Relocate / Teleport / Summon (Re:Zero, Log Horizon, Overlord, Shield hero, Cautious hero, KonoSuba) 3. Reverse Isekai (Devil is a part-timer, Isekai Ojisan, Fate Series 😅 technically) If there is ever a thing called "BIG 3 ISEKAI" it would be: 1. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (King of Reincarnation route) 2. Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World (King of Relocate route) 3. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime a.k.a TenSura (not the Reverse isekai route but for me it's the third best isekai out there)

i was always confused about konosuba, unlike the other isekai anime that fall into teleport and the rest in no.2, kazuma did die and his body was left behind, it was basically his soul that was with aqua then given a replica of his old body as he was sent off. Like reincarnated with my smartphone, it should fall under reincarnation not teleport/summon/relocate as it just that instead of a baby's body, he got an older body.

Ascendance of a bookworm is so great, love the light novels for it. The anime was surprisingly good as well, love the openings. Tensura and Ascendance of a Bookworm are my favorite light novels. Surprised to see the total fantasy knockout one as well, but I agree, it's great.

Re:zero is borderline struggle of a watch/read, a sense of nitty gritty. MT is just properly built; it embraces the dull moments of life. Personally it is akin to LotR, polished that they didn't make shortcuts. If I were to compare the difference of the two, Re:zero would be autobiographical in nature, recalling the one-sidedness of the experience. I like how @velkuro decided on things, I think Isekai appreciation should be properly distinguished.

I know that I am very late, but I just wanted to say that I absolutely loved this video. I agree with all of your points and as my favorite anime, let alone isekai, I feel like you have been one of the few people to truly understand MT. What people usually don’t understand is that MT is not a story about redemption. I guess people see the absolutely despicable pos that is rudeus at the beginning and think that the end goal of the story is redemption, it’s not. It’s about exactly what you said, just trying to live your life as best as you can. By the end of the story, he doesn’t redeem himself, he still has his “irredeemable” qualities, but he has worked through them, accepted them as a part of him, and then used them to move forward. I would also consider the Spider isekai one. I personally really like the storyline and how mysterious it is as you keep watching it. Sadly the animation/artstyle is a little wonky and it's unlikely it will even get a second season.

My top 3 isekai are: 1. Parallel World Pharmacy 2. Reincarnated as a Sword 3. Reincarnated as a Slime Parallel World Pharmacy managed to take my interest in medicine, but also didn't bore the hell out of me (cough cough drugstore in another world) or make me cringe with excessive fanservice, it's a great watch if you haven't already! It's also actually got a good fightscene at the end, which I wasn't expecting considering there honestly isn't much action in this anime. It's a plus for me, but some people were irritated by it, so there's your warning! Reincarnated as a Sword is found family fluff at its best! Super cool magic system too. Also, I simp for Klimt. The protagonist is kinda funny too ngl. If you want to watch a sword adopt a catgirl and make her overpowered, check it out! And every single viewer of your channel knows Reincarnated as a Slime is the best. The only reason it isn't number one is because I'm too enamoured with medicine not to put Parallel World Pharmacy at the top, and even my Rimuru Bias cannot contend with my simping for Klimt lmao Honorable Mentions: "The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior" is a mouthful of a title, but it's got an OP protagonist and is some nice reincarnated as the villainess junk food. It's gotta be my favorite isekai trope lol. The side characters actually have some decent development too, which I honestly wasn't expecting. There's also a fair amount of action, if that's your thing. All in all, fun watch, if not the most intellectually stimulating lol "Killed Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed out My Level" is a nice slow fluffy anime. Female protagonist, yay, and it's surprisingly not boring despite it being an incredibly chill watch. If you just want something to vibe with on a rainy day, check it out! "The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady" Lesbians. Need I say more? (To be serious tho, nice watch for fluff, has some serious moments with unexpected stakes, and is overall, decent trash with lgbt rep!) "My Next Life as a Villainess" genuinely pretty funny, good bi rep because the clueless protag is ammassing a mix-gender harem lmao. Mostly a slice of life/romance/drama anime, not much action! "Reborn To Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire" dude doesn't regret becoming a king, but decides to reincarnate for the sole purpose of dedicating his life to fighting. He picks someone to be the brains and decision maker, and purposely makes himself seem magicless so he's forced to stay their squire and can't be promoted to be given responsibilities other than fighting. Also he reincarnates as a girl lol "Campfire Cooking in Another world with my absurd skill" dude summoned to be a warrior has a "useless" skill. Wacky shenanigans ensue due to his great cooking. Good trash :) And you already brought up Farming Life in Another world, so I'll just say that I second that recommendation because it's actually pretty good!

