Him talking about Sarah is a good thing. It shows that he's not projecting, but rather making a clear distinction between the two girls. He sees them as different people. Ellie is not a replacement or someone he projected on. They have a genuine bond that is different than what he had with Sarah. Edit: yeah, you came to the same conclusion lol. Good 👍🏽
@alexs1640
@alexs1640 Жыл бұрын
I can chalk it up to him being weird about doing this, he's been so closed off that he doesn't know how to talk about this stuff properly. But at the time, it definitely felt like he was projecting Sarah onto Ellie. Him saying that he wasn't comparing struck me at the time as something someone says to recover cause they know what they said was weird. So basically he was catching himself saying they were similar and trying to lessen the strangeness of a comment like that, projecting your dead daughter onto your surrogate daughter.

makes sense. that wasn't just a white lie, it was a HUGE fate-of-the-world lie. and a TON of ppl died because of it, which means the ppl that have lost friends or family in that massacre are gonna be coming for them. yeah it just wasn't the right move to outright lie about everything. i mean it's not like ellie's never gonna find out - all it'll take is just some small convos and she'll know if ppl are still trying to find a cure. that's what the second game does nicely - it shows not only her coming-of-age, but also the emotional repercussions of what he did.

It actually makes sense that Anna was bitten only a few seconds before she cut the umbilical chord, bc when someone gives birth and is experiencing active contractions, their body is rushing last-minute nutrients, hormones, and whatever else the baby's body might need to survive before the chord is cut. So the infection in the bite, being in the leg which is very close to the chord, would rush through to the baby much faster than normal. So any longer than a few seconds and Ellie might've not become immune but just infected, like Anna.

This moral dilemma was invented by the Russian writer F.M.Dostoevsky in his book "The Brothers Karamazov" (the Miller brothers). It sounded something like this: "Even the happiness of the whole world is not worth one tear on the cheek of an innocent child" There is no dilemma with a cart here, since we were shown that in Kansas City the military can quite destroy all zombies... they just don't want to lose power. That's why Fireflies fight them.

I liked that there were so many events foreshadowing the story beats, especially the ending. Like Bill's note talking about protecting those you care for "and God help any motherfuckers who get in our way." Or in Episode 2, the mycologist recommends bombing Jakarta "and everyone in it" (about 9 million people, so millions of "Ellies" dying for the greater good), and then she says she wants to go home to die with her family, presumably including her own children and perhaps grandkids, whom apparently she's willing to sacrifice.

Great reaction. I especially like the part where all you girls agreed that it was OK that he killed all those people to save Ellie but the really really bad thing he did was tell a lie. That’s kind of funny. My perspective is that she is underage and he was her guardian. Even if she had agreed to it, at age 14 she is too young to make that decision without his permission. So all the people he killed was justifiable homicide in the rescue of his “daughter” against people that were trying to murder her for medical research purposes.

I don't think it's because Anna was bitten that the Cordyceps behaved differently in Ellie. Given the time it takes to spread to reach the brain. This is me postulating. It's because the knife used to cut the cord had just been in a fully infected head. My hypothesis will likely never be proven, and may in fact be wrong. But the cordyceps would behave differently once it had control, which makes me believe it has changed states, and what entered the umbilical cord had already undergone that state change. Again. I could be completely wrong. (I am not a mycologist, biologist, zoologist) 8:50-8:55 "How the heck did she see that from where she was?" Best guess she saw a leg or the body pass a window, light passes through those tarps, and they're not exactly fully secured, so one might have 'flapped open' for her to see part of the giraffe, and she wanted to get a better view before it 'disappeared' "Our doctor thinks..." That to me is not grounds to do something that will irrevocably take your 1 _hopeful_ shot off the table. The doctor *thinks* this is the case, so take it out of her brain and *try* to reproduce your one sample in a lab. You know how hard it is to lab grow something successfully on the first attempt, with a state of the art, fully functional lab? I'm pretty confident they don't have such a lab. 15:42 Joel [Morgan Jones: "Clear" Mode] 17:14-17:16 Doctor makes a bad call 17:17 I think you're going to need a new doctor. 18:15-18:20 Yes, Ellie likely would choose to save others. But look back at what we know 1. They chose not to tell Ellie "This will kill you." 2. They did not disclose to her, "Our doctor _thinks_ this" 3. As I mentioned also above, the plan is a one shot chance with low likelihood of success. 4. They fail, there won't be any do overs. There are a couple of ways I take that "Okay" from Ellie in the end. Either, she trusts that when Joel swears, it must be true; or she knows it isn't true, but if that is what Joel needs to tell himself, she's got too much of herself invested in him to contradict, and she won't ask again. When the game ended as it did, the creators didn't know it would be the huge success it became. They stressed to put out the DLC to keep it in players' minds, then produced the second game. (as I recall. I think the entire DLC has been covered in the first season, but I could be misremembering.)

