Total Biscuit did an interesting video, not too long ago, discussing game pre-orders. At one point in the video he touches upon how many of the people who pre-order a bad game feel the need to defend that game mercilessly. Even if it's terrible. Because pre-ordering a bad game would make them an idiot. Surely they aren't an idiot, yes? Therefore they must be correct about their game being good. Therefore they must defend it. You have to take into the account the developer. The Order is brilliant visually, and it is polished. The engine took a long time to build. Developing games isn't easy, especially with these visuals. Not to mention, these developers never made a console game before. All their work was on other developer's games (God of War for PSP).

It's not just a generic shooting game, it involves learning how to fight specific enemies and how to evade the environment that is even a danger for you. The developers even go as far as trolling you, but allow players to place warning notes around for new coming players or returning players that forgot how everything works. There is lore that is interesting to work with and enemies that give you reason to fear about. The Order does not do that. It's an unfortunate linear mess that promise details, but no substance. I collected all the items in the game and they do not even hold anything interesting for lore. The documents/papers are unreadable and hold no point. The audio cylinders are USELESS bogus! One of the cylinders is about shipping crates in ships and that's it, nothing else. Does it imply that they didn't check the cargo and just stamped it? They said some crates were considered unsafe and thus can't join the ship to the Americas, so what does that mean then? That they were okay with VAMPIRES travelling along, but not these unsafe cargo? In Bioshock, the audio tapes hold lore items and holds interesting things in them and the idea behind what made Rapture how it is and the floating city known as Columbia, and Horizon Zero Dawn brings in stories that can make you feel emotional for and allow you to see more of the world and on what happened to the technology peaked world before it collapsed itself. But the Order doesn't even bother to bring you any of that. You can take those collectibles out in the Order and nothing would change on what the people understand of the lore. The ending of this game was complete and utter garbage. It was unexpected and I thought it would've cut through into a time skip before we actually go and defeat the main villain, a douchebag vampire. The Lycans didn't even push fear into me in fighting. They were just annoying as fuck to kill in their generated areas of the game as they rush after you and you have to dodge, but before you can even shoot them down, they're already gone. It's even annoying when you have to go up to them when they're finally down to make a final kill on them. Not to mention the cinema bars. When I'm going into a game with stealth mode, I'd like to be able to see what the hell is in my surroundings. The bars held no point or substance to my gameplay and instead made me feel like I rushed into playing without fixing my god damn screen adjustment for the game. Sorry, I made this long as hell. This game pissed me off, especially hearing that people had to pay $60 in full price for it while the developer went silent and just called people "bullies" when they called them out on the bullshit that is this game, refusing to acknowledge the main issues with this game such as the length and the gameplay itself. I only paid $5 for this game and I still felt ripped off.

