In this movie, we experience privileged kids crying over their beach house, Noah getting a lobotomy, Rachel looking great in every outfit, a random Mario Kart race in bad wigs, and basically one giant excuse for the actors to have a paid vacation.

Imagine: you and your girlfriend of 5 years sit down at the fanciest restaurant in the area. You plan on proposing to her tonight. You both chat, order expensive dinner and wine and talk about trivial things you both find entertaining. The night is going great and so is the restaurant you’ve chosen. Great music, great atmosphere, friendly waiters- wait what are those 2 kids doing here? Nevermind that. The time is right to propose. You get on one knee and take out the small black box in your pocket. You both know that if she says yes, this’ll be one of the greatest moments of your life that you’ll be telling your children and grandchildren for the rest of time. Before you could open your mouth, all of the sudden, “Shut up and Dance” from Walk the fucking Moon blares throughout the restaurant and all of the sudden you see a swarm of teen break out into song and dance like an episode of Glee. Your night has been ruined.

Now imagine an entirely different part of the restaurant: your two rich friends decide to dine at a fancy restaurant you're in conversation with them when you point out you think that guy's about to propose, your friends and you are getting so hyped up for this guy you wonder if she'll say no or yes. you're about to eat whatever it is you just ordered while preparing to clap if all goes well for this guy when all of a sudden you hear Shut Up and Dance play you wonder if this is part of the proposa- no it seems those weird kids that are always crying and yelling at each other have infiltrated the restaurant and you wonder if it's about time you move.

I mean... it's so easy to defend Noah though. 1 - they were playing volleyball. If you're playing volleyball, you've gotta be ready to take a ball or two in your face; if you're not ready for the heat, get out of the kitchen, you know? 2 - Yeah, they *way* Noah said what he said was far from the best way to handle it, but... Marco knows that L is with Noah, and he keeps pursuing her. If you don't respect somebody's relationship, fuck you. Being called out for being a self-absorbed asshole is the least of what you deserve. (In Marco's defense... L probably could've not sent mixed signals - I've only seen this reaction, not the whole movie, so... maybe that's a misread, but sure seems like she's not shutting him down the way that she should've.)

I really *love* how in American teen movies the protagonist all get into Ivy Schools with like 5% effort. They make it seem like it's so freaking easy..What even is the American school system? EXACTLY!! I recently read a book where it showed the stress and mental health issues that came along with trying to get into those schools, and it wonderfully showed how it can be a lot easier to get in and the stress collapses on you when you're actually working for the degree. It even showed how doubts creep up all the time and the majority of people who have a major chosen and a career planned before college actually end up changing it. It was such a huge shock for me to read it because it wasn't a published book (it was totally a wattpad book that exceeded all expectations) and I had never seen a book show this in such a casual way without downplaying it or making it way too dramatic! It handled things a lot better than most Y/A books I've read and it kills me to realize I don't even remember the title of the thing im gushing about. (kill me please)

You know, I know Elle's just an over dramatic teen, but I do empathise with her in the monopoly scene. She's a teenager and her mom's death is still fresh on her mind (not that it's ever mentioned). She hasn't moved on, but to her, it might feel like her dad is moving on. Her dad should've dealt this situation better as the adult, and considering the history behind that piece, I'd say her reaction is understandable (tho not excusable).

With the dinner vs. the flash mob, I think that part of the conflict stemmed from Noah disregarding the bucket list plans. There were clear, long-term plans that were important to Elle and Lee which he could have shown an interest in because he cares about the two of them. Instead, he disregarded the plans or only got involved because he was jealous of Marco. Besides, that whole flash mob required making a reservation, getting people together, choreographing and learning a whole dance. I would have gone to the thing I planned too.

I would go to the planned outing with Lee for 3 reasons 1) Lee has been struggling with feeling inferior to his brother since the first movie. We see him constantly get frustrated with Elle choosing Noah over him over and over and over again. And if i had to choose between a 2 year romance, and a friendship since BIRTH? Choosing Lee. 2) If you're gonna plan a spontaneous anything without consulting the other party, you gotta accept the risk that they'll be busy that night. It's not fair to expect someone to change their whole plans for you just because you didn't bother to check if they were even free. 3) Even if it's cringe, planning a flash mob seems like something that would take a lot of time and effort. Honestly, I think the dinner thing is Noah's mistake. The dude sees that she's running around and barely has time, but he decided to surprise her. I feel like he either didn't care or didn't notice which is also wrong. When someone doesn't have time, surprises aren't welcome and easily become awkward

Yes, Elle did completely overreact about the dad's gf, but I think she should get a semi-pass in this situation (and this situation only): the dad, that is the adult and not the teenager, should've had talked to her about the gf. Especially because Elle's parents are not divorced, her mom is dead. If it's the first time dad brings a gf home, I think he should have a serious conversation about it with his daughter, instead of dropping the bomb so casually. She's a teenager going through a lot. Also, the dad knew about the symbolic significance of the stupid monopoly piece and all he can say his "c'mon Eeelle, give her the pieeece"? I'm all for Elle bashing, but in this case I think the adults didn't handle the situation well.

Yeah. This is the ONLY situation in the entire trilogy that I kinda give her a pass on exactly for the reasons you stated. Her dad was very flippant both in regards to telling her that he’s now dating someone for the first time since the mother died while asking her to babysit her brother as he goes out with said new girlfriend, and about the monopoly piece. He knew the significance; didn’t tell the girlfriend before playing the game; didn’t gently steer the girlfriend away from the piece; didn’t try to defuse the situation; and completely placed all the blame on Elle, chased her out and made her feel like she was unwelcome to come back until she apologized. Like yeah. She overreacted a bit and it was super dramatic but I actually think the blame should be placed more on Elle’s father here. Still stupid though.

The worst part about this movie is the fact that I went onto twitter expecting to see people absolutely tear into this movie, but all I found were people unironically analysing parallels between the movies in the franchise and talking about how they loved the film !?!?! It truly sucked the remaining life I had left from watching it 😔💔

As someone who went to community college, transferred to state college, and worked throughout so I wouldn’t take out any loans, I can’t handle these movies because these top schools were never options for me. I would’ve respected the main girl more if she decided that school wasn’t for her and she decided to go do some other rich kid thing like take a leap year or join a reality tv show or something.

@@Gladiva19 Yeah, I am well aware that I’m envious. It also comes from the fact that I’m insecure in my education. When I was in the peace corps, week 1 someone was like, “Where did you study? Because I studied at the top linguistic school in the country.” Meanwhile I’m a community/state college grad. I’m also terrified to go to graduate school because I don’t know how I’ll survive if I can’t work. So yeah, it’s hard for me to watch things or hear about people who don’t need to worry about school or their future. It’s not escapism for me. It makes me sad. So yeah, I’m envious. What of it?

Considering all the planning that goes into a flash mob, I would go *but* tell my bf to come along and we'll go out right after. It's one thing to disrupt BFF plans because they'll understand but it's another thing to disrupt a bunch of strangers' plan when they worked hard for weeks.
