Fun Fact: Fights would often break out between those meant to die by guillotine, but not for the reason you may think. These fights were to decide who would go first, which was to be desired. After just a few drops, the blade of the guillotine would become dull and require multiple drops to fully decapitate someone, which was, as you would imagine, extraordinarily painful

@nonmagicmike7234 жыл бұрын
Killing women and children of the counterrevolutionaries was often part of the plan. Those women, the thinking went, were very likely to breed new insurgents. People in that region were basically seen as backward hicks standing in the way of modernity. Revolutionary General François Joseph Westermann allegedly had the following to say: _"There is no more Vendée, Republican citizens. It died beneath our free sword, with its women and its children. I have just buried it in the swamps and the woods of Savenay. Following the orders that you gave to me, I crushed the children beneath the horses' hooves, massacred the women who, those at least, will bear no more brigands. I do not have a single prisoner to reproach myself with. I have exterminated them all..."_

@@Apk-y1y No, the song "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay is not based on King Louis XVI's speech before his execution by guillotine. The inspiration for the song comes from multiple sources, but it is not specifically tied to the historical events surrounding King Louis XVI. "Viva la Vida" explores themes of power, loss, and redemption, and it is not a direct narrative of any specific historical event or person. While the song's lyrics may resonate with themes of revolution or the rise and fall of leaders, it is a work of art that allows for multiple interpretations. It's important to note that Coldplay's lead vocalist, Chris Martin, has mentioned in interviews that the song was partially inspired by the painting "Liberty Leading the People" by Eugène Delacroix, which depicts the July Revolution of 1830 in France. However, the song's lyrics and overall meaning are not solely tied to this specific historical event or any particular figure.

Thermidorians calomny ! The tehrmidrian set this stuff up... They were really corrupt and had no virtue or any mroals..... They loath the incorruptible because They could buy robepierre he would always refuse their bribe.... In fact Robi had them a on the list we have the name. Thermidorian wrote history has the victor, they said Robi was Tyrant blahblah (Just cuz he fixed bread prices in reality they hated that.) the terror was over blahblah, in reality their never was a real terror under robepierre and revolutionary tribunal was laxist aside for political affairs and infighting among factions. Once thermidorian took power they sent to the guillotine everyoen opposing them Liek Babeuf who tough robepierre was too cruel, but also wanted to abloish teh ownership of the eman of production or at the very least make redistribution of land or lucrative property. He quicly regretted his harsh word on Robespierer clearly Robespierre had been too kind on those parasite that sent him to the guillotine.

Fun fact, American author Thomas Paine (he wrote "Common Sense") was a member of the National Assembly, and he wanted to deport Louis XVI to *_America._* The Jacobins didn't want to deport Louis because they knew wherever in Europe they sent him, he'd inevitably end up in Habsburg territory, and be reinstated once Austria and Prussia inevitably beat France. Paine told them that if they sent him to America, he'd be cut off from his royal relatives and their resources, the Americans could keep a close eye on him to make sure he didn't leave and go back to Europe, and he'd have to learn how to legitimately be a regular citizen. As a major bonus, not killing the king would make the revolution look way better in the eyes of the other European states. Robespierre and Marat basically called him a bleeding heart dumbass and put him in prison.
