Not to give anything away but usually if someone isn't at camp at all, chance is that they're part of a story quest and thus unavailable until you trigger said quest. And the grey dots on the minimap titled Companion are gifts from people for bringing them stuff that they asked for. They tend to show up at some point at Arthur's quarters after completion.

For any later hunting episodes, there's a life saving post on the RDR subreddit called "A Guide to hunting - Complete with every animal location", while I was completing the camp and satchel upgrades I referenced it endlessly - of course, feel free to do your own scouting for animals, but if you ever get desperate it's extremely helpful

Taking your time for hunting and side quests is so much fun. It’s just a different pace and honestly I feel like people who play the game for the first time and just rush the main missions miss out on a huge portion of storylines and gameplay. It’s the kind of game that makes you appreciate it more because of the expansive world like you mentioned. Still loving the playthrough by the way. Something I also enjoy about RDR2 is the smaller conversations and stories with everyone. In camp, you learn so much about people by listening to them and reading the letters and things they have spread around. That conversation you heard where John was making fun of Bill to Charles, he said something about how the only person Bill likes around camp is Kieran. This isn’t a spoiler to any storyline because it’s never directly discussed, but there’s speculation that Bill is closeted, and it accounts for his need to be overly macho and perhaps his anger problems. Apparently, people around camp kind of know about him because at the very beginning of the game even Micah makes a comment about not wanting to bunk with Bill. You also find a letter laying around camp about how Bill got kicked out of the army for “deviancy”. And there’s a cut scene that happens at camp where Bill desperately tries to get Kieran to hang out with him in almost a begging way but Kieran is so high strung and nervous about how everyone hates him around camp, he leaves and won’t hang out with him. It’s just crazy the amount of small moments that pile up that give character background even if nothing is ever directly discussed. Very similar to Molly and how all of her small moments give a little insight into what’s going on with her if you can catch all of her camp cutscenes. It makes you want to play the game again and spend time exploring and talking to people more to see what you missed.

I'm new to the game too! Cowboy John got me interested and HOOKED! I do EVERYTHING side related first, then throw in a dash of main story here and there😂. I'm only rushing Chapter 4 a bit more, simply because, like John, I don't like this camp area. I also get a heavy bounty every single time I set foot, or hoof, in Saint Denis. I've actually started leaving my horse Herky on the outskirts of town, or leading him through town on his lead to try and avoid causing a fight😂. Anyway, no spoilers, I have 0 idea how this plays out. Although, I just had an "encounter" with Dutch in the swamps (iykyk) and if I had the choice, I'd have left him there. Dude gives me the "betraying creeps" vibe.

I just binged all you red dead 2 series. probably the best I've seen on KZbin! I really like your playstyle. I am pretty sure someone already mentioned it, but the Buck trinket will only apply when you skin the animal. For example, let's say you see a 3 star deer and you kill it badly, making it a 2 star deer. When you skin it, you will have a chance to still get a perfect deer pelt. It actually happened in this episode when you killed the squirrel. You still got a perfect squirrel carcasse even tho it became a 2 star squirrel when you killed it. Keep up the good work! Can't wait for episode 21!!!

LMAOOOO I did NOT expect that little twist in the sheriff's office. Classic John. Love that "dangerous foreigner" were the only words John needed to hear to be like "yeah we're not having NONE of that" lol good on ya. I hadn't heard that mountain lion story before, that sounds DEEPLY terrifying (although yeah maybe it was just watching out of curiosity? and at least it ended well). I liked eavesdropping on that Micah vs Reverend convo in camp, it made me appreciate Reverend's character development and feel bad for him, it felt like Micah was a player spamming Antagonize on the poor dude. John getting those Perfect Raccoon Pelt and Perfect Wolf Pelt were so earned 😭 and that moment at the end where John finally got it!!! so worth it to end it on that note, love seeing all those little satchels made and checked off! Now Arthur can really load up on everything! :D Favorite funny moments this episode: John doing a double take thinking Pearson was randomly talking Spanish when Javier was singing, 3:32:23 LOVE the cheery greetings followed immediately offscreen "oh shit!!" to the massacre, John innocently rubbing his chin on where to find the Legendary Wolf cutting to him silently deciding to immediately murder a random rude man who-knows how much later lmao, and the mysterious case of the snoring at camp (I had a moment hoping camp was secretly haunted too 😭)

I remember once hiking in Palo Duro Canyon with my husband (fiancé at the time), when my sister stepped right over a rattlesnake 😮 we didn’t even notice it until it started rattling. My brother-in-law grabbed her and pulled her away from it… it was right next to the trail. Beautiful snake, I’ve seen quite a few of them living out in the countryside. I’ve also heard mountain lions at night camping out there. We had one come into town from the Canyon. She was spotted over by the Junior High School! I can only imagine what you encountered had to have been one, perhaps a young one, or a bobcat.

