@341Special First of all, the sound is massively determined by the actual snare, so "the main hardware" if you will. I am not sure about the snare, but it sounds like wood to me. Cranking the reso and batter head is a factor, yes, but there is still much more to it. Also you might have to use very few wires on your snare wires and crank the wires, too. Then, he is hitting only rimshots while in addition to that the rim he uses on his snare matters, which might be made of steel by the looks. Last but surely not least, this is very well mixed with compression and gating which shortens and tightens the hits massively. Hope that helps, maybe someone else can add some remaining "mystery ingredient". Edit: Of course the heads also matter. Clear Ambassadors as reso heads and probably P77 on the batter side.

I m used to do it since a couple of years now and to think and stay away from typical druming concept. There is nothing preventing you from reaching the hi hat or cymbals from underneath, or using your fingers on the snare during a cross stick, or using the base of your sticks rather than the tip if you need to quickly reach the hi hat while you re hitting a cymbal. It s a principle I keep in mind when playing since several years. What matters is the sound and rhythm that you come up with, and not how you make it happen.

Its such a cool flam sounding fill, but in practice it requires you to move your arms so quickly over what feels like a pretty jarring distance. I guess it's just "get fast duh" at the end of the day, but if anyone has any advice i'd love to hear!
