Dude, this is so awesome!! Finally a Gen1 open world! I've mostly been playing Pokemon R.O.W.E. (Real Open World Emerald) but now i can go back to my favorite generation!! Plus my favorite feature: ACTUAL GYM LEADER SCALING! Sad how Rom Hacks can do such a better job than the actual mainline series 🤦‍♂️

Yeah, I didn't even think about differentiating the idea of Rom Hack/ Fan Game - though I don't know that the difference is too big here from the other. Cause Like, this gym of mine - obv fan game, but anything that plays like a regular Pokemon game, with no fakemon, in my mind plays more like a hack, and the only difference is that I don't have to patch it. But yea, it's got a lot of replayability, I just wish there were more interaction from the creator, like a Discord or Pokemon community page.

Big Blue had the potential to be great, but it would have required Michael Mian (the creator) to go the extra mile to actually make a story to go with it. If you just want a pure battle simulator then why not just play Radical Red or one of the Rogue games? The whole point of a Pokemon game is to be a story-driven adventure. If its just open world with zero stakes, it feels like your progress doesn't get rewarded.

@@Houlgravely yea I can definitely see that - it's tough tho cause fire reds story is barely there, I do think you miss out on a lot by just not getting the evil team in there, but fjre reds story has never been great. I did find that part a little lack luster, but I also think that if you like to Nuzlocke this hack is a little more forgiving than something like Rad red or the rogue games. I think this caters to the folks that just like to catch cool mons and face trainers in an overworld setting. I will agree tho, adding a story to this would've made it really pop

@@shoopwoop3470 Fair enough. I just find it a little frustrating, for example, that he absolutely did something cool by letting you pick Pokemon such as Duskull or Teddiursa as starters. Being able to get your literal main Pokemon to Ursaluna as your core/ace from the very beginning is very neat. I just wish there was more progression meat to capitalize on the good design ideas that actually are in this game. It just feels like a huge missed opportunity. For nuzlocke streams and all that, I guess it gets the job done though.

@@Houlgravely well, i guess you've never heard of crystal clear xD i think of the earliest open world rom hacks. You can chose to start in johto or kanto (i don't remember if you can also chose the city), have like 27 starters (some which i dont even know how you can start with like magikarp or smeregle, which at in the hardest category ofc) Main problem is that wild pokemon don't scale so you can go face clair as your first gym but the wild pokemon to get there are level 20+ xD

I appreciate all the feedback, this was the first game I created and I didn't want to add a story, but I'm currently working on my next game which will feature a story and even more quality of life features, Gen 5 graphics, and more Pokemon!

This is neat but I personally prefer Pokemon Crystal Clear. It uses the gbc sprites but they been updated with better color and this hack has undoubtedly taken heavy inspiration. If you haven’t checked that one out go as soon as you have free time also have new game plus and difficulty settings.

This game, not having a story should be played in hardcore mode. Perma-death 3 Pokemon Party. Changes the whole game. Super challenge.

The most OP pokemon I used that you can run up to the elite four is only Tailow. If you know then you are good if not then try it. You always get that 1 hit kill haha

Did you have no full heals or full restores to save the flygon? They heal confusion too man, also, Crystal Clear is the best open world pokemon rom hack I've played so far, start in either region, play the whole thing in whatever order you want, choice of both regions starters as well as more starters for more challenging game, level scaling, even a small amount of character customisation, and all that is on a crystal rom, brilliant work, if you haven't played it, highly recommend you give it a try.

O yea the creator made this based off of crystal clear, it's a solid hack. I was playing hardcore Nuzlocke rules with no items in battle, I shouldve done a better job explaining that in the video

@@sainwolf2 so that link up there in the description will get you the game. You should just be able to download this one and play it on any emulator. However occasionally Roms require that you use a converter (not this one ) Think of it as a patch. You will need to apply that patch to a copy of fire red. Now to get a fire red rom (legally) you'd need to back up a copy of your fire red version. I can't tell you what to do or not to do, but the illegal way would be to Google fire red rom, and download one. After you have both versions youll need a patcher something like a NUPS (Google) converter and then you put your base on one side the hack on the other and the NUPS would do the rest.

@@shoopwoop3470 yeah, I know. Been working on my own game for over 6 years at this point. Played pretty much anything fan made out there, doe this ones kinda passed me by? Its on the list for sure Im doin a Full-on fan game, not a Rom. I work on it all by my own and its just kind of a side project which propably wont see the light of day for another 5 years, since I do have a life and a job and and and..... 🙄 theres just never enough time... Reworked ALL movesets up to gen 7. Custom Shinies up to gen 3 already done. Uniqe HP Healing, Repel and Revive crafting system, based on new plants and empty glass bottles. It has been balanced to give money way more value and the player more freedome of choice earlie on, what to do with said money, like an actuall RPG. Do you spend your money on pre-processed food (heals) ? Or do you hold of on that and invest in held items early? Do you maybe have a Pokemon in need of an evolution stone? You can get it. But propably wont have much money on hand for other items for a while... So you'd better explore and side quest, to find those empty glass bottles for more cheap heals in crafting ;) New characters, new region, same ol proffesor sending you on a crazy trip to get HIS dream done ;) When I get anywhere near an alpha build, I'll contact you again if thats allright. Maybe in 2 years or so😅 Its gonna be called "Pokemon Abroad" As a nod to the various famous Abrigded series out there. It is supposed to be a fan-fiction type of thing, continuing tue story of the Johto character (either Ethan or Crystl) and even the fact that you have another name is woven into the story. Oak just cant let Mew go... ;) Keep an eye out

Is it just me? I absolutely hate when a game is based in Kanto or a Red "remake" and there's more than 151 Pokémon available. Maybe I'm just a purist but why can't we just change the story rather than adding all the mons that make no sense

Haven't played all the way through S/V but it seems pretty open world. Also haven't played BotW but yea it also seems pretty open world. With Fire Red you can do gyms 3-6 in relatively any order but gym 7 is locked until you can use Surf. Gym 8 is locked until you beat gym 7. Big blue let's your travel to any town from any town at the beginning, and literally any gym any order

this is actually a terrible rom hack. i feel bad because the dev did put a lot of time in it, but i think he focused on the wrong things. all you do in this game is battle the gyms and then battle the elite four. there is literally nothing else to it. feels more like an early beta than a complete game
