Yeah exactly. I think this explains a lot of the "stupidity" Jimmy has. Jimmy has extremely high intelligence, but his social awareness just isn't really there yet because he is in fact, still a child. Characters like this are usually pretty nuerodivergent-coded as well, which would also explain some.

Intelligence is not the same thing as wisdom. Jimmy has to be incredibly intelligent and creative to build what he does, but he does not have much knowledge about how that intelligence can be applied safely. He realizes that many of his inventions go wrong, which is probably why he restricts them to personal use most of the time (where he is completely in control), but he is always able to resolve issues when they inevitably do come up, which shows high problem solving skills and performance under pressure. Limiting Jimmy's potential is not the best for Retroville.

Jimmy is a genius on paper, but he is held back by the fact that he is still an elementary school kid, who has probably been -told- he's smart a bit too often, and like any kid he still has a bit of an ego. What Darkwing Duck is to superheroics, Jimmy is to science; both are technically competent individuals, with exceptional ability in their fields...held back entirely by their own hubris, lack of social graces, and the fact both don't always know when to quit.

Jimmy's technical intelligence comes from the Neutron side, but his occasional common sense comes from his mom's side and is gradually tempered by his own life experience. He's still a kid, even with great skills at mathematics, mechanics, etc. Judy on several episodes demonstrates a very good grasp of advanced science and science jargon. She knows her stuff and is a sensible, serious woman and homemaker as well. Smart in a "normal smart person" way rather than "cartoon mad scientist" way.

I remember seeing this one scene from the show, though my memory is hazy on how it actually happened. Jimmy was explaining something about one of his inventions and how there was a flaw he wasn’t aware of or something? But then his mother explains the issue in such perfect in depth detail that it leaves both Jimmy and Hugh with a shocked expression. I don’t remember if that’s 100% how it went, but ever since that scene, I always believed the genius must come from his mothers side of the family.

I'd like to imagine that Jimmy doesn't try to turn a profit from his inventions because his parents instilled him with the morality to not do so. As for the electricity bills, I'd imagine Jimmy found/made and uses his own power source separate of his home, which is why his parents are okay with his lab. Compare that to fellow boy genius of the time, Dexter, who kept his lab a secret, partially because he knew it ran the bill to extremes

I always found it funny how in the episode “Men at Work” they need to find jobs to be able to get the money to buy gold to fuel some jet pack helmets. I mean, Jimmy has so much stuff in his lab to start a business to make money off of. Or even just selling his ideas to companies and taking the quick cash. With everything he has I’m shocked he doesn’t use that to make money. Heck how does he even afford half the stuff in his lab he uses to make his inventions? He can afford to build functioning rockets but can’t buy a few ounces of gold. And also, who uses gold as fuel when there are much cheaper and more efficient alternatives. Those helmets last maybe a minute tops while his jet pack and rockets can go for much longer and he can apparently afford to fuel those. Also in the very same episode he has enough money to upgrade McSpankys with robotics and new furniture and decorations but he still needs that job to make money? I love this show but sometimes Jimmy makes absolutely no sense lol. On a side note, there are several episodes where Jimmy wants to get rich, like the asteroid ruby one and the one where he convinces his dad to invest in McSpankys. Whenever I watch those, I just have to facepalm because I know there is so many alternate ways for him to get rich that those shouldn’t even be plot points. Also apparently he can’t afford encyclopedias.

However, he is also reckless, often going through with a plan just because he can, before considering if he should, and his inability or unwillingness to think things through before beginning a project are all indicative of a low wisdom score. Bro the scene if hugh dumping chemical waste into the lake put me in stitches. He's a genius, but he's still a kid. And his parents still take care of him and treat him very sweetly.

So... I feel that I have to point out that Jimmy had the second best ladb in Nickelodeon's multiverse. Timmy's friend actually has the best lab, according to his wish. I guess that what I'm getting at is that Jimmy is like Doofenshmirtz. He is smart, but he is not a self-conscious child, unlike Phineas & Ferb. The two brothers are the smartest of all the genius kids in the world. They also got nobel prizes in the future, and made people's lives better because they have better planning. This is something that Doof and Jimmy lack, but they also lack of one of the most important things in the world: luck. P&F are cannonically extremely lucky, almost as if the universe was compensating for Murphy's law. Anyways, this is just an excuse to convince you to talk about Phineas & Ferb + Milo Murphy's Law lore and geopolitics. Spoiler Alert: they cannonically have world peace!

1:30 I like to think that sitting on a banana somehow nullified Hugh's boy genius status. Look before you sit kids, your future depends on it.

Every episode is a scifi fable. There's even an episode with a similar plot to Flowers For Algernon. Gotta blast!

Hugh Newton was obsessed with ducks. It's possible that was what he was "knowledgeable" about. It's not usual for so called geniuses to get obsess about one topic but lacking in social skills

Jimmy went full intelligence and forgot about wisdom and charisma. Meanwhile, Hugh went full charisma, then a dash wisdom and said fuck that to intelligence.