The crazy part is that the Fireflies totally brought that on themselves. The smart play would have been to guilt-trip Ellie about sacrificing herself to "save the world" while Joel was out. Then let Ellie convince Joel that she understood and accepted what had to happen and it was her choice and he needed to accept it. Then they could have said their goodbyes. Joel would be devastated and would have argued, but he'd ultimately respect her wishes. Instead, they rushed Ellie into surgery, didn't give her a choice, refused to let Joel say goodbye to her, and basically told him "yeah we're going to kill her, and if you don't gtfo, we'll kill you too." Of course he wasn't going to be like, "aw shucks okay then." They were the architect of their own destruction.

Yeah, Mazin pretty much said the same thing as well. That Ellie can't fathom the actual truth because it would mean someone she cares for betrayed her. These three young women have been truly great reactors. to this phenomenal series. Many reactors and commenters, including the clever young lady here with the pretty dark braids, simply characterize Joel's dilemma a the classic 'trolley problem.' While it technically IS the trolley problem... it's not JUST opting to sacrifice one to save many... rather, it cleverly poses two complicated questions, that when combined, forms a fundamentally unanswerable human-defining paradox: 1. "Do the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few, the one?" - and - 2. Regarding 'parental love,' what would you do (do too much) to protect your child... in evaluating the worth of YOUR ONE against ANY OTHERS?" Of course the 'trolley' situation in Episode 9 holds many more complications; Marlene's belief in the potential cure over her commitment to Anna... the Firefly doctor whose all-or-nothing impatience at sacrificing his only test subject may, or may not prove the right thing to do... Joel's belief that his second chance would be vindicated only by saving the second daughter that has now graced his life, saving him... and Ellie, whose seemingly best life's purpose was her own death on that surgical table in Salt Lake... which would likely have been her decision, if she was given the choice - or not. We'll never know. All of which serves to make TLOU the story-telling masterpiece that it is! At this point, I've literally seen dozens and dozens of TLOU Ep. 9-Finale reactions from gamers, non-gamers, young women who cried, burley old men who cried, (and me, I cried too), those who've called Joel a traitor to the human race... and others (mostly parents) who supported Joel's actions 100%. My favorite Ep. 9 reaction to date, is from the 'Kelsea’s Comments' Patreon/YT channel. Kelsea is a young mother whose take was decidedly (and emotionally) for Joel (again like our friend here with the dark hair who is kinda crushing on 'ol Pedro) . Kelsea concentrated on Ellie... opining "it's not fair... NO CHILD should make THE SELF-SACRIFICE decision... and in fact, Joel SHOULD HAVE lied... and only tell Ellie the truth after she becomes as adult... when Ellie can then 'maturely' decide... all of the fates. For myself... I'm left back somewhere within the two question paradox. I can't say what's right, what's wrong... a new chance for humanity, or a world that still has our beloved Ellie in it... was Sam's life more valuable than Micheal's... was Frank right to decide to leave Bill... was Bill right to join Frank... can Joel ever be completely free from his actions in Salt Lake... can Ellie ever be free from Joel's actions and broken trust? And finally, can I ever be satisfied with where I've been left, until I can see TLOU Season 2? I don't think so... I've loved this show too much even as it's left too much of that hole in me. Again, Thank You Ladies for a fantastic reaction to TLOU!

