Ask anyone who was looking for a KSG during the Obama years what that was like. That attitude produces frustration on the customer side but also takes a lot of guesswork out of long-term planning. There are Cope-15s made here in Canada, but most are not good and the good ones are way too expensive for what they are. I took the plunge to get the RDB while I wait for the C21 to get overturned. I took it out to the range today to sight it in and adjust the gas block. Took 3 shots to sight it but double fed on the 4th because I turned the gas too low. I fixed it with a flathead screwdriver and without disassembling the gun like some people have done. Turned it back up 2 clicks, and it functioned flawlessly after (100 rounds for today). The trigger, and ergonomics are great. Overall feel is good, some people will probably say cheap plastic, but it's not as bad as you think. There is some slop in the handguard because of the design, but it didn't affect me in accuracy. The bolt release is fine for me, I reach up from the bottom and pull both sides down after inserting the mag). Field strip is simple, only need a cartridge. I really can't fault it for being a budget bullpup semi 5.56, especially here in Canada. So if you're looking for a semi 5.56 in Canada, don't hesitate to try it out. I really like mine.

I went to an engineering college near keltec and one of my cohorts was the tech on the RDB. They initially made the gas block out of aluminum hex stock because it required less machining operations to match their aesthetic. It blew up a lot. Hopefully now it is steel. You can see this design element in other keltec things, using hex stock to make their lines without having to machine the surfaces.

I been shooting with the X95 for awhile now and while its a little gassy (without a suppressor) but I have grown to love it. With the right sling you can carry it and maneuver in vehicles and drive without it banging around. The gun is a little heavy but is very well made.

Short answer from an engineer : it behaves like a long stroke because the of the, effectively, oprod welded to the bolt carrier. Now strictly speaking, it is still a short stroke piston because the piston itself is not moving the entire length of travel of the bolt carrier... which mean technically yes, the AR15 is a long stroke gas piston.

I've had mine for almost a year but only been out to the range a half a dozen times and about 800 rounds. Only experienced 2 problems and I'm pretty sure at least one was user induced. I really like it especially after I added the mag well adapter and bolt release extension. Is it a battle rifle, absolutely not. But then again I'm just an old fat guy that likes shooting and I enjoys different and quirky things. For the $699 I spent on it I'm very satisfied with the RDB.

I think bullpups in general are making a totally different platform that needs to fit the capabilities of much more popular and modular platforms at pretty high prices. Everyone could potentially build an AR that is perfect for them, while bullpups require compromise still.

This comes out right after I spent the morning rebuilding my Desert Tech Trek-22 (bullpup 10/22) because I wanted to put a Ruger BX trigger pack in it. But of course I forgot that I ALSO needed to move my aftermarket bolt catch to the new trigger pack. And the Trek-22 has about 800 screws of varying lengths to chase around. But I still love it. Yes, bullpups are stupid, but they’re *my* kind of stupid.

Good video. One way to improve your pencil-barrel is to get the kit sold for making your own graphite fishing rods, and use it to wrap your barrel up to full- or bull thickness for added stiffness and vastly improved heat dissappation. The benchrest guys figured that out in the 80's. Not having one continuous run from breech to muzzle is going to do weird things to heat dissappation, so *don't overheat it,* or you could warp your barrel!

As someone who owns 7 or 8 RDBs and has SBRed a few of them, I agree that they sorely need to do a gen 2 with a better rail design. The Lucky handguard is much more solid than the keltec as it isn't QD. I have gotten around the light mounting issues by just running a clicky cap. As much as I love bullpups and the RDB, you are SOL with top rail length when you want to run a lpvo with anything infront of it, like you said. there are ways around it, but they all suck. And btw, custom cast usa makes a brass catcher for that, that has a spring steel clasp for easy dumping.

The optics rail mounting is why I got rid of my RDB and bought an MDRx. I only shot it once but luckily since I put a heavy scope on it I immediately noticed the wobble. That’s a major design flaw and I can’t imagine why they haven’t managed to attach it to the receiver yet.

Funny part is, this gun got a gen 2, they just never said anything about it. I’m talking about the ever so slight change to the bolt that they did. My particular RDB had to get taken to a gunsmith and we removed a part that was added to it as it interfered with the recoil spring but ya, this gun it mildly adequate and really the only person who should get one is the person who can’t be talked out of it. Great vid, very accurately shows the guns pros and cons

it's a short stroke. the same way that an aug or a scar is a short stroke. they all just have long ass op rods that look like they should be pistons but are usually that long to add mass to the bolt carrier, provide a surface at the front for a charging handle, or act as guide rods instead of having guide rails. the piston is the thing that has direct influence from the tapped gas. everything else that looks like a piston is either an op rod or a guide rod.

As a light infantry guy, my experience with "CQB shooting" is having to walk across fields and through woods for a few kilometers before I even got to the door I had to kick in. When in that series of events will you actually run into contact? lmao who knows? The balance making it easy to carry, the extended point blank range and the small form factor for close quarters (when you finally get there), while not perfect, always felt to me like a great GP rifle for the person who understands you might not get to choose your engagement. I love my X95, but as always, the price...!
@MikeBobby-l7o7 күн бұрын
I think one aspect of bullpups that is overlooked is they can be very good general purpose rifles for people who only have one rifle. I think allot of us here have a bunch of firearms, so you can always have a better niche gun, something that is better for CQB something that is better for long distance etc. However for someone who has 1 rifle to be used for everything indoors or out, bullpups are a compelling choice as a jack of all trades master of none.
