the thing that frustrates me the most about this spider-man is that the villains he's faced so far have more beef and history with tony stark than they do with him. It completely takes away the aspect that makes so much spider-man villains so interesting; their relation to peter parker.

I do understand your point about the Tony stark villains and respect it, I personally see it differently With the vulture, although Tony is the reason he loses his job, toomes never really hates stark and doesn’t really want anything to do with him, he uses stark and his wealth as an excuse to justify selling weapons in a sorta “where’s mine” behaviour, he is clearly living comfortably in a huge house in New York but because others are wealthier than him in general he vilifies them so that he is in the right in his own mind With mysterio, he’s definitely a villain because of stark but I also feel he’s similar in the way that he is spiteful against the world for idolising superheroes and not him, I definitely think that his team shouldn’t of also been stark employees though because that bar scene is what ties him so close to stark
@d4nnylaflame8963 жыл бұрын
It’s comments like this that show me that you don’t understand Spider-Man nor the comics, the villains in the comics don’t start off beefing with Spider-Man, they end up beefing with him because spidey is the only one around TO stop them. It’s the same thing with MCU spidey, only difference is that this is the first time spidey is in movies with other heroes so they try to show that. Mysterio being a former stark employee was a great twist and while he does hate tony he also definitely hates Spider-Man and wants to kill him.

For me it's how Disney erased Peter's working class background - his class struggles pretty much shape him as a character, from how he tries to provide for his aunt and himself and how he relates to his community MCU Spider-Man is now an heir to a billionaire's tech company, and even before that he seemed pretty well-off, in Far from Home the issues Tony's workers faced weren't really addressed at the end Disney's always been pretty bad at dealing with class issues tbh
@charlestaylorco87133 жыл бұрын
He is not an heir to his tech at all, all Tony gave him was the glasses, he doesn’t get any other money, as you can see in FFH, May and Peter are still living in a small apartment, not a big mansion and in the extended scene you see he sells his toys to get a gift for MJ. I think that’s the problem I have when people critique the new SM movies is because they blow up things like a final gift from Tony Stark into being more than it is.

@okand67706 ай бұрын
@isaacthegoat1432 Peter telling MJ they can't be together(again) means he had to re-learn that he can't be with her. Being with spiderman will hurt the other more than it would if they weren't with him. To protect the one he loves he can't get what he wants in the end. He has the power to do it but it is his responsibility to make sure that he is doing the right thing. If you think about it, that's the same lesson he learned in the end of the first movie but they butchered it in 2 by having MJ be like, "I don't care I will do whatever it takes." Which is a contradiction because she ends up getting jealous of Peter for being Spiderman in 3.

Old Spider-Man was a lone wolf, he managed his own hardships, he was miserable, poor, and we could see him crying in every movie but MCU didn't understood this, MCU only saw it as profit, now the iron man fans are supporting new Spider-Man because they are MCU fans not Spider-Man fans, old one stood up after falling, no one was supporting at his back. Miles Morales, too, is an excellent Spiderman. But yeah Tom Holland (good actor, not his fault) isn't like that. And I guess I enjoyed his movies but they weren't the same. In other words, Garfield's and Maguire's Spidermen, as well as Miles Morales, are truly stars in their own Spidermen movies. Holland's Spiderman is a character in an Avengers movie that just happens to be about him. They also forget the most important thing about Spiderman: He is, truly, your friendly neighborhood Spiderman. He isn't the guy who travels around the world waving humanity. He doesn't have that luxury - he is the guy who is responsible for keeping NYC safe. Something goes down in NYC, and he's there. It doesn't need to be accurate I'm pretty sure the whole point of creating a bond with Tony was clear enough that they were doing something different with the character or idk maybe not having uncle Ben and making aunt may young lol, I'm all for a new take of the character that fits the MCU timeline. I hate that everyone shits on Tom's Spiderman for being the least comic accurate nobody can ever give actual criticism to the new take without it just being based on a fixated biase or a side by side comparison of comic Spiderman's character. Which btw comics change universes and character personalities and stories all the time it's unfair to hold the standard of a fixated continuity when the comics don't follow the same rule.

In my opinion the MCU Spider-Man movies feel more like palate cleansers, similar to the Antman films or even Captain Marvel. I think they should've treated Spidey like its own entity within the MCU, similar to the Guardians. Give his movies a more distinct style or feeling. HC & FFH to me just feel like MCU entries no. 16 & 23. The Guardians movies however actually feel distinct enough, like you're watching sth different in a way. The same goes for most of the phase 1 films, they each had their own unique style which is why it felt so special when those characters all shared the screen for the first time in Avengers or when the Guardians first interacted with the rest of the MCU in IW/Endgame. I also think it's not that smart to compare MCU Spidey with Raimi's Spidey that much as they're both different ages. I'd rather compare him with The Spectacular Spider-Man show which in my opinion is the perfect way to adapt a high school version of the character. The first 3 episodes alone give Peter more depth than the 2 MCU solo movies combined.
@dog84383 жыл бұрын
Very good example with GoTG. Those movies feel extremely distinct in the MCU and that's exactly what Spider-Man needs to be. Peter's stories are very much self contained but the MCU doesn't let them be.