First of all. Great video, btw. Now, second of all. I have one anime that is still airing but nobody is covering it. It's Shangri-la Frontier, so like I just wanted to shout it out cuz it's literally everything people wanted from SAO when they first started watching but were super disappointed. It is super different and really fun people tend to judge it really quickly because the mc in the game wears this bird mask but if you can move past that. You will realize how good it really is, this happened with Tensura bcuz rimuru was a slime. The tier list I agree with. But yeah so to those who have not tried Shangri-la I highly recommend cuz I have been vouching for it for so long and if you like reading the manga you can it gets weekly updated and the artwork is beautiful. It has good progression and great arcs and awesome fights.

Fleshed out boss mechanics, different abilities, and weapons. As a matter of fact, shangri la Frontier branches out into different games as well and in those games also it was very well-paced and fresh. In the manga and web novel never once has any unique monster or story felt repetitive and most important of them all it feels so relatable as somebody who plays video games quite a lot now I am not sure how far you have watched the show or have read the manga or web novel but I would like to say that before you dismiss it completely give it a try you will not regret it.

I would put Shangri La Frontier in to the VR game genre rather than an isekai since there isn’t any entrapment going on. I like this genre but don’t really consider it isekai. Just like Solo leveling is isekai-ish but not. But I agree it’s a good anime. For this genre a good slice of life one is the A Playthrough of a certain dude’s vrmmo life.

Slime has a variety of characters, powers and skills, superb world building, amazing story telling, decent animation, light comedy, strategy, planning and politics, most accurate power scaling, screen-time and shining moments for every major characters and the best protagonist of all time. This anime has everything that I could ask for in a good anime and it is good in all of them. ❤❤😊

The one thing about most isekai that I don't understand is why it's always medieval Europe. I get that it just fits, but I want something with a little more spice. Why not something still in Europe, but a little more modern? Such things could be something similar to the trenches on the Western Front and the horrors beyond comprehension that come with it. I know this is an unpopular take but just imagine this. The main protagonist is reincarnated/brought to a new world, they do the typical slice of life to throw off the viewers. Then, they get drafted into trench warfare against other species like demons or lizardmen.

Tensura/reincarnated as a slime Very good first impressions, I binged this in one day for the first season. Theres no other words I have for this 2.Mushoku tensei Despite its controversy and me questioning my morality, the world building is crazy, they have their own fuctional language created and spoken in an episode, magic system is somewhat unique, also I have never seen this done in an isekai but Rudy has to learn an entirely new language when he was born instead of everyone speaking japanese. 3. Eminence in shadow The team said f... it, make the protagonist sh@tty but make sure the music is god level and the world building interesting. 4. Konosuba The chemistry between all the characters makes up a perfect dish of comedy. 5. Tanya Train-kun made a big mistake isekaing this demon I have seen re:zero S1 but I really disliked it, I know someone is going to flame me but the first impressions for it were terrible, it felt like I was trying to watch konosuba but it was just kazuma only on the screen. Theres not really anything that sticks out like a sore thumb in this isekai, I don't find it special at all.

Cautious Hero deserves to be mentioned among the comedy isekai. Combatants will be Dispatched is another good one if you want something similar to Konosuba, but in imo this is both good and bad when it comes to this anime

In regards to the best Isekai I'm also conflicted about the same two series: Mushoku Tensei and Re:zero. Both of them stand out to me, because the character cast in general and the protagonist specificly is interesting. If I had to make a pick I'd go with Mushoku Tensei, because it leans more towards the character driven story, where Re:Zero is more of a story-focused isekai. One of the things I like more about Mushoku Tensei is that it showcases that change is a gradual procedure since we take a step forward and it might happen that we take two steps back right after that, but we keep pushing on towards change, because that's who we want to be. That's something not a lot of series do. We often get a character that wants to change, hit a certain obstacle and after overcoming it the character simply "changed" and never goes back on it.

I love how the Turning point 1-4 are that, important events that not only changed the story, but made Rudeus grown as a person, not just in age, but mentality better that his past life, I don't want to give spoilers, but the chat that Rudeus had with Nanahoshi shows that all the story wasn't for nothing.

