This actually isn’t true. The Standard Oil company received permission from ibn Saud to wildcat for oil. They struck oil at one of their drills in Dammam in 1938. So no, it was part of a conscious effort to find oil.

I loved this movie. I was afraid it was going to just be just a bunch of bullets and bombs in hollywood's depiction of the middle east, but it was surprisingly very well made and culturally accurate. Maybe the last 10 minutes were a little far-fetched, but otherwise it was sweet. And I absolutely dig the opening credits.

Here in Canada we have tons of oil but it's in oil sands and in the arctic and hard rock, not soft sand in liquid form in a place that is always warm and flat. We also have stricter environmental laws than the middle east and better safety and labour standards which means it's hard to produce the amount of oil they do at the low cost they do.

The Begining and middle part of the film was very good and an eye opener to some. Although I thought the ending was cool but it did ruin the points I thought it was making. And I realised it wasnt really making a point it was just misleading to build up to an action thriller. Or they were trying to make a point but made the ending the way it was to try and make more people see it.

@@laughsinmisogyny8827 yikes what? let me explain then. First off the fact that u had to turn to movies and shows which arent based entirely in reality in order to "learn" about global economics is a symptom of how fcked US public education is. Second, the fact that this moive tricked one into thinking they "learned" anything about global and economics and politics(the word you're looking for is geopolitics) is a symptom of how well the lies have been told. The people, the states, responsible for the september 11th attacks are USA, Israel, Saudi Arabia and pakistan. The two former most states provided the logistics and materials(planning, material, motive). The latter most states provided the intelligence(information, people). I didnt learn any of this in middleschool tho, I had to learn it on my own and it blew my mind. My middle school version was harrow, my alma mater is London School of Economics and Political Science. And even then I never figured it out till AFTER schooling. School doesnt teach u anything. All it does is equip u with the ability to put 1 and 1 together. Some leave school with that ability but never go on to do the math themselves, nevermind the internet being replete with information that one can easily filter through.
@laughsinmisogyny88272 жыл бұрын
@@theinsivibleman5309 so let me get this straight, NOTHING in the intro is true, according to you? The Saudi dudes were the hijackers, etc, etc Plus, you seem to totally missed the point of what I was saying that my school was poorly funded and they were teaching us out of 30 year old books.

Were they really only trying to find water and just happened to find oil, or is that just one of those bullshit stories where people are looking for "life" and stumble upon riches in the middle of the desert? Honestly this makes Disney's Aladdin feel that much real. Some nobody goes into the desert and finds an ocean of oil and instantly becomes the richest person in the country. Prince Ali, something is he, Ali a babwaaaa! And then a bunch of elephants and birds lead a parade through downtown Saudi Arabia and he gets the girl at the end? (I know I went off the deep end on this one but for real, were they looking for water and then found oil by mistake?)
