The Last Celebration at Bedok Reservoir

Slapped with fines and complaints, this year's Lunar New Year celebration will be the last one that Bedok Reservoir residents see. For over a decade, Sandy, a resident of the estate, has organised numerous neighbourhood parties during Christmas and Lunar New Year. But this year will be her last.
We've covered stories of communities starting and growing before, but this is the first time we're looking at a community that's disappearing. Can the kampung spirit truly live in our urbanised housing estates?

Hope people and govt support community works like this, help them instead of penalising. The Residence Corner where I live, super clean with nearly nothing except all day empty seats in void deck. So clean, no use, for what?

Exactly that! Spaces are meant to be used. Even the residents' corner near my place is always unused and empty. It's clean, sure, but if spaces aren't used, then they're literally useless spaces.

Ever since I moved here from Woodlands in 2019, I have been very proud to show off the festive decorations that they have created to my families. I feel safe coming back home late at night because of how bright and vibrant the decorations were. Very, very sad that this initiative has come to an end. 😢

I used to helped her out during Covid and all I can say about her is she has the sweetest, helpful and care personality ever. I seriously hope someone from HDB or other agencies will help her 😊

This is simply life. People coming together to help one another ‘regardless of race, language or religion’. The Singaporean for the Singaporean. This what people are created to do while we live on this earth. In my PERSONAL beliefs (to love one another). Surplus food is freely given away to avoid waste and in turn feed the low income as well as needy. I cannot express how much respect I have for Sandy and the volunteers. No money is exchanged for profit sake and different people getting along. All that’s needed is just some official space for storage to make all this happen. Did the gov initiate this? Dare they take credit for it? Does one even need a politician to do any of it other than to regulate some things and pacify the haters and complaining minority who are never happy in life no matter how much good you do for them? This country is a serious pressure cooker hidden behind the picture perfect tourist friendly picture. Even something so positive that makes perfect sense gets put down?! So shall we have racial wars and plundering and rioting going on? Maybe then people will wake the fk up and start being human again. Btw, I’m no patriot but I give my support to good that is due. Even if it’s just words.

Food hygiene issues. In my area after distributing the food the whole place will be cleaned. You won't be able to tell there was food distribution in the morning/afternoon. Most important is to get the food the residents want, or else there will always be a lot of leftovers.
