My best business ideas have come from the break activity 'going to a country you've never been before' so I'd definitely say that for me it has had a direct impact on my productivity

My psychologist said to me (since I have a very high natural output of effort) that the amount of productivity you get at either end of the scale, call it 1-10, is relatively small compared to the production you get at the middle. Almost like a bell shaped curve. I find that since I am a naturally high functioning person, I have learned to give myself some leniency in this regard. It does more harm than good in my opinion to over-do it. If you can give yourself the time and space to do things when you want (while maintaining a reasonable amount of discipline of course), then you will naturally get quite a lot done, and actually want to do what you are doing, and therefore get the most out of it. This applies particularly well in my case for studying. Your videos have been an excellent resource for me to tidy up my personal finances as well as starting to foster better life habits. Thanks a bunch :)

Funny enough, I was having a conversation with "myself" today about why I felt more productive when I stopped playing videogames for a couple of months. I was motivated to read more and being productive. You're video seems to hit it on the nail. Thanks Erik!

Great video! During my years as a teenager, I used to spend countless hours on video games. There was little motivation or interest in the outside world. The moment I got naturally interested in one topic and then in another, the timesink part of my life reduced (and quickly). The motivation started to build up even more as the first signs of progress appeared. Now I try to avoid any topics that naturally are of no interest to me. I found natural interest as the only long-term motivator. That's one of the reason that I am not doing things for money more than I have to. I just cannot do something I am content with or receive pleasure from doing it, if it is outside of my interest zone. Whenever there is a purely outcome-oriented endeavor such as making money or publishing a new web project, I feel like "yeah, but I cannot do it for long, if there is nothing interesting in it". Maybe that's the primary reason for why we suck at work/project if we don't get the interest to move us up the ladder described in a video.

Great video... I find myself getting frustrated at myself for having a hard time getting out of the Break/Timesink stage... I personally do short bursts of really high productivity, take breaks, come back and wrap up over time... But I do not love this method, and it causes me a lot of anxiety because the work is not really done until the last minute or close too, but it is generally good quality. I also feel like procrastination is a big contributor.. And something that is very hard to get over.

I am also more productive, when I don't play, but I also have to turn off youtube and twitch. When I'm at my village, where there is no internet and tv is limited, I usually read a lot of pages. I also find time for work in the garden and at the end of the day, I don't feel like I wasted my day, like when I have played video games or watched videos. Can you elaborate how you got off games and other distractions, while they are easily accessible?

Hello there! A simple thanks would be an understatement for thy contributions to the rookies and the confused. Could thee please throw clarity on the difference between exercising under the SUPPORT Category & powerlifting under the BREAK Category. Doesn't powerlifting qualify as an exercise 😐
@TheSwedishInvestor3 жыл бұрын
Hey Arulius Savio! Cheers for the support. It's a good question and I realize that I should have clarified that more in the video. Exercising to a certain degree, no matter the type of exercise, although some cardio is arguably more efficient than other types, will bring health benefits that will allow you to keep up your primary grind in the long run. However, this effect is tapering off quite rapidly with the amount of exercise. If you try to compete in a sport at a higher level, sure, it will give you the health effects, but it will also steal from your energy levels and your focus. There aren't many successful businesspeople who are also really competitive in a sport (in case they didn't build a business based on their sport, of course). Hope that makes sense and that it helps.

I think some people misunderstood the "leverage" part... it isn't about just hiring other people. If I buy a better machine for farming or improve my workflow at a factory, these are all "leverage." I get more for the same effort/time.

@pudicio3 жыл бұрын
I like the model on the whole. But the break section is definitely not correct as far as I'm concerned. I am building a startup and breaks really help me relax, recharge and some of my best ideas come when I am truly free on holiday. When you really push your productivity in places where your comfort zone is expanding the stress will really build and force you to relax and take breaks at some point.
@TheSwedishInvestor3 жыл бұрын
Hey pudicio! It's a good point about indirect consequences of being involved in these types of activities. Hard to measure, but still important. My brother says that he judges "breaks" by the amount of inspiration he expects to get out of them, which I think makes sense and is aligned with what you are pointing towards here. I often get a lot of inspiration and ideas when I'm solely focusing on one thing, such as new content for videos or doing research on stocks. My "epiphanies" often come when I'm really deep into these things, but I guess we all work a little bit differently. Cheers!

Fitness and sport is more certainly support not break.
@TheSwedishInvestor3 жыл бұрын
Hey 001001! I do agree, it was a little bit strange to put it there. If you are trying to be as productive as possible as an entrepreneur, I think some exercise is necessary, but if you are trying to do it at a competitive level (the sport), I think that added effort won't give you much as an entrepreneur. So I had mixed feeling about putting it under the "Break" category as I also listed it under "Support".
