Actually he catches the knife close to his head and merely extends his arm out to show the audience that he has the knife as if to take the speed out of it. A mixture of slight of hand and storytelling.

I'd agree with all of you guys if the camera didn't cut to him so late. The camera "catches" Frasier as his arm is fully extended, so it looks like he just caught it behind his head (which would honestly be more impressive but also less thrilling, and a lot more funny).

I’m gonna have to be that guy when I say this, I have nothing against the Scorpion King’s centaur form’s overall design. I like the whole concept behind it, with the corrupted veins, claws, etc. I’m a big fan of that idea on paper and as fan-made work that you see on the Internet. But, it was poorly rendered in the film. It looks like it was rushed. If ILM had more time actually animating it and rendering it, then it would’ve looked so much better.

It WAS rushed. It was supposed to be The Rock as he is in the first section of the movie, just with some scarred and withered skin on one side. However, Dwayne Johnson's performance was so utterly horrible and his physical performance looked like wrestling (surprise surprise) rather than a fight to the death that they rushed in a CGI team to get him out of the final scene.

I'm so glad you highlighted when Imhotep slides in to shout "No!" after Rick stabs the Scorpion King. XD It's one of my favourite moments in film because of the timing and how random it is haha. Despite its issues and rehashed elements, I still enjoy this film especially for the epic music from Alan Silvestri. Me and my sister used to watch this on VHS a lot.

Evelyn being a reincarnation is actually an element from the original Mummy from 1932 that they didn’t include in the 1999 remake. In the original, her equivalent was the reincarnation of Anck Su Namun. That’s why Imhotep wanted to sacrifice her. That makes no sense in the 1999 version because they don’t have that connection and he probably could’ve sacrificed anyone to resurrect Anck Su Namun, so why did it have to be her?

Just here to say that people should definitely check out Corridor Crew's 'VFX artists react' and 'stuntmen react' series - they do a great job of explaining what makes vfx good or bad, and they bring in stuntmen to explain how stunts are done - including the guy who was stunt coordinator on Punisher S2, and Black Panther's stunt double. Worth checking out if you're at all interested in how films are made! (There's probably some videos on the Corridor Digital channel that you will recognise, they have been making cool vfx videos for a long time now so they know their stuff!)

I kinda disagree, not a good recommendation. When I first watched a couple of videos of them, they convinced me, they had strong arguments, sounded like real pros... But in the end, they are nobodies in the industry. One thing is to have normal folk talking randomly about pop culture (like in this channel and many others), another is to have a professional point of view. If I want to hear about special effects, then at least bring me people from weta digital, pixar, etc this reminded me that redhead guy, Stuckman or something like that, he criticizes movie writing and etc.. But the guy himself did wrote some scripts and they are godawful. Typical case of "stay in your lane"

I actually like how everyone gets a destiny in this movie and thought it was very funny. I liked as much as the 1st, maybe even a little more. Yeah the ending doesn't look great and the Mummy coming to yell "Noooo" after the Rock is stabbed is cheesy.....but I love the cheese and camp, I cant get enough of it. The campy over the top star crosses love the heroes have, the campy swindling brother who keeps getting himself into trouble and is trying to get the big diamond at the risk of his life at the end.

Okay so I would like to throw my hat in on "Eyebrowgate". I used to subscribe to a magazine called Cinemascape and there was an article that had some quotes from a Rachel Weisz interview about The Mummy Returns. She mentioned that her character had spent more time in Egypt and had adopted some of the local styles which included thicker eyebrows and dark eyeliner. I could be misremembering, but I think they actually put thought into those brows.

Funny you mentioned Terminator 2 since i think this movie would have been better if Imhotep actually joined forces with the O'Connells after he got his girlfriend back. Because after that point really they both want to stop the Scorpion King, and since he's got his girl back which was his main motivation in the first one. He doesn't really have any real motivation to destroy the world. Since you know, he lives in it. Can you imagine that twist though, Brendan Fraser sees Imhotep and is like oh shit, then see's he has his wife back. The thing I found to be strangest about all of this is that they made a movie (and a subsequent terrible string of straight to video sequels) about the Scorpion King, making him this noble hero, but in this movie he’s like the worst guy ever, so fucking evil that he’s cursed to be an immortal scorpion monster that will end the world. It’s so weird they decided to make a movie in which he’s the hero.

I played the hell out of the gameboy color tie-in as a kid, I think I enjoyed it more than I did the actual movie. Of course, my video game standards were VERY low at the time, a GBC being the only gaming device I really had back in those days and not having very many games for it...

Brendan Fraser just did one of those "breaking down his most iconic roles" videos from GQ, and he talks very enthusiastically and candidly about the Mummy series -- including his back injuries, love for the movies, how terrible the Scorpion King looks (because they didn't give the CGI artists enough time), and how he'd love to do another one. I literally never clocked that they were the same thing and every time the boys have said LXG I thought they were saying Alex G but I thought they just pronounced it differently because of the accents. The problem with making a sequal to The Mummy (1999) is that The Mummy (1999) is a perfect movie. That doesn't mean it's the best movie of all time (even if it is), just that there isn't anything I'd change about it.

What gets me with the CGI slagging off is that if this movie was from 1960 and Harryhausen had converted a living character into a stop-motion model that didn't look quite like the original (and he actually did do this once or twice) we'd be cool with it and just accept it as the limitations of the technology of the time. This was from 2001, the yardstick was the dreadful CGI Jabba the Hutt from the revised Star Wars Episode VI. People were still testing out what they could do with CGI. Gollum from TLotR was two years away, and even he was a caricature, rather than an attempt to portray an actual person. Even now that kind of technology is beyond us, as demonstrated by the spooky CGI Princess Leia and Grand Moff Tarkin from 'Rogue 1'. This sort of thing only spoils the movie if you let it; suspend belief a bit and don't expect to be spoonfed. They've made it as 'real' as they could.
