The Marx Brothers were damn clever and ingenious for most people. There are no comedians alive today this sharp and creative. Even Laurel and Hardy, and Abbott and Costello had moments of genius. The Marx Brothers took time and patience to devise their material. Most of today's comedians resort to vulgar routines & shock value. This is why the Marx Brothers have lasted as few others have. I admire their work.

@@TheLocoUnion - "Who's On First" isn't clever? It's in the Baseball Hall of Fame. The only thing in that Hall that is not by a baseball player. (Though Costello held the record in NJ for sinking the most free throw basketballs in a row back in his youth. He was an exceptional basketball player). The routine where Abbott wants to borrow some money from Costello & makes Costello believe he owes Abbott the money? Ingenious dialogue. The "Oh Chuck" routine in "Hold That Ghost" with the candles moving on the table. The routine where Costello makes his voice go higher when speaking as he hears Abbott say "go higher" when Abbott is actually cueing the man raising the stage curtain behind Costello? This routine was picked up (ripped off?) by the TV show "Taxi" in the 70s when Jim was trying to pass a driver's test & asked, "What does the yellow light mean?" And his friends say "Slow down." Jim says the line again each time slower & slower. That's A&C comedy, not "Taxi." Maybe they did credit them at the end of the show I did not see it. There are many others. Sorry, I'm responding so late I was never alerted to your response...my response is not being sarcastic.

I agree with you wholeheartedly my friend. I should have emphasized the word “MOMENTS” in my comment. I believe that Abbott and Costello are complete geniuses and not just “moments”. Thank you for your wonderful statements on these two great men! 😁

I used to play pinochle back in the day. I believe that's what they were playing. You send bids across to your partner to see who want's the bid. He said ONE which means he has 100 points to send with aces. In a pinochle deck (48)you have 4 of every card from A's down to 9's but some folks play with out the 9's From A's to 10's. He could have anywhere from 4 up to 16 aces. 4 ace hearts, 4 ace spades and so on.

@@amjoshuaf. One of the things I remember reading about Chico Marx is that he supposedly was brilliant at mathematics. Such a shame that he couldn't manage his finances, because Groucho and Harpo had to control Chico's spending so that he wouldn't go broke. Chico blew so much money on gambling that Groucho and Harpo had to put Chico on a strict allowance in his later years. Groucho once told a story about Chico stating that Chico owed a lot of money to a gangster from a gambling debt and that when Chico died he had an unsent check in his pocket that he was going to give or mail to the gangster, but Groucho said that Chico was extremely lucky that he never sent that check because it would have bounced!

I might be the only primate on Earth who has laughed so hard it turned to crying for some inexplicable reason, but this scene did it a few times over the last 6 decades :) :) Can't imagine how Margaret and stage crew didn't lose all composure over their silliness; I'd be out of commission gasping for air, begging them to cease and desist :) This video's quality and the time it's been among the archives of YT....... is it true that KZbin periodically checks "last date of access" and if over a certain threshold the video is compressed to maintain and conserve storage space...... doing this again and again and again yields the very "quality" seen here?
