Any good Disney story begins with Michael Eisner. Eisner being both the alpha and omega, the yin and yang, the Splash Mountain and the Superstar Limo.

I miss the old DCA It holds a special place in my heart for not only being a fun place but it introduced me to the Disney parks, and if it weren’t for this park and it’s neighbor Disneyland park I wouldn’t be into the Disney parks nowadays I’ve only been to Disneyland in California but that’s about to change because in February for my high school graduation I’m going to disneyworld

I think it's definitely improved since opening day. It was kitschy California at first, a cheap knockoff. Now it's a sort of homage to the National Parks and culture of California. Aside from Cars Land and Avengers Campus, of course.

As a native Californian who grew up in the parks, I’m kinda glad they’re phasing our the kitschy California-themed stuff. Cars Land was a perfect addition because it’s very California-esque without looking or feeling cheap like the rest of the park did for a while in the beginning. I am still nostalgic for all the kitschy-ness, don’t get me wrong, but I think it was time to move forward lol. I agree that the Grizzly Peak area is the most peaceful area in both parks and it’s a great spot to rest a bit when I feel overwhelmed by the crowds and noise :)

When I still had an Annual Pass, my kids would go on that ride repeatedly when the lines were short. It didn't matter to them if it was towards evening and the sun had set or was setting and it had cooled off. They'd get on, with my wife and I along with them, then we'd get off and my kids would get right back in line, sometimes, if it was slow enough, they wouldn't even have to get off the raft to ride again.

It sounds like one of those stories that have changed hands so many times and gone through so many revisions over the years that whatever really happened has been lost to the pages of history. I prefer the Native American/National Park version because I love legends of Native American culture, the best in my area being the Sleeping Giant in Connecticut.
@ghostchaser1631
@ghostchaser1631 4 жыл бұрын
Ah, I was hoping that somone would ask because I would be happy to. Note: This is a legend of the Quinnipiac tribe and after doing some pretty extensive research the following is the best, and hopefully most accurate, version I have found. According to the Quinnipiac tribe "Hobbomock", as the giant was called, was a good natured and very helpful protector, sort of a giant stone gollum. He taught the people of the tribe how to take care of the land and water and how to commune with nature. As time passed however, the tribe members began to forget how to communicate with the animals and this ability began to fade. This made Hobbomock unhappy, even angry, at his peoples' neglect of their ancestoral abilities, and one day he blew off some of that steam by stomping his foot near the area that's known today as Middletown. The impact of his foot into the Earth caused the nearby river, known today as the Connecticut River, to change direction. Seeing the threat that Hobbomock now posed to the humans the good spirit Keihtan, who was probably equally as disappointed with Hobbomock now, cast a spell on him, putting him to sleep forever and terraforming him into a granite and basalt mountain just to make sure he stays asleep. The mountain is known today as both the Sleeping Giant and Mount Carmel and is located in the town of Hamden. The Connecticut River flows south towards Long Island Sound and at the giant it curls around the top of his "head". There is a stone lookout tower at the summit (his "chest") that was built in 1936 and the area was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 4th, 1986. It now operates as a state park and yes, you can hike up the mountain. Just be careful, be respectful to the nature of the area, remember to pack the most essential gear and above all, try to tread lightly so as not to wake Hobbomock from his slumber. 😉 The best part (for me anyway) is that I live right across the Sound from Hobbomock on the north shore of Long Island so I have a clear view of him every day. Pretty sweet! 🙂

Walt Disney Loved Bears which is why there was Humphrey the Bear Episodes that Donald Duck starred in, Also we had Winnie The Pooh, Country Bears Jamboree, and Balloo from The Jungle Book, it was very Disappointing when they Rethemed Country Bears Jamboree as Winnie The Pooh Attraction, there is really no reason why they couldn't have at least made room for our Favorite Pooh Bear and leave Country Bears Jamboree Alone, this is an Amazing KZbin Film! Tower of terror (DCA , WDSP) Also take place in the SEA which also means the whole of DCA 2.0 apart from cars land also takes place in this universe. In DCA and WDSP the Walt Disney company is regularly mentioned as existing. This also means the Paris version of rock n rollercoaster and studio tram tour take place in this universe (although they are both defunct attractions now) although the DCA version of the tower is gone. This means that only the paris tower can take place here. What's interesting with Paris is that one of the scenarios in the service elevator shaft contains the laughter of shiriki utundu. How did he get into the hotel? it is likely that sometime after 1912 the hotel Hightower unfortunately was demolished with some of the items found inside being donated or bought off by other wealthy people. The Hollywood tower hotel's architect (Theodore Faller) likely took inspiration from the past designs of Harrison Hightower to design his own hotel (T shaped wings on the top of the building)

@whutzat

It was! Im so disappointed he didn't talk about that. The original "peak" was carved into a howling wolf, and after the work was done, somebody pointed out to Eisner the awkward truth that wolves had been gone from California since the 1920's. So since it was ALSO pointed out that the BEAR is what is on the state flag, and is STILL extremely widespread and plentiful in California, they went through the expense, time, and trouble to have it re-sculpted into a BEAR before opening day. Shoddy research, Offhand Disney.

