The Omnissiah is not the same as the machine god. It is the emissary of the machine god. The emperor is the omnissiah, and the machine god is the ctan in mars.

A good way to think of it is to compare with the holy trinity: The void dragon is the father, The emperor is the son The machine god is the holy ghost Or similar. The big thing is that big E is essentially machine god Jesus

One correction, the Machine God isn’t the Omnissiah, rather the cult mechanicus believes in a three-faceted godhead similar to the Christian belief in the trinity (God the father, God the son, God the Holy Spirit). In their religion, the equivalents are the Machine God is the father, the Omnissiah is the son (whom they conveniently say is the Emperor) and the Motive Force (essentially electricity) is the Holy Spirit.

So basically: The adeptus mechanicus, the religious technological faction of the imperium responsible for producing imperial tech and weapons, believe in the Omnissiah, their God of technology. This belief clashed with the Emperor's plans of making a secular imperium so he made a compromise and convinced the mechanicus that he is their omnissiah. However no one for sure knows who the omnissiah actually is. Some believe it's the Emperor. Others believe that he's just its avatar. There is also evidence that the omnissiah might be the cyan shard that supposedly lies beneath Mars. However this is complicated by how supposedly the Emperor slain something and sealed it within Mars but it's never said that he destroyed and sealed a ctan shard in Mars.

I think the Emperor imprisoned the Void Dragon on Mars knowing that the Mechanicus would develop. He knew he would need them in the future and knew he would be able to exploit their religious belief.

There's an ongoing debate as whether or not that Emperor is the omnissiah. Sure he's not the void dragon and the void dragon is the reason why the mechanicus are so smart, but at the same time the Emperor is the one who imprisoned the void dragon beneath Mars with the sole intent to make the would be martians smarter so either way you look at it the machine god wouldn't be there if not for the Emperor

Machine god /= Omnissiah. The Machine God is the Machine God, obviously. The Omnissiah is the manifestation of the Machine God, presenting itself in all machines, in the form of the machine spirit and the motive force. Some of the Cult Mechanicus believe that the God-Emperor, being the genius he is, is the prophet of the Machine God, almost the Omnissiah, but not quite.

way i see it; the machine god permeates in all divine machines of humanity, that being the machine spirits. the omnissiah would be like a lesser deity of the machine god, somewhat like the usual jesus is to regular god. the god emperor is entirely separate to the machine god and the omnissiah in my belief, or at least the belief of my homebrew forgeworld
