There's actually a non-idiotic argument for saving Finn (having an enemy defector can provide tons of valuable intel,) but the one time Finn actually gets to do this in the sequels turns out to be a trap so we can sUbVeRt ExPeCtAtIoNs. I don't even know what his purpose in the story is now besides being Rose's boyfriend. In TFA he was the audience surrogate, the character who is confused by everything so people have to explain it to him and the audience, and he sort of had a rival arc that got completely thrown away. In TLJ all of that's out the window because there's nothing for him to be confused about. Then his arc is the question of whether he'll run away or die fighting, but they answer it with "none of the above", to sUbVeRt the expectation that character arcs actually conclude with change. What's left for him to do? I have to assume his time in Episode IX is going to be spent on a "will they or won't they" romance with Rose, because that's the dumbest possible thing I can think of for him to be doing. Finn was a really promising character, his breakdown at the start of TFA was actual good filmmaking, and seeing what they've wasted him on is worse than him just never being good.

Rogue One IS the best Star Wars film. Even Better than Empire SB
@lucasrobin27885 жыл бұрын
@@mandm7950 The two scenes you've mentioned are absolutely terrible, and plenty of videos float around explaining why. The Hyperspace ramming scene breaks every single large-scale space fight ever in Star Wars history: If it's possible to destroy a fully shielded ship (+ several star destroyers) the size of Snoke's Mega Star Destroyer with a comparatively tiny Rebel ship.... why on earth were Star Destroyers ever a problem? Just ram the command deck at hyperspeed from out of gun range. Use a droid instead of a person, if no one is feeling suicidal. And the Praetorian Guard scene is filled with mistakes. There are multiple points where the guards just straight up drop their weapons for no reason. Guards disappear off screen for extended periods or stand around doing nothing. At one point Rey kicks away 3 of them with a single kick. 3 people! With one kick! It's so completely stupid. I want to like the film, I really do. I love the prequels, the originals, and the Force Awakens. I love Clone Wars, Rebels, Solo and Rogue One, even the shitty Ewok kids cartoons from like 2003. But every single moment in The Last Jedi is terrible.

And I can see why people hate them, and kinda agree with the Praetorian guard fight: it looked worse the second time around) But the OP said there were no memorable scenes in both TFA and TLJ. I completely disagree with that. There were plenty of memorable scenes in both movies. And the music themes are just as great as the Original''s and Prequel's I really really understand your complaints, I really do, and I wish everyone could have fun with all these movies. The thing that gets me about the slow space chase is that it isn't inherently a problem that it is a low-action sequence of the movie. But the problem is that they don't replace that lack of action with anything meaningful instead. That slow space chase would have been a great opportunity to explore some meaningful character dialogue. Maybe we could learn about Poe's history under Leia or why she formed the Resistance, or Finn's life as a Stormtrooper. But no, we needed to have Admiral Holdo clipping off Poe's nutsack for 45 minutes, and we needed Finn to go on a silly adventure of anti-capitalism on Canto Bight with Rose.

I think these are the best lightsabre fights we've seen - a true evolution of RotJ's fights.

The only SW film that was ever DOA was Solo, and that's because TLJ was so bad that it left a sour taste in everyone's mouth.

You are a fan of FAN FICTION.
@SSPspaz5 жыл бұрын
American Born Patriot, what a rambling incoherent response. As a general rule, I loath Disney Wars. I'm no apologist, and even if I were, that is wholly irrelevant to my point. Literally my ONLY point was to point out your misuse of the acronym "DOA". For something to be "dead on arrival" that means that it's been rejected by the target audience before it can even be launched/released. Solo is the only one that fits this criteria because at the time of release, many fans didn't give a shit. This is reflected by the poor box office figures. I'm pretty certain Episode 9 will be DOA as well considering nobody cares now that Han, Luke and Leia are dead. Most fans liked or at least tolerated TFA and R1. Their box office figures indicate they weren't dead on arrival because plenty of fans went to see them. And as shitty as TLJ was, people weren't enraged until AFTER they'd seen it. So it sold plenty of tickets and can't be considered dead on arrival either. I'm not defending shitty films, only correcting your misuse of the aforementioned term.

If there were facets of TLJ that were pulled off with passion but brought controversy then the echo chambers of malformed opinion would be valid. The fact is TLJ and S.W. is part of a corperate machine now. There is a sadness in that for many. Seeing characters that were part of a meaningful mythology turn into less meaningful characters, out of character characters is sad. So you should at the very least put them at the same level of the prequels. Then, what you say about the prequels it's true, it's all true but they lacked a better script and directing when it comes to the seriousness of the character. Just look at little Anakin and compare it to the kid of ET. 2 completely different worlds of acting and directing. And the music was changed for a more action role rather than sentimental, which I liked (example: Yoda lifting the ship).