This dilemma was invented by F.M. Dostoevsky in his book "The Brothers Karamazov". And he himself solved it like this: "Even the happiness of the whole world is not worth one tear on the cheek of an innocent child." From myself: the military from Kansas City coped with the cleaning of the city from the infected. So, the fact that they did not clean up the USA entirely is due to their retention of power (as Bill said - "the Nazi government")

Not sure if this was mentioned in 164 comments, and it's not my suggestion- I heard it somewhere. But it's not the bite. It's the stabbing into the infected with the knife. Knife not cleaned. Cut the umbilical cord. Sorry if it's already said.

Hello Girls. Nice Reaction. Thank You. The fact is: The doctor could have saved the rest of humanity. But Ellie would have died. The producer asked 100 couples of parents how they had decided. EVERYONE would have reacted like Joel and saved Ellie. but that Joel had lied to Ellie is shit. But Marlene was also shit to Ellie, because she doesn't tell her anything, etc. In the end, Ellie believes Joel's words. Season 2 will air in several seasons, as there is much more to tell. I think what Molly is getting at around 20 mins in this video is that Joel is already putting an insane amount of pressure on Ellie when he tells her about how he tried to kill himself and that it wasn't time that healed the wounds. That is A LOT to put on someone, especially a child. He basically tells her that without her she would kill himself. This goes even further during the hike when Joel is, now not even subtly, saying things that suggest Ellie is Sarah's replacement. Its just a lot to put on someone. The creators of the show have spoken frequently about how TLOU is essentially about love, the good parts of love and the bad parts. Love makes us do great things but also terrible things. No wonder they spoke so frequently about this because that theme is overwhelmingly present in the series and especially the finale. Love the reactions as always guys, by far the most down to earth and real react channel out there.

Are you ever gonna finish "The Boys"? you only have 4 episodes left. And also are you planning to react to the spinoff "Gen V" (which I believe is short for "Generation Vought") College age students training at a school of Supes. "The Boys" spoofed version of "The Xmen."

naughty dog still has to produce a third game either before or during the production of the second season. druckmann himself said he didn't want to run into a GoT problem where the show outpaced the source material and they end up with shitty episodes.

It's actually not the trolley problem, but that's too long of a discussion to have lol It comes down to this; sacrifice has to be voluntary. That is what makes sacrifice, sacrifice - it's what gives it weight and meaning. Regardless of what Marlene or Joel thinks Ellie would choose, no one asked her, and it could be possible that Ellie, to the surprise of everyone, decided to say no. That possibility was too great a risk for Marlene, which is why she lied to Ellie, told her nothing about the surgery, and removed her capacity to make a choice by sedating her. Joel's selfish reasons aside, it is still the case that his actions are justified. No life is worth anymore or less than another. It doesn't matter if it's one life weighed against one life, or one life weighed against all others. The scales will remain equal. If cancer could be cured by killing on person but they refused to be sacrificed, it looks like cancer is here to stay. Forcing sacrifice on someone who doesn't want it, or hasn't been given the opportunity to chose, is morally reprehensible, no matter the reason. No one deserves to live more than anyone else nor does anyone deserve to die more than anyone else. Removing Ellie's capacity to make the choice herself is saying that because she has the potential to be the cure, she deserves to die more than anyone else, and everyone else deserves to live more than her. A world that would force sacrifice on someone does not deserve the benefits that would result from that sacrifice. Joel understands this, regardless of whether or not he made the choice for selfish reasons. It doesn't change the fact that he ended up doing the morally righteous thing anyways. Now Joel tells Marlene it's not for her to decide, to which Marlene ripostes that same sentiment back to him. But Joel didn't decide for Ellie, in fact he couldn't, because it was not his decision to take. It was already taken from Ellie, by Marlene. Joel's actions were merely in response to the fireflies' choices. Joel absolutely could have and would have removed Ellie from the situation until she was capable of being asked about what she wants to do. It was only because the fireflies refused to grant that opportunity, that forces the circumstance where Ellie's choice is null since everyone is now dead. It's also worth pointing out that a cure doesn't cure the Infected or magically get rid of raiders. Once a good portion of your insides have been replaced by fungus, a cure isn't gonna do anything, so it wouldn't evaporate the chance of Ellie "getting torn apart by Infected." It also doesn't get rid of raiders. Making the cure, mass producing is, distributing it, will take A LOT of time. Years. During that time raiders and slavers and what not will still exist. Even still, some might refuse a cure, some might think it's a lie or trick, and some may still yet just shoot any outsiders they see on sight. So it doesn't evaporate the chance of Ellie "being murdered by raiders" either. So, no, Joel couldn't have "saved the world" because the cure isn't a salvation. First of all whether or not it would work hadn't been determined, so it might be that Ellie would die for literally nothing. Then even if it is successful, it's not going to magically save the world and revert everything back to the way it was.