And the whole video I only had one question: *Does it connect to Grizzly Gulch in Hong Kong?* I mean the two stories can match up... kind of? I mean Grizzly Gulch is set in a Northern California Mining Town. Maybe the government allowed Bro Guy Person to use it as a sports area but then he abused and started damaging some stuff then the US Government just took it back and made it into a National Recreational area but who knows. I just really really want it to be connected to S.E.A. Since it’s a Disney Park Original Ride after all.

I remember a lot of cast members that decided to make the jump to the new park regretting it because of all the cringy crap around that park. The new-old Los Angeles version is much better. Its hard for tourist to see the real classic Los Angeles in the vast sprawl but its there if you look hard enough and Disney did a good job at recreating it. There's pockets of oldtown suburbs around LA county as well that have the classic buildings but sadly many have fallen into disrepair.

I like Grizzly Peak as an area, it’s does give me Disney-fied outdoors vibes. I enjoy the river run and my favorite part is the photo spot near the peak. I was so excited when they asked me to do the “look at this spot and act surprised” thing and told me they’d photoshop in the cub from Brother Bear, because I taught in rural Alaska and my kids were INTO that movie. Sadly it was singlehandedly the ugliest picture of my trip so I couldn’t share it. I don’t even understand how the photographer let that one go on to the PhotoPass people.

I think both timelines could be intertwined. Start with timeline 2 up till the 1950s. Then jump a head to time line 1 where Bumper McFaren (spelling?) started his rafting company in 1987 where we can expand on Bumper's background. Bruce "Bumper" McFaren was born in Long Beach, California in 1960 and attended UCLA where he graduated with a masters in Business in 1982. However he felt he wasn't quite ready for life behind a desk in a sky scraping office building and instead became professional surfer where he made millions of dollars. He retired from surfing in 1986 after a near death experience during an international surfing competition in Baja California, Mexico and began looking for something else to do. He first ran a surfing store in the San Diego area that lasted for only a year before going out of business. While on a camping trip to Grizzly Peak with some friends in 1987, Bumper fell in love with the area and seeing that there was money to be made in the fledgling white water rafting tour market. Bumper soon staked his claim in the business and bought the old mining buildings as his base of operations. The business was a huge success, In 2012 Bumper sold his business and moved with his wife, a former beach volleyball player and youngest kids ( 2 were already in college) to Thunder Mesa where he bought the abandoned Big Thunder Mountain gold mine and rehabbed it and reopened as a tourist attraction and show case for a wild west theme park called " Wild West Adventure at Big Thunder Mountain" or simply "Wild West Adventure" for short.

As a Californian who grew up going to DCA, I loved the california aesthetic. California is nothing like DCA, so going there always felt like I was getting the CA experience I was supposed to get growing up. Also, I like Buena vista street... but I miss hearing that beach boys music whenever I came in. Also grizzly peak will always ge my favorite disney park area, especially the brother bear section.

As someone who didn't grow up in California, I always really loved the California Theme during the handful of times I went there. But I totally get why most people didn't like it, being that they're mostly California residents. I think the new look of the park is pretty good and appeals to a wider audience.

Yay I’ve been wondering when your next video would be. I was spoiled last month when I first discovered your channel cause I binged every single video lol. I was instantly hooked, so it only took a couple weeks. I was left wanting more. Your channel is definitely one of my top favorite Disney channels! Ps. Aww with spooky season coming up I’m sure going to miss your Haunted Mansion videos at the park. 😔 Do you have any other Halloween themed videos planned?

A suggestion for a future show: Disney in the 90 did a huge celebration in Goderich Ontario Canada. Walt and Goderich have a history as Walt visited the town and the town square looks awfully familiar to a certain theme park. Plus the family history there. Etc... You can see videos of the Wald Disney World parade that went through this town on KZbin. A forgotten history...

I wonder if Grizzly Peak in DCA is related to Grizzly Gulch in Hong Kong, as they are both bear-shaped mountains and with mining operations with a history in the great alpine west

I've never been to DCA, but the Grizzly Peak area seems so cool. I really hope it's not lost anytime soon. It seems as if DCA's golden era was in the mid 2010s.

I often listen to the Grizzly River Run safety schpeel just to feel something... but in all seriousness, I think a National Park Themed land is a great non-IP based land for a Disney park. It is so under rated.