That trinket you have for a better chance quality of animal's pelt, you only know if it's working after you skinned the animals. All those 2 stars wolves you've killed are the quality of the animal itself, not the pelts. So, you might have gotten the perfect wolf's pelts earlier🤞

From my experience it doesn’t increase an already 2 star to 3 but it will save a 3 star that you demoted to 2 by killing it badly by bumping it up to 3 again when you skin. But I’m not 100% sure this how it works tbh

I know this is probably far too late, but Arthur sketches animals that you observe, when you aim at, binoc at, or do any sort of first person zoom in on an animal, when it says "Journal updated" it's him noting that the animal can be found in that area, but he doesn't draw *every* animal that is possible to see in a given area, I think it's just whatever you've seen first. As you may have guessed, animals can spawn in multiple parts of the map and seem to kind of work on a spawn table as you cause an area to load in (I'm not sure exactly how big these zones are but i have found a few loading boundaries) You aren't guaranteed to find the animal you've seen before but as you move around, or move away far enough to despawn and repopulate an area, the wildlife you want may spawn in. These are just my observations from playing and it's most noticeable with larger animals, where sometimes you'll get buffalo herds or wild horses in certain open areas.

you should skin most 2 star animals because the buck trinket gives you a good chance of it being a perfect skin after you skin them. for the non-large skins/pelts you can store infinite on your horse, so no reason not too.

So talking about energy drinks, back some time ago, around a year or close to two, I literally spent months drinking Monters at least once every day, mostly because of my job since I needed a lot of energy to keep it going. Towards the end of that year, I did a general health exam just to be sure if I had been affected by those energy drinks, but the results were that, apparently, I was one of the healthiest people the doctor had ever seen (even though I drank Monsters every day and ate barely any healthy food) Genes are quite something, but since then I started eating healthy, let's not be negligent!

Love all the RDR2 content! Just fun fact- leopards and jaguars are separate, not North American big cat species often mistaken for each other because of their similar patterns. In North America, we have multiple names for the same big cat, mountain lion, puma, cougar and panther. All these refer to the same species Aurther is hunting. Stupidly, the term 'black panther' is used when referring to a black leopard or jaguar, not the North American big cat.

Cougar and panther in this game are different species, and they both stalk and attack you. For most cases, you don't need to use bait because they'll just come to you, but you can still bait them with some strategy.

There's still a fun side mission in Van Horn that you can do. Idk why it's not on your map anymore, because it's not a missable one. Also, you can't fully complete the Dinosaur bones quest until post-game. It's a fun little conclusion, but I wouldn't go out of your way for it until you complete the main game.

Someone might have mentioned this last episode already but: Up in the mountains there IS a cave you can check out. I'm not sure which one exactly. I thought the thing you found looked about right, but maybe it's a different one. Exploring off road is always worth it even when it feels like there likely is nothing. Sadly that's the case in so many other games. But here you will find something interesting everywhere and I love it 😍

For the next hunting episode, grab yourself a secondary horse, like steal one or break a wild one, and bond to level 1 so they'll listen to your commands. This way you can carry two large pelts or carcasses which makes large game hunting at least a little easier! Sometimes you can even have 3 horses, if you bond two other horses to level 1 and command them to follow you, even when only one is your actual secondary horse, the other will still follow (but will despawn if you go too far, hence, have them follow).

I actually recently confessed to my doctor that I couldn't get out of bed without an energy drink and was very timid cuz I thought it was super bad for you to even have one, so I was shocked when they were cool with it. I realized I don't know that much about them, so I'm looking forward to your video on them! Also the clinking you heard was just your horse's bridle. XD Edit: My big animal encounters were a bison, a lion, and a jaguar. Luckily there was always a barrier but they were scary af. The bison marked our car (we were waiting for them to cross) by scraping his horn all along it. It felt like maybe a bit of a warning, hahaha. The lion was at a sanctuary, and I was very small so this lioness was actively stalking me wanting to eat me. My mom got uncomfortable since the fencing wasn't the greatest and moved us back inside where I got to bottle feed a baby snow leopard. The jaguar was when I brought my service dog to the zoo, and I was very close to the glass, turned to say "I guess it's not coming out today" when I heard this massive THUD behind me. The jaguar had been stalking my dog (a Shiba so fairly small) and slammed itself against the glass pouncing. To my dog's credit she stood in front of me protectively and growled, but it was super scary, lol.
