16:56 Monopoly was actually based on “The Landlords’ Game” which was an attempt to spread Georgist ideas - namely the idea of a single tax, the land value tax. The idea is that capital and labor are productive elements because they are created by human labor but since land isn’t created, land ownership is basically an artificial monopoly on a location, along with its benefits. Land value tax aims to compensate society for the opportunity cost of exclusive land use, and it incentivizes efficient use of land rather than just idle speculation.

My biggest hope is that this deal will result in significant, structural change at Activision-Blizzard. People tend to think that the PR issues they've dealt with in the past and present can be isolated from the development of their titles, but the truth is that the two exist symbiotically. It would be all too easy for Microsoft to simply throw a tonne of new games on Xbox Game Pass, irrevocably consolidate their position within the gaming landscape, and call it a day, but it is imperative that this not happen. Activision-Blizzard are poised to make a real comeback and regain the trust and goodwill of their fanbase, building up hype for the releases they have in the pipeline. They must not squander this opportunity. Microsoft has proven in the past few years that they are dedicated bot to viewing their products in isolation, but as part of a greater whole, and the work they've done to establish Xbox as a brand that encompasses all aspects of gaming is admirable. Let's hope that this change in management at the highest levels will have positive effects for those at the lower levels.

@@starhammer5247I understand covid put a huge damper on Infinite, but why not just delay it. It's been confirmed that the campaign we got was only 1/3 of what they had originally planned. There's numerous cut enemies, wildlife, biomes, vehicles, weapons, levels, routes on what levels we did get, and way too little game modes. A rushed game leads to an unfinished one. If game companies would start making games for quality again it would solve a lot of the problems they cause themselves. Infinite being a live service game and charging money for what could be unlockable is an excuse to recoup what money they lost and finish the game while having it released at the same time. @@robo6971 except that's the thing, halo infinite wasnt that buggy of a game, and while unfinished its all planned out for the next dlc's. Can you say the same about other AAA developers these past few years? And on the players leaving, yes players are leaving obviously, that's with any game, and it's due to many factor that dont narrow down to 'infinite bad, I angy', in fact halo infinites situation is way better than most AAA games in the past many years since games were actually good, has it recurred you that many people play only for campaign or multiplayer? When one is done or a bit buggy, they wait until expansions and updates, or until the situation to get better, and 343 is getting better. Now that people are done with the campaign they are actively finding and pointing out bugs or issues and 343 is fixing them in record time compared to other game developers. I feel like the reason Bethesda hasn't done much under Microsoft is because Microsoft may be hard delaying all their projects for one the change in leadership really effects a company's current projects and shifts there goals. Microsoft while not perfect releases some quality things the amount of time infinite got and its budget was crazy(lacking in content as it may be). My hope is its a slow burn as Microsoft figures out what they want to do and give the developers room to be creative. As deadlines seem to kill alot of what Activision blizzard and Bethesda want to do, management at those companies wanted money regardless of integrity. Under Microsoft since they just have all the money, can afford to delay and give developers ample time to make games great. If infinite is anything to go by then my hopes are shifting since infinite is a fun game at its core but there wasn't enough content to keep me around. Since Bethesda mainly makes singleplayer games along with blizzard lack of content SHOULDNT be an issue since they cant really patch in new modes. But you never know hoping Microsoft does well with these companies

I own a Playstation and PC and I will happily agree that Sony need to stop being so greedy. When ever I say this to people they jump to Sony's defence and they go on about how much of a rip off gamepass is and so on. They also say how everything on there is games full of micro-transactions. Its funny thou because all Microsofts exclusives don't contain that many micro-transactions other then Halo infinite multiplayer which is free. I don't even bother with PS Now because all the games on there are several years old and I can buy them on eBay for a small price. You never see games on PS Now that are less than 2 years old. There is no join subscription for PS Now and PS Plus like Xbox ultimate. Sony have gotten to comfortable doing nothing and its given Microsoft a chance to shine. I don't blame Microsoft for buying out these companies and making deals to get more new releases on gamepass. I hope this will make Sony improve there PS Now service so I will actually have a reason to pay for it.
@ZombiAstral3 жыл бұрын
@@LG1ikLx I understand your frustrations and will add my two cents. For me the best SONY was the PS2 SONY. The library was diverse, gimmicky and passionate even.. Not flawless, but the company was a lot more pro-consumer. They got smug, and got absolutely rekt by Microsoft, who dominated the PS360 era. Sony finally got off their asses, but the PS3 didn't even start making a profit, till the PS4 was around the corner. I liked all the pro-consumer services though. PS-PLUS just being an extra service. More diverse games, etc. Microsoft completely lost its way under new leadership, and basically handed the lead to the competition. However SONY's more interested in making interactive movies than games nowadays imo. Between the censorship, appalling attitude towards game preservation and backwards compatibility, 100% trash PS PLUS & PS NOW service etc. The company's all but dead to me. I'm just glad I still have my ps2, PS3 and emulators, because there's no way in hell I'll be scalped by companies like Nintendo & Sony for ancient games. Funny enough delusional fanboys used to laugh at Microsoft porting, and preserving their games on PC, but anyone with half brain can see where things are headed now. I care for access to great games, more than exclusivity nowadays, and Microsoft is making the right moves. I won't talk about Nintendo, because I absolutely despise the company, and the way it's operated since the late Gamecube era. I'm expecting SONY and Nintendo to drag their feet with terrible online service, customer service, overpriced retro games, and terrible game preservation for the next five years....By the time they sit up, Microsoft will completely disgrace the competition. And I'm not even a big fan of M$. There's absolutely no excuse for a lot of Sony's PS3 and older libraries to not be available on the PC by now. Same for Nintendo.

I completely agree on your thoughts about Microsoft doing well by their existing IPs and particularly with Rare as an example. Rare hasn't put out games that are 1/10th as popular or notable since Microsoft purchased them and they stopped making games for Nintendo. I can accept that Rare wants to make new franchises and what not, but if that's the case, pass off Banjo Kazooie to another studio or whatever. Don't let the dust settle on your interesting IPs. Banjo is a good example because even if you're not going to make another one of those, where is a platformer from XBOX? Sony obviously kills it with Ratchet, Nintendo kills it with Mario, etc. They have massive gaps in their offerings to consumers, and I hope these acquisitions will help to alleviate that. I am quite skeptical though about how many of these studios will stay open. Like, what happens to Roundhouse under Bethesda? Surely Microsoft consolidates some of them at some point.

I’ve heard that this might be a bad thing. Sony and Nintendo are 100billion dollar companies but Microsoft is a 2 trillion dollar company. Meaning they could buy out every game studio and starve the others with good deals like the game pass. They will hold a monopoly and get rid of the competition which isn’t a good thing as they have no need to better their systems. There are laws against this like the antitrust law to keep big companies from taking over which was used on Microsoft decades ago so they have history on trying to take over their competitors but hopefully they don’t go too far.

New Blood Studios, Devolver, Gears for Breakfast, THQ Nordic, ect are still out there making games still. The indie scene IS the video games industry as it was in the past. Nothing has changed.
