Great actors, both of them! I took a long pause from watching Downton Abbey because I was so sad they fell out with each other in Season 3 lol. Siobhan has worked in other great shows but I still wish she comes back because I love seeing these two together!

Thank you, writers of Downton Abbey, for not having O'Brien murdered by Barrow. I believe it would have been in bad taste to have shown her corpse being buried in the woods by him. It was, I believe, a better decision to have had her leave the house unceremoniously, given the alternative of seeing Thomas committing such a grave deed.

They were 2 great evil characters. One could almost forget that they were only acting. The pivotal point is that after the war Barrow changed & O'Brien didn't twig on. This ended their alliance. Good psych study in personality.

I'd say their relationship shifted once Alfred joined the staff, because he's the nephew of O'Brien. She wanted Thomas to help her nephew to succeed. But Thomas being Thomas, he did not want to help Alfred to do well because he spitefully (and truthfully) believed that Alfred was rising the ranks way too quickly. Barrow tried to sabotage Alfred, and that caused O'Brien to break with him forever. And then of course, O'Brien got nasty and cruel in manipulating Jimmy too, to set up Barrow to be fired and arrested.
