I remember when it came out I was in college and had years to have watched Terminator 2 before then. I didn't think at the time that it was necessary because the ending of Terminator 2 tied up everything in such a neat bow. I didn't go to the movies to see it, but friends saw it and they enjoyed it. I got it when the DVD released, watched it, found it more of a rehash of the second movie and was going to write it off as such. Until, the last section of the movie, when Judgement Day was beginning, and the machines were beginning their takeover. This elevated the movie up from mid to pretty good. Is it as good as Terminator 2? No, but is it a decent addition to the series, thanks to that last section? Yeah, I enjoyed the movie, despite my initial doubts, still revisit it as part of the series when I rewatch rhe movies

Sorry but I'm gonna skip this one and every possible Terminator reaction to come. 1 and 2 are awesome. The others just don't exist. Especially after what Genisys did I didn't even bother with Dark Fate anymore. See you when you're done with the Terminator movies.

Entertaining movie but it undermines the premise of the 1st two movies: no fate but what we make. In this one, judgment day is inevitable. I tend to prefer free will over determinism. The rest of the movies in the franchise are hit-and-miss. None are as good as 1 or 2. But the tv series, the Sarah Connor Chronicles, is quite good.

Unfortunetly and to bad that T-3 is not official timeline of the story. Unfortunetly the official timelines is T-1, T-2 and T-6. T-3 is good, T-4 I didn't liked at all, T-5 I enjoyed it but to much confused on the role.
@MKF30

@otozept Technically, Every Terminator timeline is an official timeline(except TSCC which was it's own thing and confirmed by the showrunner years back not canon) but just different timelines in the movies. James Cameron said in his opinion "he considers Dark Fate the real T3" but that's just him ignoring the other movies but they did happen in their own timelines. Since he had nothing to do with T3 ROTM, Salvation and Genysis he can't really make such a claim, that's just his own head canon. It's literally the same case with Halloween, there's different timelines that happened but all different timelines in that franchise. It's why most prefer the first few and ignore David Gordon Greene's mess killing off Michael which would never happen since he's not even human...well the real Michael anyway not that abomination in Ends.

I always say, T3 is a decent enough Terminator movie (I do think they do smart forward-thinking things with the lore aka the ending etc. but then did basically nothing with it, other than the war still happens) but it's also a really good action romp. Like some of the set pieces are really good - that car chase is top tier stuff on the order of the Matrix highway chase or the Final Destination 2 opening premonition. And Arnold's best performance is in this movie (in this franchise I should say) if you ask me. He's funny, still stoic but also feels like he "knows" things but won't say them really, if that makes sense. The ONLY knock on this movie for me, is the casting of John Connor.

I gave it several chances. I saw it in the cinema, I watched it a couple times more in the following years in the hope my initial impressions were wrong. I never have a problem with people liking things that I don't but for me, this is a bad movie. It's not an OK movie that's let down by a couple of things, it's a bad movie with one or two (at most) cool moments. It's tonally all over the place. It's logically inconsistent. It's poorly acted, terribly written, derivative and vapid. There isn't a single shot in the movie that's artistically inspired, creative or original. It takes the compelling source material and ignores every bit of filmmaking craft that made the first films so brilliant. This movie was like watching a bad covers band play one of your favourite songs.

I like what this movie put forward and its not something you usually saw a lot of especially back in the early 2000's, which is that the heroes face the inevitability of failing and don't actually save the day, but survive and live on to fight tomorrow. Terminator Salvation is also really good and i definitely recommend watching that as it finally shows us the fight between humanity and the machines in the post-apocalypse world.

Definitely agree there. Everything before salvation was prewar and salvation, fully delves into the actual gritty level of the war itself without the time travel aspect, and you can really feel that the technology is more visceral and rugged, rather than the sleek and time travel technology that is to come very soon after. I would have to say as a result, Terminator Salvation is my second all-time favourite terminator movie.