The exact same thing happened with Aliens: Colonial marines... People somehow can't admit the game sucks and they wasted money on it and they'll defend it to the end of the earth... Joe, normally I agree with you but on this, I don't. First of all, I can tell that despite you saying you found it's mythos interesting, you didn't actually pay attention to any of it. You talk about how it never talks about why the rebels are allied with them or where the lycans come from or who controls them but it blatantly answers those questions in the game. It's not even hidden in one of the audio collectibles you talked about. It's in the game, in the cutscenes and I don't want to spoil anything, but it ALSO answers why Galahad doesn't just tell people "the truth". You fell into the trap that a lot of reviewers fell into. You didn't care for the QTE's, which for the record are not NEARLY as abundant as you claim, and you didn't like that you couldn't skip cutscenes( which is a sign that you don't actually care about the story if you aren't willing to watch them) so you just didn't pay attention and then turned around and said that they story wasn't any good. As for the enemies and the A.I., play on hard. My AI companions actually did rack up some kills, especially in the clips you showed. And the shotgunners are not THAT difficult. Even on hard, I only died a few times to them. You have blacklight, WHICH YOU NEVER EVEN MENTION, which slows down time and lets you unleash your secondary weapon on people very quickly. It's PERFECT for the shotgunners and just crowd control in general. So once again, didn't pay attention to how the game worked and it punished you for it. Also, the lycans, I don't know what difficulty you played on but when I got to those parts, they had 3 or 4 lycans and where they appeared from was RANDOM. It kept you on your toes. The boss fights also aren't true QTE. For starters, you can move around and are in control of your character. It's a scripted fight. If it was a QTE, it would be a cutscene where you occasionally push a button. THAT'S a QTE. And while they use the same structure for both bosses, the fights play out completely different and it works within the story and tone of the game. As for generic enemies, what did you expect? This is a VERY grounded game which takes place in Victorian London. You fight rebels. They are just people. Of course they're "generic". This isn't Gears of War, or God of War, or The Last of Us, or any other game with fantasy enemies where you can have tons of variety. Hell, Uncharted just has regular enemies with a few encounters with "supernatural" enemies but no one ever complains about that. The first Uncharted was also a very short game with zero replay value at full price. It didn't even have trophies back then but no one complained about that either. They structured the story in a way that would capture your attention so when they leave SOME stuff open, you want to see more. In my case, and MANY others, it worked. It got me really invested in the world and The Order itself and I want to see so much more of it and I had a great time playing it. I agree that its gameplay is fairly by the numbers, but it's done well. It's done no better or worse than TLOU or Uncharted or even Gears because none of those games were highly praised for their revolutionary gunplay. They were praised because of the worlds they created and the stories they told and that's what The Order did as well BY YOUR OWN ADMISSION. 4/10 You disappoint me Joe.

Also, I think the reason the cut-scenes and tutorial aren't able to be skipped is to give the illusion of a longer game. Destiny has the same issue, although a hell of a lot more replay value, And multilayer. I'm kind of getting tired of games coming out with really short story lines. I finished infamous second son the day I got my PS4... Same with Skyrim, The gameplay trailer was amazing but it was such a quick game to finish. I actually really wanted this game but after a lot of other hyped games coming out and being relatively mediocre in the end, I thought I'd wait for reviews. I'm glad I did. I'll give this a pass until it's down to $10 pre-owned in 12 months. What a shame.

I hear the developers of The Order bitched and moaned about review scores ruining video games because theirs only scored about 6/10. Guess the game was being pretentious about its graphics engine for a reason. You know what I would have liked The Order to be? A squad based shooter. Instead of controlling just Galahad, you must also give commands to other members of The Order in order to accomplish certain objectives. The cutscenes could have essentially played the role of progressing the story while at the same time acting as mission briefings. The problem in my opinion is that this game, and other "AAA" games, are too afraid to appear "gamey". They need to look like they're movies, otherwise publishers think they won't sell. The sad irony is that very "gamey" games like Minecraft outsells them all. I know Jim covered this topic this week, but the trend of games needing to look like movies needs to die.

Santa Monica, the producers, bitched and complained. Ready At Dawn, the actual developers, didn't really say anything besides "It's obviously not for everyone" on Twitter, which I don't think is bitching but just giving people an idea of what to expect, which was "something different". I enjoyed The Order, I get that a lot of people didn't, but that's no reason to shame Ready At Dawn, they made a lot of really great games, including Daxter which is my favorite game out of the J&D franchise, and they make quality products that aren't broken with bugs.

