Fun fact about Undercover PSP: I was playing through the game on an emulator myself when I clipped through a barrier in a race and began driving around all of the districts in the game. That game was developed by Sumo Digital, who also did the PSP port of Split/Second. Well, I wouldn't say port as in a one to one port, many things have been changed for that version other than the graphics, examples include Airport Terminal using the beta layout seen in one of the trailers for the game proper, physics being questionable at points (no joke, any of the tracks that involve the carrier ship route changer will occasionally cause your car to clip through the world after landing, and it doesn't get better on the inside, as even that as issues, sometimes your car will flip like it's a hot wheels game), menus being based on the beta, extra tracks from the Survival mode, cars having different stats, and more. The Sumo Digital version of the game was heavily based on some parts of the game's Beta, which had been leaked and there are videos of the beta on KZbin.

Great one Dustin! I played the hell out of GT PSP back on my PSP to the point of unlocking all difficulty settings for all races, it was hell. The game actually has one extra final weird gimmick mechanic, and it's actually tied to Gran Turismo 5: You can link the PSP while running it to a PS3 running GT5, and you can transfer over a selection of cars from your garage so that they can be used in Arcade mode. Originally the manual mentioned you'd be able to use it career, but they just limited to Arcade. The real funny thing of the mechanic is, get this: It's the PSP car models on the PS3. So it's completely separate models. Which includes unique variants of vehicles that are only available as Premium cars in the normal game.

I never had the cars go under the map that often even when I emulated it with PPSSPP lol 60fps TDU is probably possible with either Action Replay or CWCheat, at the expense of battery life I'd assume

Test Drive Unlimited has a low framerate cap because of the continuous map, if you uncap it on real hardware and drive a fast enough car then the road and scenery start to disappear, you can even drive off the edge of the map. It actually plays fine on real hardware and since the original PSP-1000 has a pretty blurry screen, you really don't want it to run any faster.
@extradipboneless3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the explanation! I was using a 60fps cheat on CwCheat/Vita before. Game was probably highly tuned to run as good as it can on stock hardware settings. Game is still a great time. 🙂

Just for turning a DS game into a character in the video, giving it somehow a personality and a background is something to cheer, you basically gave a DS game a lore 😂 this goes down as one of my all time favs YT videos, no doubt I will revisit it, good work‼

Need for Speed Most Wanted 5-1-0 was my first Need for Speed game as a kid. I remember getting and playing it 24/7 on my PSP. I thought it was the best racing game yet and literally last week I played the PS2 version and was extremely surprised how different the game was to the PSP port. Overall, I had fond memories of Most Wanted on the PSP, even the soundtrack brings back nostalgia.

As someone who isnt a fan of the Gran Turismo games i enjoyed a lot more than i expected the PSP port. Imo it was very underrated and is one of my most played PSP games due to its content. Possibly GT fans expected other things, but for me this game has all the things i want that the other Gran Turismo games didnt have. Good video btw, would you make videos like this about other platforms?

what makes it different from the other gt games?

@@mansreallysaid Licenses arent mandatory, cockpit view, crashing into things doesnt make you faster, AI actually tries to not hit you, handling is way more accessible, and a more "free play style" of game like those old racing games where you do races for fun in any track with any car with any configuration, without career restrictions basically.
@Gold_Lightan Жыл бұрын
@@mansreallysaid i've played both psp and console versions. I think after tweaking the controls for manual handling on the psp version, i find it exceptionally fun and easy to pick up. Possibly it's easier to control overall, and can take it with you. Also on the smaller screen, it still feels just as fast as driving the ps3 or ps4 GTs. One thing i noticed, the console version is more stressful (in a fun way?), possibly cause it's more of a sim than the psp version, and also it's a bit of a pain if i have to setup my wheel. PSP version is just a fun, good port, and probably the best handheld racer.
@sebastiankulche Жыл бұрын
@@Gold_Lightan The PSP version in max difficult and without assistances is still harder imo, as in the previous games you could abuse certain things to break the difficulty, like using and upgrading certain cars (since cars you race didnt scale to your one for the most part), crashing into walls to gain speed, taking illegal shortcuts or fine tuning cars in a certain way (since they dont work as intended). The PSP version of GT was GT gameplay done right.

