The point about not caring who's behind the character and Kizuna when the company was pretty much forced to make the three characters BECAUSE people cared about the OG voice actress and didn't want any switches to be done. You can't one day exchange Korone's VA and expect it to be smooth sailing, Hololive would have a company destroying backlash for it, other members would leave as they are often friends IRL, it'd be a disaster.

Just to clarify about the Taiwan thing, it's even more ironic than that. The Chinese cannot actually access youtube, so like you said they used a VPN to use youtube. *They set their location as Taiwan.* So it's the Chinese's fault for the Taiwanese analytics even really existing, and they're upset... despite that if Taiwan wasn't a sovereign country they wouldn't have high speed access to youtube.

They form the relationship by believing the character is who the person really is, and they become dangerous when put in a position where that idea is challenged or broken. Also, forming a parasocial relationship with a purely fictional character that does not exist in any way is even worse, and someone like that needs to get professional help asap.

Making demands and suggestions is common audience behaviour, what parasocial discourages is invading a streamer's privacy and shaming entitled behaviour. A VTuber model is an animated toon with a streamer personality, the streamer doesn't act whacky and flirtatious off-camera, fans are fine to treat them like an interactive cartoon. One of my favorite vtubers is IronMouse and I remember her saying one stream that being able to play online and stream as a vtuber has helped her feel human since her autoimmune disease keeps her indoors and mostly in bed. One critical part that was not quite correct is the claim that vtubers aren't genuine and they're a character. In truth, only a tiny portion of it is a character, and the "multiple people playing Kizuna Ai" experiment ended in a failure precisely because personality is so tied to their appeal. So this part doesn't really make much sense and seems like a lack of knowledge. What would make much more sense to address is how there are very popular Japanese youtubers out there who are not vtubers and do show their face, and yet somehow it's these avatar users that get international fame for some reason. Their personalities are the same as before they became vtubers, so why did adopting this avatar make them so famous? On one hand, you can feel happy about their newfound success, on the other hand, one feels a little sad that they are only famous by not showing their real face.

probably because there is a significant difference in tracking: the usual vtuber animation that you see is just usually basic face and eye tracking, with rarely hand tracking. in order to do full body tracking accurately, the performers have to wear entire mo-cap suits, which you can imagine get real stuffy and annoying on a regular basis, making it harder to focus on entertaining. Hololive has done pretty accurate 3d full body capture at times, but thats like 2% of the time since its very uncomfortable for the performers

MAN, you could not have said it better. I genuinely thought I was the weird one out of my friends for not liking vtubers/ anime in general. I could not for the life of me find anyone who agreed with how I felt. So hearing you just say "I hate vtubers" and then literally point out everything I find wrong and creepy and cringe about them was so satisfying. Also loved hearing you talk about the way they talk, like its uncanny and weird as hell. Like there are people that think ironmouse does not fake her voice because she has a "disorder". They are too obsessed with the persona to realize that is not her real voice, no human being sounds like that because no human being has EVER sounded like that. And finally the part about the over-sexualization for the horny boys could not be more accurate. I have never seen a vtuber clip that isnt just them sexualizing their model, moaning, etc. And I can name several vtubers off the top of my head that do this, even though i dont watch them, for example, shylily, ironmouse, cinder, gawrgura, etc. It truly is sad that they do this, but that theirs also a huge audience that likes it.