But that's also a thing that re:zero does, we see through the story the development of Subaru's thinking and way of acting to overcome his objectives a lot of times, and sometimes he just doesn't learn anything and stumbles over the same stone like a normal person in real life would do, sometimes we don't change our actions because of our lack of maturity and our selfish behaviours, and that's what is so fascinating about Subaru and how complex he is, it feels so alive that it could be a normal person in the hardest path put by god overcoming unrealistic situations, breaking him sometimes, becoming better others, and even without improving other times

​@@DA-ll8vq What you describe are in Re:Zeros case most of the time real, physical obstacles, like how to solve a very concrete issue at hand. Something he needs to overcome for the story to progress after all. I don't say that Subaru doesn't learn anything, but the way MT tells it's story about change is a lot more human. In other words... hm. Subarus change feels a lot more "anime", where Rudeus change feels a lot more natural. I like both series, but if I had to pick I'd go with the natural change one. That one just clicks more for me. So don't get me wrong. Seeing Subaru crying to sleep at Emilias lap or Subaru changing gears after Rems lovely speech are really great and we love to see him solve his obstacles afterwards, but whenever he stumbles is often due to the really special circumstances he is put into, not necessarily due to his own personal shortcomings. But there is the main difference to see for both series. Re:Zeros point is to make Subaru powerless to challenge his ability to overcome unfair scenarios, where Rudeus is really powerful, but is challenged on a personal level to handle life itself.

I'd argue both shows are very character focused, literally every somewhat relevant character in Re:Zero gets a time to shine and their own character arc. They both do it differently and Re:Zero definitely focuses on the plot more but both are completely character driven

Lmao Re Zero is the more realistic potrayal of mental health and Mushoku tensei is more like the hollywood understanding of it. Mushoku feels like hollywood and western novels thats why it feels realistic but its themes are shallow as a puddle. What you call "anime like" in re zero, i call poetic. Personally Re:Zero and Tensura is S+ tier, while Mushoku Tensei sits between low S and high A. I would have placed Shield Hero (low to mid A) above Mushoku Tensei, but it lost its charm after the revenge plot was resolved. It just fell off HARD. Personally a good isekai balances tropes well and appeals to a wide age range. My mother, who initially disliked anime, became a fan after watching Tensura. However, she was put off by some "scenes" in Mushoku Tensei despite enjoying the action and animation. The excessive fan service was a turn-off for her. Among my friends and family, no one ranks Mushoku Tensei higher than Tensura. Some ranked Re;zero, but not MT. tl;dr MT is good but not on the same league as Tensura and Re;Zero. Horni weebs may disagree but idc

I know many people love Re:Zero but it just B tier for me. If you want trauma The Saga of Tanya the Evil that is true trauma there is no reset button for Tanya. Also I suggest The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash, It oddly dark slice of life might even be better then Bookworm, I doesn't always create comfort but creates joy in the little things that make slice of life shine. side note many top slice of life anime get pretty dark.

Mushoku tensei as an entire storyline is definetly the best but a lot of people get put off by the fan service. MT also has some of the best world building and deepest characters who are realistic and have real human emotions. It is an intricate story line with many turns and tribulations which eventually lead to some rewarding payoff and great character development. The fan service is overdone and personally I dont like it but the rest of it still puts it comfortably above the other Isekais

For me Eminence in Shadow or Cid as the best MC should be on top 1 cause Cid unlike any other isekai MC earned his power through his own effort he has the lowest mana or magic power out of everyone in his verse and even if he has the lowest magic power in his verse he used it in the most efficient way possible and throughout countless experiment on the curse possession and rebuilding or reconstructing his body he managed to obtained that much power unlike others who obtained skills and systems and such Cid Kagenou obtained his strength all on his own

I read Mushoku first, than ReZero and recently Tensura and after reading the novels, I can say that my favorite is Mushoku Tensei than ReZero and than Tensura, all three are really great works, not just isekai but in general, but the best has to be The Beginning After The End. After reading the books, it just immediately goes to number 1, and the mc Arthur is probably my favorite character in fiction, after batman and spiderman of course, you can check it out but the webtoon stopped just before the best parts, it will supposedly return this spring. I know the star is really similar to Mushoku but just the start, the characters and setting are completely different. Edit: The Saga of Tanya the Evil, Overlord, Eminence in Shadow, My Next Life as a Villainess, So I'm a Spider, So What? are all great as well

Parallel World Pharmacy is my favorite isekai, it's a good watch and I highly recommend it if you're itching for something medical in a fantasy setting! There also isn't much fanservice, which is a plus for some and a negative for others (my asexual ass just wants to watch the show not the tits lmao)