T3 is a good sequel to two masterpieces... which is a tough spot to compare. It delivers huge, well done action setpieces, Arnold is in top form as a more "drill sargeant" with a PhD instead of trying to be human(no time for that nonsense), Stahl gives John a gravitas as a young man lost in an uncertain future without purpose and the heavy burden of the world. Claire Danes is solid as the outsider(the audience), and Loken played a cool terminatrix with her Swiss army knife arsenal. Yes it's more humorous, but that's what gives it more individual personality as a sequel. The ending of course is AWESOME, and undoes the time travel flaw in T2. Judgment Day has to happen for John to exist and Skynet to be defeated. If the future was prevented, then John woulda disappeared and none of the events of T1 woulda happened resulting in Sarah going back to being an ordinary waitress. Overall to me, this shoulda ended the franchise as a trilogy. It ends with John facing his destiny and the future unfolding to eventual victory of Skynet. That outcome was always in place. PS, John was not a drug addict. He was injured and needed pain medicine since he can't go to a hospital being "off the grid".

In the original cinematic ending for T2, I always interpreted Sarah talking about how humanity could learn to be better as something that was to come after judgement day. I hated the alternate ending for T2 where they stop judgement day (and the older I get, the more I feel like we should ban director's cuts - just let it be and move on to creating something else please!)

The late Earl Boen (Dr. Silberman) was in BOTH The Terminator and Terminator 2. He understandably became a fan favourite after the first two because he was basically just a rational 20th-century man who can't quite grasp WTF starts happening around him (and which he somehow survives). In cinemas at the time, lots of people cheered when they heard his voice in T3 even before they saw his face. Boen and Arnold are the only people in all three of the first Terminator films.

Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, James Cameron,John McTiernan, Michael Bay, Ang Lee, Darren Aronofsky, and Danny Boyle were considered for directing. Cameron turned it down as he was too busy working on the script for the epic Sci Fi Action Adventure AVATAR. Kristanna Loken had to spend one night naked in Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive, which was closed for filming of her arrival scene, knowing there is no way out of it, but thankfully, it was the last day of shooting. Loken said that "it was very empowering, and as an actor, you have to be daring as possible." Kristanna Loken packed on 15 lbs of muscle for role. Arnold Schwarzenegger had to do a 3 month regiment to build muscle mass for his role as the Terminator, at least 45-50 lbs of muscle! The film was a box office success, making $433 million dollars against a $167 million dollar budget.

It's ironic that Hayley/Haylee/Haylie asked what the explosion budget was for this film because Arnold himself put up a million (or was it 3 million?) for that sequence with the fire truck and all the crazy carnage and destruction. EDIT: it was $1.4 million, but he was also being paid ~$30 million for the movie, so he basically just took a little less pay to ensure the sequence was full of crazy action :D

So yeah the events of this film exist in a timeline where 1997's Judgment Day never happened due to the events of the last film. But as we see from the ending of this film Judgement Day still happens just in 2004. This creates an alternate Future War to the one Kyle Reese came from in Terminator 1 with the delay changing events and characters meeting in different ways. The next film Terminator: Salvation takes place in this new Future War with this being the final film in this new timeline. Salvation was meant to start a trilogy but it never happened. Kyle Reese's Timeline: (The *Possible Future* Kyle Reese came from) Terminator 1 - *1984* John Connor is Born - *28 February 1985* Judgement Day - *1997* Kyle Reese is Born - *2003* Future War & Skynet is Defeated - *2029* Kyle Reese from 2029 is sent back in time to 1984 with the mission to protect Sarah Connor - *1984* -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Movie Timeline: (Timeline of the films) Terminator 1 - *1984* John Connor is Born - *28 February 1985* Terminator 2 - *1995* Sarah Connor dies of leukemia - *1997* Kyle Reese is Born - *2003/2004* Terminator 3 - *2004* Judgement Day - *2004* John Connor Killed by a T-850 - *July 4, 2032* T-X send back to 2004 with the mission to kill John Connor's future lieutenants - *2030s* The Resistance re-programs the T-850 sending him back to 2004 to protect John Connor and Katherine Brewster - *2033/2034*

I like this movie and I LOVE the ending. Love the melancholy music as they realize what's happening and the bombs fall. There was hope right up until the end but then they had to accept the reality that they lost. John had to take on the destiny that he'd been told his whole life.