1:49:09 as someone who has played loads of NASCAR PSP as well as NASCAR 07 (the game it was ported from), I can say that it is absolutely incredible. It is straight-up the PS2 version of the game, just on a mobile device. Of course, the HUD, menus, and graphics are different from the PS2 version, but in terms of core gameplay and features, it is the same game. The career mode is rather in-depth, and just like the console version, it is still better than any career mode we have gotten in any game since. You could do full-length 3+ hour races if you wanted to, and to the best of my memory, you even race against a full field of 43 cars. To put things into perspective, in Gran Turismo PSP you could only race against three other cars. The driving imo feels much better than the console versions, on consoles the cars were ridiculously loose and really hard not to spin out. But on PSP the cars are a lot tighter and easier to control, which really helps because you dont have a real joystick like on console. The only feature I can think of that they had to cut is the team control thingy (which I never even used anyway). But that likely wasnt a technical limitation, rather it was likely because the PSP didn't actually have enough buttons for it to be implemented. My only complaint about this game is that you cannot have multiple career saves at once, which isnt a dealbreaker but it can be pretty annoying if you're like me and sometimes want a couple of different game saves. Overall rating: In terms of pure gameplay, I would say 8/10 or maybe even 8.5/10. But due to the fact that this is a straight-up PS2 game on the go, I would almost be tempted to say 9/10 or higher.

Funny how on DS most Need for Speed games were among the best in the library while on the PSP they were usually among the worst, just shows that PSP had way higher standards for games and churning out 6 games in a span of 5 years was not a good idea.

20:59 quick warning then, the handling has gimmicks depending on which game. Every game from Ridge Racer PSP (the prequel to what you played) onward has pretty much similar handling, but older games are different. Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer Revolution require you to wrestle the car out of a drift. Rage Racer needs you wrestle the car just to drift like a human being. Type 4 will be a *laughs in athiest* more stable. Ridge Racer V had unique handling for each car and its variants. Some cars make driving grueling (Extra Toreador, Standard EO) while others make it a breeze (Extra Fiaro, Extra Solare, Standard Toreador) As someone who also started out on one of the newer games, let me warn you that you won’t have as much fun once you go back before 1998

NFS UG Rivals also has the most detailed car models ever seen in a portable NFS game (ignoring Shift, but I don't know how to feel about that one). L.A. Rush's best feature was the PSP exclusive one, this is, the Stunt Arena (which you didn't talk about for some reason?). As a kid, I played through both of the Asphalt games (DS and PSP) and I preferred the more challenging and unique handling of the PSP version. I was already sh¡tting my pants when I saw the scale of TDU in the PS2, when I discovered it was the same on the PSP I had to double check, it is trully incredible. Midnight Club reflections scale with screen resollution (as they do in GTA and even NFS PSP games), so in original hardware they just look ok. I've been working for years now to restore the PC Carbon look on the PSP, there's a lot of work to do, but it already looks heaps better, hopefully one day I'll publish it, I do this 'cause is the only NFS with open world in a portable device. Burnout Legends is really an enjoyable and PS2-like experience, and Dominator is pretty much more of the same. You didn't mention the first Ridge Racer, the ATV Off road series and the challenging but rewarding Colin McRae Rally 2005 Plus. Yep, I'm a s*cker for PSP racing games, and in general any racing game that I could get my hands on.

Yeah I was about to say about Stunt Mode(?) in L.A. Rush, which I'm guessing it replaces those challenges in the OG version where you have to drive collecting kind of nitrous coins while having some kind of drunk filter on your screen (since the prize cars from the Stunt actually same). Funny enough is that I actually beated couple of challenges first in the Stunt mode and unlock bunch of Midway cars before doing the story mode, then using one of the Midway cars that just OP-ing the whole story