Seriously, Konami had "reviewers", play their game a few days early, they supervised them btw, through the hours they were allowed to play, to make sure they give their game unearned perfect ratings. And no, I'm not giving Kojima a free pass, he deserves the blame for it too. Considering that those clearly bribed reviews, happened before, with MGS 4. And before anyone says Kojima is just a developer, he was a former vice-president of Konami Digital Entertainment, Konami's *development & publishing* division, so Kojima was definitely in on the bs decisions Konami made, like Ground Zeroes, having the balls to charge money for a demo, taking advantage of their blind loyal fanbase. Speaking of that blind loyal fanbase, they deserve the blame also for accepting the bs, instead of speaking up. Also, MGS V has issues. Look at the PC version, its clearly a console port, so Konami & Kojima didn't give a damn about PC users. If PC users have an older CPU, then the game will crash. The console versions aren't safe either, a recent patch came out, and it fucks up your save file. And worse, the Online mode isn't out yet, so that's *definitely* going to be buggy, unbalanced trash. Especially because the Online mode will be a pay-to-win mess, so the fanboys will blindly waste money. Oh, and don't even think that Konami will give free DLC for their Online mode, like Rockstar does, they won't do that. At least The Witcher 3 deserves the 10/10 ratings. Fallout 4, will definitely deserve the 10/10 ratings. But MGS V, I got to see honest reviews first. Idk if Angry Joe will review it, but if he does, I'll check that out, and see if MGS V truly deserves a perfect rating.

Maybe it's just me, but This has to be the WORST generation for Video games in a long time... Even a landfill full of Broken ET for Atari 2600 games is better than this shit... Every new TRIPLE A IP has sucked so far. Every single one. Oh sure the indy games are actually amazing right now... Almost every Indy game I have played has been fun and worth the early access prices etc. But Tripple A has been a snore fest. ESPECIALLY for new IP. The two best games I played this past year (2014) were GTA 5 remasters, and Last of us Remastered. With Dragon Age Inquisition coming in a close third. I am salivating for the day when a new IP hits big, or when the next gen reboot/sequel of Mass Effect or Bioshock, Borderlands, or Fallout finally lands. I can't wait for a WOW Killer MMO to finally happen (I won't hold my breath). But I have a feeling we will all be waiting a very long time... The next games that had any appeal to them slated for release I suspect will just be more of the same... I really feel like we are coming out of the last gaming Renaissance that was the last gen. So many memorable titles Reboots, and new IP. But now? It's almost enough to make a fella decide to pack it all in and go for a walk outside or meet girls and shit! Come on, don't do that to us nerds! Our pasty white skin is way more prone to skin cancer, don't make us take risks like that!

I've seen so many people upset over the low scores of this game that it baffles me. Maybe I can understand people hating on the IGN or Gamespot reviews, because their reviews are short and just summarizes their overall opinion, usually with lengths of about five minutes. However, when a review like this that is 25 minutes long, showing and justifying every point made with actual in-game footage, and you still live in denial, nothing much can be done. Bloodborne is catered to a niche hardcore audience, I might play it if they make it online multi-player and your character have only 1 life and loses all his items after death but can be reclaimed by others. Other than that, it's not hardcore enough for me, and not casual enough (dark souls) for me to play over other multi-player games.

charles mcdowell It's got a different hardcore. You don't lose your items when you die, that is the lazy way to make a game hardcore. The Souls series does hardcore by making the game actually hard. If you know what you're doing, all the souls games are complete easy mode. If you don't, you won't get anywhere.

Was that QTE ending meant to simulate MGS Snake Eater's ending? Because a hollow game doesn't give it meaning. The reason Snake Eater's ending had meaning is because they spent the entire game building up the relationship between Snake and Boss, illustrating why it was heartwrenching for Snake that he had to kill her. Man, Kojima is a wizard. If only all the devs in the industry had even HALF the talent he has.

I was dying on the shotgun bit. I had the same experience. Also, about the stealth mode in the garden section. You would be right next to a guard, but couldn't kill him, and he would just spot you and you would be dead. Easy platinum though, I guess.

Same here. A lot of the mechanics were irritating as fuck(especially the garden). Also all the slow walking. The slow walking reminded me of trying to fill the word quota for an essay. They dragged out the walking for no good reason. Maybe to make the game a tad longer?

I ragequit at the shotgun bit. Never finished the game. I tried more than 10 times, trying all sorts of ways to beat the shotgunners but with the peashooters that I had, it just seemed impossible. Was already bored by the gameplay and characters anyway at that point.