I can appreciate movies 4 to 6 for opening up the Terminator cineverse. We finally got see the actual war vs the machines in Salvation, Genisys and Dark Fate showed alternate and intersecting timelines, something which Kyle Reese said in the first movie ("one possible future") but was never really touched on until the last 2 films. I would love to see a Terminator movie that dedicates the whole plot to the human race finally defeating Skynet in the future, even if the war is technically going to be won in the past.

I'm really happy that both of you girls are going to watch Terminator: Salvation. It takes the storyline to another level. 👍😊 It's so strange that the naysayers of the Terminator sequels are never satisfied with voicing their opinions. They vehemently don't want anyone else to watch them which is also hypocritical since they have seen the sequels that they now despise. Their irrational reasoning comes down to them just not being able to tolerate the idea that other people might enjoy watching something they don't like. 🤔

My theory is: T2 was Sknet's first use of the time machine, an advanced protope to kill John Connor. Upon reealizing that a T100 had been sent back in time and stopped it, this movie was Skynet's 2nd time attacks, at John's lieutenants, and with an anti-terminator terminator just in case the resistance sent its own terminator back again. However with the report of Sarah Connor's grave Skynet formulates its last ditch effort and grabs a standard model T800 and sends it back on a last ditch effort to kill John before he was conceived.

I think the problem people have with the terminator franchise after T2 is that every movie after that is a different iteration of the same story, each one retconing what came before trying to recapture the lighting in a bottle that the first two were and never really succeeding.

I always liked this movie, I kept recommending you see it because it answered the nagging question that if they stopped skynet, then how could terminators keep coming back? Kyle even said in the first movie, they had won, skynet was done, this movie was made to answer that, they never could stop an event that already happened in the future, the way the female terminater brought the skynet program back with her and infected the internet fixed the destruction of cyberdyne and the skynet proto type. Good for you for taking a chance on watching it and deciding for yourself!

I say, “You’ve come this far, might as well go all the way, now.” I don’t strictly see this one and ‘Salvation’ as direct sequels to the first two but as just tales of the ‘Terminator’ Universe. ‘Genisys’ really destroys the timeline but is a fun watch. ‘Dark Fate’ is supposed to be a direct sequel to ‘Judgement Day’ because James Cameron is a part of the team again. But that means you HAVE to check out the television series ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ as well!

Terminator Salvation is perhaps the most decent of all the sequels of the saga, because it leaves aside the repetitive story of persecution in the present, to give way to tell how is the future and the war of humans against machines, plus John Connor is played masterfully by Christian Bale, the best John Connor of all for me.

If you guys wanted to know why TX was killing those teenagers at the beginning of the movie, it’s because all 8 of those priority targets she identified were John Connor’s future lieutenants and members of his Resistance network during the future war with Skynet. Because in this movie John was off the radar completely and Skynet could not triangulate his position, the TX had a directive to eliminate alternative threats instead (his future lieutenants), thereby undermining his role as the future leader of the Resistance.

Late comment. With all the success that T2 had ('an understatement), the fans still wanted T3. Even after the ending (sad as it was), people were curious to see how the future could play out. It was originally planned as an prequel about the final assault on SKYNET, before Reese was sent back through time after the original T-800 and John knew that Reese was his father retroactively. Arnold was age 55 at the time of filming, earned $25 mil as the biggest check paid to an movie star ever and reshaped his body with the classic workouts that made him an bodybuilding legend. This was his last film he would make before becoming governor of California including a cameo in The Rundown (2003). A decade later; he returned in The Last Stand and Escape Plan (2013), Sabotage (2014) and Maggie (2015).

Also, following up my pro-Salvation comment: that's the film that doesn't just follow the formula, it actually does something new and different - and again, the whole post-apocalyptic theme and the gritty realistic clunky machines is just chef's kiss. It is the biggest departure from the franchise, because the 5th and 6th ones pretty much go back to the same formula. Salvation is dope as its own film that just explores a whole other look at the Terminator storyline. I don't know why it gets so much hate. It's definitely more of an action-drama than an action-comedy like T3 is. It's bleak, if I had to sum it up.
