Thank you ! This has changed the way i look on my relationships ! Many seems to forget what this video is about and go around in a haze and forget to appreciate the relationships the got in life! They forgot how important the simple thing: Spending time with friend/family, is! When nothing insane wild extreme expensive lifechanging party or arrangement happens its not good enough - A walk in the woods, going to take a swim, make food together and all those simpel things are long forgotten and how important they are! I feel like making this my small religion and try to convince people around me how important this it! Deep respect for this study also ! Again thank you !

There are so many people out there who were reared up in toxic family , some of them don't even have siblings or friends. No one to count on . I appreciate the content. Not everyone has fulfilling relationship with their better halves. There are people who have seen the demise of the people(relatives) they could count on. I would love to have a content on topic " How to have healthy mind and body when you have no one to count on". Most people all over the world need to also know ways of leading a healthy life while being alone.

Friendships count! Build those friendships. Create those bonds. Make the family you never had. I know this from experience.
@jacobmcallister5424Күн бұрын
No one needs to be alone…but each must personally do the emotional work required if they want/expect to have and maintain close relationships with others. Start purposely reaching out to others instead of waiting and expecting others to first reach out to you-be the person that someone else can count on to be there for them. If this isn’t possible because the people currently in your life are overly toxic and narcissistic-look elsewhere-even if it requires you to move on and away from current family and acquaintances. There are millions of people who are in need of receiving the positive emotional support you could provide to them and in return could personally receive back from them! Accept personal responsibility for the state of your life and decide NOW to make the personal changes required in your own personal life that are needed to sustain close relationships with others-because It’s obvious your current CHOICE to be alone isn’t making you happy or healthy!

I see the young ones reacting to this talk with great doubt. I'm only 38 but I think it's amazing a long and exhaustive study on what makes one truly happy came up with a result our elders have been telling us for years. Thank you for this. I'm grateful the researchers shared their findings in a broad platfom like TedTalks so many can benefit from it. I also used to doubt my elders since now at 38, I'm perfectly satisfied alone. But yeah, watching those who grow old with people they're truly connected with, they are definitely happier and more content than those who were stingy with their affections. I'm gonna take the lessons from this study to heart :)

Happiness is a complex combination of situations. But I think the basic ingredient is the good quality relationship. It is a fact though that there are people who should be clever in their relationships with their families. It is also a fact that there are people who are surrounded by not so nice people. It is as well a fact that there are people, who didn't learn how to make good relationships to others and to themselves. But I think the good thing is, humans have the ability to do actions. There are psychologists, communities and talks like this here that could help. There are still nice people out there. There are countries, who's culture focus on love, friendship and harmonious good relationships. If there's a will, there's a way. Thanks for this study. This is an inspiration for me. More power!

I am proud of the fact that I was able to get away from the American Male created by greed. I have learned to honor n trust my heart & Intuition. My relationships that soothe my soul are deep, honest, intuitive, healing, grounded and deep. Our culture w men is in a MAJOR shift for the average American woman. I wonder what you would have to say to that scenario.

What if you've been disfunctional since you were a kid? I've tried to get involved deeply with other, but it always goes wrong. Maybe they should do a study on how to have meaningful relationships, I guess. Nice video, though.

Many of us now crave material goods, but they shouldn't be our main focus. While luxury purchases, money, and fame can bring temporary joy, it is shallow and fleeting compared to the happiness we derive from our connections with friends and family. They are what truly matters to us. In essence, our innate desire to cultivate and nurture relationships is fundamental to our existence, and only through meaningful connections can we truly thrive as individuals.

The whole idea of this video is that : ok ... so if this many people are happy this way, then you could be happy this way too. i would say that you would have to actually study the whole human race to finally give a certain result. It kinda seems to me that there could be as many ways of being happy as the number of humans that have ever existed. happiness is the perception of our minds from the world around us. But yet again, i would have to say that no emotion is as strong as love. Not necessarily love between a couple, but for your child or your work or anything... . And up to this moment of my life (short as it is which is 21) i have not found any other thing worthy of living for.

reading comments of why only men, and why lack of women, color.......75 years ago, there was segregation... there was open sexism and racism. Let us acknowledge the progress we have made as a country. It is not yet complete and we face these age old challenges that is more buried in our society than ever before. Yet, our openness has never been at this level and the pace of change is accelerating. Let us look to the future, take this long study as an opportunity to hear and know about a generation of men from privilege and from those who were not. Hear the story and most importantly think about what has been shared. Relationships matter.

the human being tends to seek pleasure, interpersonal relationships provide enough serotonin which implies it, happiness is not a feeling and is found in everything we do and experience but our body increasingly wants more of this hormone which implies that some actions lose their meaning, what we call boring and silly. The human being as a social construct, has sought pleasure in everything we experience as fast food or video games, we are addicted to pleasure and increasingly seek more, this means that future generations will live more sad and depressed by overflow of the hormone of pleasure.

If you are or can crack it in enjoying being by yourself and doing things you like you can always be happy .. one doesnt need to be social or anti social for that . At base, we are social beings. It is through relationships with others that we develop a relationship with self, involving self awareness and self love. In our relationship with others we discover what we like and don't like, and our virtues such as patience, integrity, kindness, etc. There is really no relationship with self outside of relationship with others. that's the core of our humanness!

While I understand and agree with this talk, considering how important and valuable relationships are with family, partners, and friends, I do disagree that money and wealth not being considered factors of a good life. These are certainly still important factors for a good life because being poor and unable to support loved ones, to provide, and to protect their financial safety, these things affect our happiness and comfort. I am surrounded by loving people-my family and my partner. But despite that, we all are under so much stress due to income and money. Our general happiness is taking an impact, showing that a good life is not entirely about our relationships. If we are all sinking in the same boat, then we can't say that being together was enough. But having a nice boat alone isn't going to make anyone happy either. If you were to describe what a "good life" truly is, it should be described as stability and relationships. Both, not separate.