Warning: long comment with my reviews of these anime Konosube: I'm not a huge fan of comedy, and I don't really want all of the fan service that I've heard it contains. It's probably still worth the hype, but I've never seen it Eminence in Shadow: I just said I'm not a huge fan of comedy, buuuut.... Po Tato, Skel Etal, Mundane Mann. Need I go on? This anime is amazing I's probably my 4th or 5th favorite isekai (and I've seen hundreds hours of isekai). 9/10 That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime: It's fun and light hearted, almost a slice of life, but not quite. The one problem, a lot of the women are VERY top heavy, it makes me... Sorry, what I meant to say was: It makes it hard to read the subtitles. 8/10 Ascendants of a Bookworm: My sister recommended this one to me. Slice of life isn't really my cup of tea, but it was still good, and it made me cry a bit at the end. 8/10 (10/10 if you like slice of life) Life with an ordinary guy who reincarnates as a total fantasy knockout: Never seen it. Again, I don't really like comedy Reincarnated as a Vending Machine: It sounds dumb. Never seen it. I recommend No Game No Life instead. It's a lot sus and will probably never get a 2nd season, but it's very good (8.5/10), and the movie is a 10/10 Farming life in another world: I'm not a fan of the slice of life genre. Never seen. Mushoku Tensei: You do need to get past the first few episodes. Those first episode make it feel like a trash isekai that excels at making you feel uncomfortable (Rudy being super pervy and awkward). Once you get past that, it is a fantastic anime. What I think really sets it apart is that Rudy isn't a hero. He makes mistakes and does some bag things. There isn't some big evil that someone needs to defeat. It just shows Rudy's' growth as a character and his journey as an adventurer. The anime also does an excellent job at adding tension and making peaceful scenes feel important. 9.5/10 As for Re:Zero the first part is excellent, but a lot of people quit watching halfway through the first season. Mostly because Subaru is kind of (a lot) annoying. Yes, those episodes aren't the best, but the fact that Subaru is annoying proves how well he was written (you see why near the end of season 2). You just have to push through a handful of annoying episodes. As was said in the video, the anime excels at inflicting pain. Every episode is filled with suffering, and it only gets worse the further you progress. From what I've heard, the suffering in season 2 doesn't even compare to what we will get in season 3. I feel a bit of fear every time I hear that trauma track 12/10 Though it wasn't mentioned in the video, Overlord deserves its spot as one of the best isekai of all time. It is more a part of the trash isekai sub genre, but it is, in my opinion, just as good as Mushoku Tensei. 9.5/10

Sure as Isekai that represent those particular categories of Isekai, I'll agree with your picks; however, if I were to rank Isekai as one category: 1) Mushoku Tensei, 2) Overlord 3) Reincarnated as a Slime. Honorable mentions: Eminence in Shadow, ReZero, Grimgar, Kono Suba, Welcome to Demon School Iruma Kun and Log Horizon. I wish Reincarnated as a Sword's quality stayed strong through the whole first season, but unfortunately it didn't, and I wish Tsukimichi's second season had not become so typical of lower effort Isekai. Tanya the Evil is a pretty good anime, but is not my jam. Tier S: Mushoku Tensei Tier A: Overload, ReZero, Reincarnated as a Slime, Eminence in Shadow, Kono Suba, Tanya the Evil, Log Horizon, Grimgar, Iruma Kun, Tier B: Book Worm (it's good in so many ways but it's too boring at the same time--perhaps I'm just too prejudice of heartfelt being the main part of the show) Drifters, SOA season 1, Isekai Quartet, Spider so What, Reincarnated as a Sword, Shield Hero season 1, No Game, No Life, Reincarnated in an Otome Game, Campfire Cooking, Tsukimichi: Moonlight Fantasy. I'm not going to bother listing C tier. There are some I left out like Death Mount Death Play cuz I'm undecided where they land. This tier list ranks them in order of how they rate as an anime in general. Mushoku Tensei is the only Isekai that is simply a great anime. Though ReZero sometimes wanders into that realm, I find Overload to be more consistently good, which is why I rank it higher. Reincarnated as a Slime is pretty decent as an anime in general but achieves a higher rating in Isekai because it invokes the most Isekainess. Isekai is great because the exposition of the story doesn't require explaining because you are discovering a new world with the MC, and no Isekai does that better than Reincarnated as a Slime.
