Looking at the release dates of the weapons, we see that the Iron Bomber is the newest primary, and was released alongside the Quickiebomb Launcher in the Smissmas 2014 Update. With that in mind I'd wager that what happened is whoever implemented these weapons started with the Quickie, looked at the implementation of the Scottish Resistance and matched it, and then used that same implementation method on the Iron Bomber. The problems that arise are pretty unobvious, so since there were no massive issues, it passed spec and went into the game.

Something people seem to miss is that, despite the "hitbox" being bigger, it is actually only the rough cuboid bounding box. The physics model is actually still the stock pipe. Correct me if I am the moron!

I have just below 6 thousand hours in this game and use stock infinitely more anyway. I didn't feel bullshitted when an IB killed me before, why should I now? Because pen & paper mathematics don't always translate into the gameplay proper. If you were hit by an IB...you were probably gonna be hit if the demo was using stock. Sorry. But remove tumbling from stock kthxvalve.

tumbling from stock forces you to aim, iron bomber is a straight upgrade in every way. Demoman never has or needed a buff when the sticky bomb launcher is your primary weapon of damage. Your grenade launcher should be a backup weapon but the iron bomber makes it a reliable primary and that's the problem.

@@d4rks1p3 I respectfully disagree. Now granted, I always treated the GL as the true primary weapon. (I have about 8k more kills on my GL than sticky) Which is admittedly a bad habit, and I've been using sticky more. Fact is both the Sticky and GL are reliable primaries, IMO, and that's where demo's power comes from. He has two primary weapons. Does the Iron Bomber have a slight advantage to hitting enemies consistently? Sure. Better than stock? Mm. I prefer my stock rollers and blast radius more. And very hard disagree on tumbling. There is a reason most Comp lobbies and Creators.tf disable tumbling. Its another random layer to a game that should have very little.

It is probably better, when those clutch times come and you hit a pipe just barely hitting the enemy's hitbox, that you wouldn't have hit with stock is kinda BS, that said in casual this change is meaningless or anywhere where random spread for granades launcher is kept. If you look at the game in the most serious why, this is a problem that should be fixed

@@bruschetta7711 Comp is truly the only way I see this being an issue, yeah, but frankly I don't know if we should change the properties of the IB to match Stock/Loch or vice versa. Frankly I'd prefer it if stock/loch matched the IB, but that's just me. I play most the classes and I have demo in my pocket these days, but I'm a filthy Scout/Soldier main and must admit that Demo's pipes are far harder to use than rockets. If they were changed to be more consistent, if only a near-negligible shred, I don't see myself or many comp players being brokenhearted.

But like, the iron bomber apparently also checks for the player bumping hitbox rather than the player model hitbox to know if it should direct, and let me tell you, the iron bomber hits WAY more often because of that. The bumping box is humongous.
