans and almonds or cashews. We are lucky to have such a wide variety of foods to eat! When it comes to a meal, I eat whole grains cooked in a rice cooker, canned beans with herbs and eat until I’m almost full. It would be nice if he didn’t talk about only calories, but the good thing about a plant based diet that has no refinement is that you don’t gain weight no matter how much you eat. You only get healthier

Kellyana - I had the same thought. I think it's critical for the information. But without showing the meals you eat and how much you can enjoy yourself. Or that you can eat as much as you want of certain foods (maybe vegetables, fruit and beans?) that you might feel deprived just thinking about it. On a personal note, I've been whole plant foods for over 12 years, but maintain a bit of extra weight 195 instead of 175 lbs. Which is actually a lot more than a bit. So I'm trying to save my nuts and seeds for the salad - not use dates and pecans as a main meal. And make sure I eat a large salad for lunch, And maybe not eat to - well what's past satiation. Because I can be totally satisfied if I try quitting eating for a bit or be a tad hungry. Or I can pump more in. I"m only being more strict the last week - although I've done it before and I've fluctuated between 175 after my first two months (maintained for a couple years) from 200 or 205 pre my version of Fuhrman. And gradually come back up to 195 over a decade. Anyway, lot better than extrapolating that 200 lbs upwards at the rate I was gaining on the SAD diet, but I need to do something more. So it's very interesting personally, and I kind of liked it. Since caloric restriction is a fundamental underpinning of his H = N / C and the key to human health. But talking about how you achieve satiation on a nutrient dense whole plant foods diet (I would've used the exact same words). In fact, how you achieve it automatically is pretty reassuring.

So your point is we are all going to get cancer anyway, so why change your diet? SMH. It’s been proven that eating a healthy diet can minimize the effects of those other toxins. Your body is less toxic (no toxic food) and better able to fight against the other poisons you mentioned. Plus you flood your body with photochemicals and antioxidants which also help fight against cancer.

Serious question: what type of little animals and how much would I need to eat to safely ensure adequate DHA (and B12) levels without an excess of animal protein. And how should I prepare / consume them? What bugs / lizards. Additionally, how do I catch them. Is this being studied / practiced? We are actually raising free range chickens but we're selling the eggs. Are these of any significant net gain? How about algae for that matter - the DHA is manufactured from algae - could I just grow / eat that?