6:35 No way home spoilers ahead That problem is fixed. Tom's spiderman has faced, I'd say, the biggest consequence of his actions out of all three spidermen. He lost his Aunt may, but he also lost all the friends he made. Not just Ned and MJ, but the Avengers don't remember either, not happy, not doctor strange, no one does. After all they been through together as a team in Infinity war and Endgame, it's all forgotten. When doctor strange said "Nice knowing you, spiderman" at the end of the movie, it hit hard. About the character development part, Doctor strange told him to not call him sir at the beginning, but when he messes up the spell he reverts back to it with the lines "After all we've been through, I forget you're just a kid" and "call me sir!" And near the end, when Spidey tells strange to cast the spell where everyone forgets about him, strange says "call me Steven". Acknowledging his maturity. That's emotional Also, the part about "everything handed over to him". It's true he didn't make the Stark suits that he uses, but it is also true that he earned them and proved his right to use them at the end of the first movie when he used his homemade suit to stop vulture. Tom's Spidey is a more naive portrayal of Spiderman than Tobey and Andrew's. Like an actual teen that is still mentally developing. He was a kid making mistakes and being careless in all those movies. But by the end of No way home, he did learn a lot. EDIT: And I'm really looking forward to next 3 spiderman movies of the character in MCU to see how the behavioural changes take effect on his future actions

And it was just for diversity brownie points, there’s no way anyone thought she was perfect to play MJ, the character is nothing like the comics and the same can be said for the actress. They went so far as to make MJ her nickname when her name isn’t even Mary Jane, it’s a bunch of bs. Zendaya is not Mary Jane Watson and is just another case if ginger discrimination, another ginger being black washed. People of different races and ethnicities are treated as if characters like them cannot work on their own and need the popularity of white characters to work, and that is 100% false and extremely racist. You are supporting racism when you think you’re supporting diversity, you are adding to the problem. Also Mary Jane Watson was fully white in the comics so it is race swapping.

I think this is one of the reaons why NWH is so loved. He's back to his roots. Aunt May and Tony Stark are his Uncle Ben. He is poor. The writers hate him again.
@pinec0ne3 жыл бұрын
I think that with NWH, we can look back at how Peter was really a fish-out-of-water character for the most part throughout all of the previous movies. He didn’t have all the answers, he barely knew what he was doing or what he wanted to do. Now that we got a hard reset, we can watch him try to learn from the past while building himself up. I also think that this story line gives a better “down on his luck” Peter story, where he was fighting god-like aliens with Tony Stark to struggling to pay rent and using low-tech gear again. I’m so excited!

Heyy nice video. I agree with a lot of the points you're making and it made me kinda want to give the amazing spiderman a shot. I'd say you could turn up the volume of your voice a bit though, its very low compared to the movie clips. I look forward to more of your videos~

If you think about it, the Spider-Man before No Way Home. Was just a kid. You’re right, he never had to face the consequences of his actions. I think the new movie was a great ‘coming of age’ moment for Spider-Man, and I think it’s helped him really come into his own character.

But today MCU took everything from Spiderman and made his lifestyle just like Andrew and Tobey Maguire
@MrDeykar3 жыл бұрын
People don't get that MCU Spidey was introduced as a highschooler. He's way younger than his other counter parts which go to college. The theme/lesson of homecoming was exactly to teach Peter that he can't just rely on the suit to do everything for him. MCU Peter has a character development arc through the entire trilogy, which ends now with no way home where he becomes the spiderman we know and love from the comics. The origin changed but the character is the same.

@@notAburner.promise Yes. I consider NWH on the same boat as Revenge of the Siths. Revenge of the Siths is a pretty good movie on its own, but it didn’t make The Phantom Menace nor Attack of the Clones any better.

After watching nwh i realised that the mcu knows exactly who spider-man is.. instead of getting a half hour origin story they gave us an origin trilogy to empathise way more with tom hollands spider-man. And i am thankful for this decision

In homecoming he was given everything and used it irresponsibly and learned to appreciate what he was given In far from home he was given even more and tried to give away his responsibility out of fear of that responsibility In no way home he had everything taken away from him and realises that despite that he still has his own power and that power came with the ultimate responsibility and at that point he became spiderman

@@Crackerhonkeykilla If you want the movies you’ve already had, why not watch those? That mindset is why we hardly get any new, original content these days. With Spider-Man they at least did the reboot in a different way: “What if Stark recruited young Peter and made him an Avenger?” That whole arc takes a few movies yea and now a new arc will come and I for one hope it will be yet another interpretation of the character and not just a retread of the basic “Peter goes to college” story

Completely agree with this video! Spiderman just doesn't feel the same as he does in every other Spiderman media, for all the reasons you mentioned. No Way Home did do a good thing basically removing his connection to the Avengers and Stark but to be honest I'm still not the biggest fan and I don't think it justified how they set him up in the first place. Another point I haven't seen many people mention (at least in this comments section) is how a lot of his story beats are actually very similar to Miles Morales' story. I'm not that familiar with the comics so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but from my understanding Miles was: thrown into a conflict that he wasn't ready for, is trying to live up to another superhero's legacy (Peter Parker Spiderman), attends a prestigous science academy and has an Asian best friend (who acts as his "guy in the chair"), have everyone in his circle know he's Spiderman and have his suit given to him by someone else. These are all pretty much the same thing that happens to MCU Peter. What I'm trying to say is that another reason why I don't like MCU Peter is because it isn't a Peter Parker story, the writers just took points from Miles' story and gave it to Peter. Maybe it was a coincidence who knows but the points are so similar it doesn't feel like it is. I do appreciate they were trying something new but it really feels like they just ripped off Miles' story instead of using the rich amount of material Peter has and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. A shame because I do think Tom Holland is a good Spiderman but his story and how they set him up really ruins it for me.

Tom holland would be great if they made him struggle to be Spiderman, we never see him struggle to stay in school and work a part time job and be Spider-Man at the same time, we never see him frustrated by being Spider-Man but still taking up the suit because he has to, we see small bits but they don't leave the impact of a struggling superhero teenager who does what he does because he can't just sit down a let people get hurt even if it ruins his life, that my friends is why tobeys Spider-Man was so loved, a real hero.
