30:07 Cimo’s reasoning here for targeting Cerato with Book of Moon is off. Cerato was not special summoned by an Evoltile monster, it was summoned by Evolsaur Vulcano and so its effects were not on during this time (so it cannot get MBT another card through its effect). On top of that, the Cerato cannot even declare an attack because Vulcano says “it cannot declare an attack”. It seems both players were unaware of this however, because usually MBT speaks out in situations like this even if it is helping his opponent. Also, Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon is pre-errata during this time period, so Cimo could have taken advantage of this in game 2.

Honestly, I think the evol archetype could have been fixed by just giving all the evolsaurs a second effect allowing you to discard them to add an evoltile to your hand. Then, there would be no drawing the wrong half of your deck.

Evolsaurs work better as a concept than a deck. Even for 2012 standards, waiting for evolution to get from reptiles to dinosaurs to dragons left this archetype with a Darwin Award. Having both reptiles & Dinos in the main deck makes it bloated. This lead to Dolkaa & Laggia being generic extra deck tools for all Dinosaur Decks to come. Dinosaurs are a type which runs on it's generic support more than archetypes and it has been that way for a decade. It's a shame because I am fan of evolution as a gimmick for archetypes, be it LV Monsters, Rank-Up Magic or just anime-style stronger higher level forms for Monsters.

It would've worked a lot better if the Main deck was all Evoltiles and the Extra Deck monsters were all Evolsaurs. Then they can be a decent Synchro or Xyz deck, maintain the evolution theme, and there's room for a archetype-specific Evolution Pill spell that works sort of like Aliester's "Book of the Law". Plus then maybe Reptiles would get a little love.

Disaster Dragon is very similar to a pet deck I had in the day- except I was also playing Dark Paladin with the fusion materials for it. Dark Paladin was my favorite card and I loved playing it, and it did well against chaos dragons when people played poorly. 3900+ attack that negated spells did work.

I took Disaster Dragons to locals until Evols came out 😂 Later waves of Evol support were actually quite good: Evo-Diversity helped make sure you got your Tiles early and Evo-Singularity is just a crazy card. Also with the whole Koa'ki Meiru maintenance cost thing. In adamancipator on master duel, if you control Guardian and a Block Dragon, and you don’t have a rock in hand to reveal, it just passes over it entirely. Because Guardian can’t be destroyed by card effects while Block is on field. Not sure if that impacts Drago in that situation with chain tho.