Marlene decided to murder Ellie without giving her a choice. Everything after that was a chain reaction. Marlene was the instigator in all of it. Joel's reaction was pretty much automatic - Marlene gave him no choice but to save her from being murdered.

Ellie had a choice throughout this entire series. She had a choice on that balcony when Joel said instead of taking the risk they could just head back to Jackson, and she choose to continue on, so if anyone she's the instigator of it. She's continually chosen to risk her life to get to the Fireflies, she would absolutely sacrifice it. Both Joel and Marlene know that, and while neither give her the choice, at least Marlene is doing what Ellie would want. Joel is putting his own emotional needs before the fate of all humanity _and_ Ellie's wishes.
@MrPicklerwoof
@MrPicklerwoof Жыл бұрын
@@Fangtorn No, Ellie went all that way to the Fireflies thinking they just needed to draw her blood and run tests. She mentions this explicitly to Joel earlier on, plus just hours before Marlene decides to murder her Ellie had explicitly told Joel she would go back with him and follow him anywhere after the Fireflies had finished. Regardless of whether Ellie might have agreed to sacrifice herself, we already know neither of them had any idea that would actually be necessary. One decided to murder her, one decided to save her from being murdered. Sure, as an indirect consequence of that, Joel effectively takes that choice from her. But that was always going to be the case after Marlene's decision. In terms of the incident at the hospital itself, Marlene was the instigator. She kicked off the whole thing by losing her humanity towards Ellie.
@Fangtorn
@Fangtorn Жыл бұрын
@@MrPicklerwoof Yes, they make plans for the future because they don't know a cure would cost Ellie life, but reaching the Fireflies is more important to Ellie than those plans. Joel gives her the option of just returning to Tommy's explicitly to avoid the dangers they always seem to encounter searching for the Fireflies and Ellie explicitly rejects that idea. They don't know a cure will kill Ellie, but they know they could die trying to find the Fireflies, and Ellie accepts that risk. If she's willing to die for a _chance_ of reaching the Fireflies, because her immunity meaning something means that much to her, of course she would sacrifice herself for the chance of a cure.

The vaccine's efficacy, success rate, potential distribution issues down the line etc is NOT why Joel does what he does. He simply does not want Ellie to die. That is it. He could give a shit about all that. Seen too many people being these irrelevant things up. And more often than not it just comes off as a way to let Joel off the hook, undermined the weight of his choice, and feel better about liking the character. And it kinda feels like being presented with the trolley problem and going, "well I would simply call the train station and tell them to stop the trains" lol. It's called the trolley PROBLEM for a reason... There are supposed to be no easy or definitive answers. I fully side with Joel, I just don't dilute the situation, is all. He shouldn't have lied to Ellie, tho. But I get why he did it. The entire situation is full of people making flawed yet understandable decisions.
