Would be interesting to see some outside camerawork, especially on shoots of hypercars like this one, the Rimac Neverra and the Plaid to get a bit more context on the acceleration. I'm looking out the window when you punch it, and obviously you are being pushed into your seat, but it would be cool to have maybe at least a couple cameras recording the start and end of your acceleration test.

Loved this review! Doug's enthusiasm is infectious. The only thing I would disagree with is the rating for styling being lower than the Bugatti Chiron. I think the Speedtail is far more stylish, but that's a personal thing.

I was talking to one of the engineering team for the Speedtail, they explained the paint that covers the flexible rear spoilers cost hundreds of thousands to develop because normal paint would just crack and become discoloured. Amazing.

Receivers on the bottom of the lower suspension arms or something? I suppose what i mean is with something as low and flat as the speedtail i feel like it could be incorporated into the car without a problem. Some tray that sits under the battery tray on the floor. I got to see the Speedtail recently amongst several other new McLaren models and I did not expect it to be my favorite of the lot but it was, by far. The side profile is always the shot that gets shared the most but the front and rear of the car are absolutely spectacular.

A mistake in this video: the tool kit is not solid gold, as some KZbinrs have reported. The tools are titanium. They may be good plated but the coating looks like titanium nitride to me. 12:47 Gold is very soft, very weak, and very dense. The titanium material is according to road and track.

Triple F collection must have had some really good ties with McLaren to not just get one of these, but the xp3 prototype. You can see a Gordon Murray influence on this car. Especially with the tuned induction noise above the driver and all the lightweight materials and toolkit.

@@lddutra Not exactly futuristic, rear wheel covers were used a lot on the late 80s racing for aero. Not bringing 50s cars here because those didn't need to cool down brakes, unlike Group C cars (Jaguar XJR-9 for example).

As you can see there is no cup holder, which is another reason it can't be legally sold in the US. Instead, McLaren has a button under the drive pedal you access by first throwing a special hawaiian lava rock at a button located in the bottom right corner of the break pedal. Doing so releases an endangered animal that will be sent over to the driver via drone to give you a drink. Endangered species and type of drink varies depending on which package you choose.

I personally think the reason they do so, is because they want to get it as perfect as possible for the true special car. They don't need a V10 or W16 to get high speeds. I do want to see McLaren make a V12 though. I feel like they would kill it and possibly make one of the single most powerful cars out there. Maybe its in one of the secret production lines we won't see for a bit

Don't know why they wouldn't have an option for the reverse cam to be sent to the media screen as a rear view, tap the screen and media options come up, after 10s the cam returns. 15 years ago I did a project at college for chromatic glass visors, cool to actually see them implemented.

Gold is the perfect heat deflector and this is why it was used in the F1engine bay. There is no way Gordon Murray would have allowed solid gold tools due to the weight penalty. The actual tools were made of titanium with a titanium nitride coating so they looked gold.

Gold is soft, you wouldn't make tools out of it. The tools are most likely a carbide alloy or titanium if they want to save weight.

I went to the exotic car dealership (one where Vinwiki's owner: Ed Bolian used to work in Atlanta, I saw one of these speedtails (purple in color) on display next to a few P1's and Sennas, and had no idea how special it was lol. I wish I could go back and appreciate it more!!!

That's the problem... it's doesn't look special enough. IMO the two best looking McLaren in the modern age is the P1 series x and the 765lt most of the rest are kind of meh while still technically brilliant.

I think the Speedtail is the coolest and most special of all modern McLarens, and feels like the true successor to the F1 especially with the 3 seat configuration (as others have said the driver + 2 models). I would take off those front wheel aero covers though.
