The sad part of this is that Lego movie 2 is actually really good. Talking about the balance between optimism and realism, and being open to others. Emmett is the young childlike side and Rex is his adult cynicism. Them getting together and letting his sister play with them was a sign of him becoming more mature, allowing his childlike side to stay alive in some way even as he ages. He created the time travel thing. He even says so to his sister, so again it is still just all in his head.

Wow, I didn't realize this one didn't do very well financially, I just kind of assumed it did as well or better than the first. The standard rule is that your gross has to be twice your budget to make a profit and it reached that if only barely so I guess they were hurting, and I imagine they still sold plenty of lego off the back of it, which was the whole point in the first place.

I think the issue with the movie is that unlike the others, it didn't really have any of the "make belief" elements from the other movies. Basically it didn't felt like/needed to be a lego movie. Though in a way I guess it's fine In a way.
