Wonderful! Having my coffee in the van totally snowed in with about 2 foot of the stuff here in the Peak District .... It's a stark contract to being in West Australia for the last 3 months! April 12th and I head back to the outback for another 3 months! Bacon and cherry pie, I think you boyz have it just about right. 👍 Let that chainsaw warm a bit more, and have more refreshments... That ice storm knocked a lot of power lines down out there by you. My friend Bronson that lives by you is a lineman for ComEd he was busy for 3 days restoring power out there. Crazy. Got my cup of coffee and sitting in my rocking chair this Saturday morning( March 11 )enjoying Martin and Jim at the cabin. It is 54 degrees this morning and by afternoon it will be 77 degrees. Spring is in full force here. Everything is blooming and most trees have put on their new leaves. The pollen in making everything a dull green color and sending folks to the doctor with sinus problems. Must say it is beautiful here and colorful with all the blooms. Still like watching your snow from a nice warm place. God bless you and Jim and your families. From deep southeast Mississippi.

You were talking about Jim actually having cell service. If this is a problem (problem being in your eyes), you might investigate either a passive repeater or an powered repeater. A passive repeater is essentially two antennas, connected by a coaxial type cable, one high and one low, maybe on a pole. You'd need to be near it with your phone to make a call. The powered repeater works very much the same way as an powered/amplified splitter on a digital TV antenna. Both options would need to be compatible for your cell phone. Or, you could just forget it and be happy in the peace and quiet.

He has a satellite phone; I believe he just made the comment in passing about Jim's phone actually having a signal due to the fact that 99% of the time there is no signal at his cabin, hence the satellite phone.

During our stay he got the first spam call while sitting inside the cabin, some advancements we can live with out at the cabin. I switched for the satellite to an INreach device that allows easy and much cheaper texting.