There was a reason, that George never made another Star Wars film, that is showed us to his professionalism, he wanted his story to became eternal, a mystery, good stories never really end. That way we can think more and more into it, and maybe it will walk with us in our entire life. Just think about it, when he sold the story to Disney, that time star wars was still cool but it was the past. We loved it, but there was no real talk about it... Then one day we got the news and now, everybody talking about it and goes back to re watch the older episodes with newfound nostalgia. They instantly throw the idea of the Falcon being a cantankerous-but-useful sort of carrier (as you'd expect a smuggler to have) and give it this identity of a legendary-but-unknown armored heavy fighter. Sure, Rey says it looks old at one point, but in TFA it's more nimble than a fighter (when they don't crash into Ilum after hyperspace jumping into the planet), in TLJ (as you see in the video) it's neigh invincible and a significantly better fighter than actual purpose built fighters less than 30 years old, and in TLJ they don't even consider that the Falcon could run into any real meaningful issues stopping it and just use it as a scene transition. The Falcon's condition and abilities went from being one of the main causes of conflict in the movies to being entirely disregarded

I also love how they forgot that in space, once you’ve accelerated, you just keep going so no fuel needed🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
@CallMeMrRook5 жыл бұрын
But this is disneyVerse and these ships travel at uberSpeed, so they need fuel and not just any fuel but fuel extracted from ms Kennedy's teets.... hence why the rebels .. I mean resistance... no wait rebels??!! Erm... shit it's all shit.. fuck Dismay!!
@davidnagy56115 жыл бұрын
and at the op of the film vacuum of the space doesn t have effect on the bombers with open bomb bay then when the resistence mother ship get a huge hit, they close the doors because the vacuum XD Or when a tie fighter crashes into a first order mothership and it fall in to like the gravity would have effect on the wreck.

Except they keep going at a specific speed, while the pursuing fleet continues to accelerate. There are many valid criticisms against TLJ, but this is not one of them.

Poe Dameron is supposedly the best pilot in the Resistance. Kylo Ren is a skilled pilot with the assistance of the Force, and piloting skills inherited from both Han Solo and his Skywalker bloodline. When you put these 2 characters in the same setting in a movie, anyone would expect a starfighter dogfight between them. But no, Rian just allows Kylo to blow up the entire hangar so no more action is needed. Aren't the hangars supposed to be ray-shielded anyway?

How can a movie be this incompetent?

Let Disney, Roundhead, and Kuntleen Kennedy make it, and you'll have an incompetently made movie.

You dont need competence when surfing the wave of nostalgia. No matter how bad your movie is you gonna be walking to the bank either way.

4:43 Why are the lasers "lobbing" in an arc. They know what lasers are, right?
@rumengol5294 жыл бұрын
It's because, you know... gravity in space... and laser being like bullets... All this stuff that only happen in TLJ and nowhere else in the entire SW universe, neither canon or legends.
@michelecastellotti91724 жыл бұрын
Technically, they are plasma bolts, turbolasers are called turbolasers because they use lasers to ionize gas, wich translates to PLASMA wich an arc a bit, but no one, absolitely no one mentions how the F*CK does that thing makes the bolt arc like a gucking mortar!!! This movie deserved no respect at all, in the garbage it goes

I could have forgiven that, but the WW2 style bombers were worse. Even Y-wings have stand-off capability.
@Snagabott4 жыл бұрын
The real answer is that they decided to lean heavily into the "swashbuckling-WW2-pacific-theater-in-space" angle that has been there since the start. Yeah, the arcing looks stupid and yeah it's further than even Lucas went with that idea back in the day, but if you think it hasn't been there from the start, you're not paying attention. "Space" in Star Wars has always seemed to have some mass to it (aether? air? Idk). Right from the start of the very first movie we see fighters flying around strictly obeying laws of aerodynamics as if they are flying in air. We see creatures surviving there. We see "fighters" being inherently faster than "ships" (that is ships except for the Falcon, which seems to get fighter rules). Funnny enough, TLJ is the first time I've seen fighters _not_ obey the laws of aerodynamics in space in a Star Wars film; when, with a sliding 360, Poe takes out TIEs over the dreadnought at the start of the film.

Man that intro, Bladerunners “tears of rain” scene is an actual emotional scene, in a weird way everyone can related to it. Because one day all our memories will be lost… like tears in rain.
