What is frustrating to me is the potential these girls had, even in XUM. "DDALALA" did way better financially than I expected and really did show new hope for the girls and company 😔

To me, it sounds more like Xum was disbanded due to how negative the racial comment/DNA video scandal as something like that is a death sentence to smaller groups from small/new companies. If a new group from one of the bigger labels made the same comment, the group would more likely to bounce back as a larger company can afford the damage control on such a scandal.

This just once again shows us, that if you start to stan a group from a small entertainment and members start to leave just to be replaced - run. The group will not work out. They will probably lose more members, put more members in and then make a sub-unit group that is also bound to fail. I never saw such a group have success in my 12 years as a kpop stan.

These smaller companies really need to make more effort to retain their members, if your group loses a member after the first debut that’s the first nail in the coffin for a group as far as I’m concerned. They should have started out with less members (three) in the first place, it’s less cost and it means that they can focus on treating those few members better so that they won’t leave.

Neon Punch was one of my favorite groups, loved their discography a lot. Moonlight and Tic Toc are probably two of my favorite songs of this decade in k-pop. Their disbandment saddened me a bit (because I kinda hoped the two girls would return from their hiatus but.... they didn't), but at least I was happy to hear that some of them will redebut in XUM. And now... this. In spite of the controversies relating to XUM, the fact that A100 decided to just delete everything relating to the group to make place for a new one didn't really sit right to me. The fact that they had to confirm their disbandment via a KZbin comment just like the one we all write below a video when asked about what's going on, again, doesn't sit right to me. It felt weird, it felt like a "oh shit, we forgot to announce XUM disbanding, didn't we?" kinda moment when they uploaded the Hi-L content and deleted the ones related to XUM. Feels a bit worse knowing that DDALALA did a little bit better on the financial side and that XUM could've went somewhere if A100 capitalized enough on that slight advantage. I wish Hi-L the best and hope that the girls are getting better treatment than Neon Punch/XUM did. I also hope A100 (or Kpop Live Entertainment apparently according to the teaser) sort their shit together too because in that rhythm they'll lose their groups far too often and that won't benefit them on the long run.

Alright, Theory Time: 1. When NP (neon puch) second release didn’t do so well + the financial impact of COVID; it’s very possible the company decided to cut their losses and try again with a new group. 2. The money for XUM debut came from the Makestar campaign funds. That’s why they were so shady about it. 3. After the racism controversy, the company decided to go for an entire rebrand to distance themselves from the whole thing instead of actually recognizing their mistakes and educating their idols. 4. Since it’s clear that this company gives up the moment things aren’t all sunny, I’m genuinely worried that the same mistakes are going to be made with this new group.

Hard to see comments about people liking XUM after that controversy. 🤭 well ig we do tend to normalize bad things. Edit: I don't think it was right for the group to disband. It's not hard to educate yourself and move on, even if people constantly bring it up. Xum had talented, hard working, dedicated, loyal and pretty girls. It seems the problem was the company rather than the girls themselves, because it's clear the company didn't think loyalty and dedication went both ways.

I used to be obsessed with Neonpunch's music, but I stopped paying attention to them after XUM debuted (because I hate the music they released as XUM), I feel like the company knows how toxic cancel culture has become and that they know that once you've said one racist thing, people will forever see you as racist even if you "educate yourself" and feel genuine regret for what you said
@thedoctor1350
@thedoctor1350 3 жыл бұрын
It’s not “cancel culture”. Just say you think black people should shut up. They made racist remarks about black people and you call blacks people being upset about it “cancel culture”??? @@thedoctor1350 1) i dont think black people should shut up, keep on educating the ignorant and calling out the racists 2) what I meant with cancel culture is that if someone said something racist when they were 10, and are now grown adults who have grown and learned and like I said feel genuine regret for what they said, people will still cancel them every month for that one racist thing and people will still call them racist
@rinrin9236
@rinrin9236 3 жыл бұрын
@@vstopbiaswreckingme7194 your second point doesn't even have a relation to the XUM situation. Were those members 10 years old when they made those remarks? Because they looked like young adults to me. The "problem" isn't cancel culture, it's stan culture not allowing people to be held accountable, and then feeling entitled to forgiveness after making disingenuous apologies. The majority of kpop idols who have done racist things were over 18 at the time of those events, but kpop stans like you always find a way to infantilise and excuse their behaviour as "ignorance" from being East Asian. And you don't know your idols. Just because idols "apologise" for discriminatory comments, it doesn't suddenly make them not racist. All they learn is to hide those behaviours to not get cancelled again. I doubt there's much motivation for them to change their mindsets when they've had those views for their entire lives and they don't know much, if any, people of different ethnicities. But please keep finding ways to excuse your faves discriminatory behaviour. I'm sure that makes you feel much better supporting those kinds of people.

After such big mistake it is not too weird that - out of shame - they decided to part ways with an uneducated group. But its still bad of the company to remotely not even screen anything before they upload it. You'd think that after so many idols being cancelled these days over saying ignorant things that they'd think twice. I genuinely hope the best for the new group and I just hope the company doesn't mess up again. I think it is for the better to move on. People will forget about Neon Punch/Xum really fast. Trust me.

The comment about the loud voice, wouldn’t have come across so negatively if it had just be rephrased a bit better. For example, I personally have noticed that african american female singers often have a strong and clear singing voice. To me this isn’t a negative point, And i find that to be really pretty when i’m listening to someone sing. Although it’s difficult because of translation, it’s possible she didn’t make that comment to seem negative but rather as a positive point. Still there’s no denying that, if it’s worded in a similar way in korean (meaning a very direct translation) that would most definitely seem offensive to many people. I feel abit bad for a lot of people in this situation, such as these idols. In the west, culture and ethnicity are so incredibly diverse that almost everyone grows up around some sort of diversity, meaning people are not only more accepting (generally speaking) but they also just know what things are okay to say and what isn’t. It seems like in other parts of the world, Diversity is focused pretty much exclusively in capital cities and other businesses focused areas (Like Tokyo in Japan). Foreigners might not get any looks or second thoughts in those areas but the more rural areas with less tourism tend to be more, i guess rude, about seeing someone not from their own country. While it doesn’t excuse the comments made in their dna video, when you really think about it, these girls are likely just a victim of circumstance. They probably didnt know any better because they’ve never personally known many cultures or ethnicities outside of their own, which is really unfortunate and makes me quite sad because they’re missing out on a lot of things in our world.

Compared to other companies in these videos they don't seem like the worst company. I think they made a few genuine mistakes rather then seeming intentionally malicious like some of the companies that really could care less about the members. I guess they thought it was a lost cause after the racist controversy.

Holy shit, that DNA video was so cringe-inducing. I'm surprised that their CEO/rep acknowledged it so quickly tho. The end statement about "we're against racism" was so eye-roll worthy, but everything else seems to be a decent apology.

As soon as the second Hi-L video was dropped on XUM's KZbin channel, and I realized that they changed the channel for the new group, I promptly unsubscribed. I think it's disgusting from the company to use XUM's channel for the new group.

With all due respect. I have never copied another creators video. I announced almost a week ago that I was working on this subject since this is something that just happened (xum's disbandment + Hi-L being announced). I am only 1 person behind this channel and its humanly impossible for me to research, write, and edit a video in 1 day.
