I’m a cast member at the Disneyland resort, I and many cast members are in full support of Tomorrowland getting a full redo. I have a full written report surrounding ideas and what could be done to Tomorrowland. I’ve been expressing these ideas to many cast members and they all appear to be in support of this. Because of that, I might as well dump this full thing here. WARNING, this is all just ideas with basic descriptions, so it’s not 100% fleshed out or perfect, here it is - Tomorrowland: This Beautiful World Intro: Tomorrowland is a place for children to grow and learn and to better understand the futures of tomorrow and what we can take away from it. It is for them to be both educated in the sciences and technologies of tomorrow while they are mystified by the wonders of then and fantasy. Outdated and modern is not a concept of Tomorrowland, beauty, reality, possibilities and plausibilities are what made Tomorrowland so special. This current iteration has lost that, relying on franchises and current concepts rather than pushing the boundaries of the future and its stories. Star Wars isn’t the future, Buzz Lightyear is the past and now, Autopia is long outdated and the Finding Nemo submarines are of the past. Tomorrowland needs to change, it needs to evolve beyond such crutches and stand as a place of new wonders and ideas of what tomorrow may hold for the newer generations. Attractions Star Tours New Name: Adventures Through Outer Space - Join Star pilot Nova and his AI companion Celeste as they give you a guided tour through the stars (Courtesy of the Outer-galactic Touring Corporation) - Nova and Celeste will give you a peaceful tour of our universe, launching from various space stations from various planets - Explore many a cosmic phenomena and structures, nebulas, planets, galaxies, stars, and much more… - Hijinks ensue as chaos is brought at every destination, whether that be cosmic events, fantastical space creatures, or even other humans who may want control of your ship - Nova would be an A-1000 animatronic (or the newest version whenever it would be made) with both him and Celeste bouncing off each other comedically, bringing an extra dynamic similar to C-3PO and R2-D2 - Nova would also interact with guests at the beginning, introducing himself and their tour - Star Tours itself would be rebuilt in Galaxy’s Edge, with the new iteration still retaining the current ride system (space travel can be rough) Buzz Lightyear Astroblasters New Name: Future Horizons: The Cities of Tomorrow - A peaceful, atmospheric and educationally focused attraction focusing on future developments of infrastructure and cityscapes and the future of civilization - Each section focusing on different aspects of civilization (transportation, sustainable living, better infrastructure, work and education, cultures and cities) - Utilize the space, top notch screen base technology, forced perspective, illusions and practical props and animatronics would give a sense of size and scale, tricking the mind into believing they’re in a much larger and grand space than they actually are Space Mountain - Unchanged, perhaps minor aesthetic and queue updates (so it doesn’t look like a dead mall) as well as updated projections and effects. Beyond that, it would stay the same Star Wars: Launch Bay - Reverted back to the Carousel of Progress, with state of the art animatronics and a new show, shows the progress of technology within the household. The timeline will be stretched out to accommodate for a final scene exemplifying the future of household technology (for example; Scene 1: 1920s, Scene 2: 2000s, Scene 3: 2080s, Scene 4: 2160s) - The second floor of the building, above Carousel of Progress, can become a smaller version of innoventions, an exhibit and lounge area, a place to see what future technologies within the home and beyond are to come Autopia New Name: Tron: Lightcycle Run - A brand new, original version of the coaster purpose built around the nature that surrounds Autopia - Focuses on virtual reality and how we incorporate the natural world into our virtual environments - Low to the ground lightcycle dueling coaster with a Blue and Orange team racing against one another in an intense and sharp lightcycle battle - The iconic white show building for Lightcycle Run would be rebuilt around the load station where Autopia’s queue and load station is - Half tunnels would be built around the track, lighting effects to simulate the light that trails the light cycles, similar to that of California Screamin (Incredicoaster). Hexagonal patters would fill the rest of the tunnel, lighting as well trialing behind the light cycles - At the end, as the cycles reach back into the show building, the winner’s color would flash along the show building, indicating who won the battle - Speeds would be random, each launch section having a random speed between 43 - 45 mph. This allows races to be close while still being intense and a winner being determined - This also allows the peoplemover and monorail to stay, as this coaster is low to the ground and wouldn’t intrude on their structures Submarine Voyage New Name: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - Revert back to 20,000 Leagues - New technology, better animatronics, educating children on deep sea exploration and the future of such exploration based on future technology - A ride that also teaches children fear, to embrace their fears, to step into the dark, and for them to recognize that things aren’t as scary as they seem at that it will always be ok Peoplemover / Astro Orbiter - The peoplemover would return, the track all clean and repaired with new narrations and new indoor show scenes showing off the rides and atmosphere of Tomorrowland. Perhaps added effects as well as the peoplemover traverses around Lightcycle Run - The Astro orbiter would also return to be above the peoplemover, bringing more thrills and a beautiful view of Disneyland. Also get rid of the Jules Verne aesthetic so that it fits more with the new aesthetic that would be brought to Tomorrowland (to be discussed in the “atmosphere section”) Shopping Tomorrow Landing - Would no longer exist to accommodate for queue space and anything extra for the people mover Star Trader - Retain the name, but instead would focus on non-IP merchandise and new and original merchandise focusing on the rides and experiences within this new Tomorrowland. Perhaps some Star Wars merchandise may remain, but that shouldn’t be the majority (we have Galaxy’s Edge) - C-3PO and R2-D2 can stay in the display window cause that’s cute Little Green Men Store Command New Name: Future Exchange - City based toys and devices and sets. Perhaps the Lego city sets and vehicle sets can be here for children. Holy original building and collectors sets as well can be sold here. Smaller toys and sets too Dining Galactic Grill - Can stay as is, perfect little quick service stop with a nice entertainment option (Tomorrowland Terrace), obvious aesthetic adjustments would be needed though Alien Pizza Planet - Retain the name “Pizza Planet” remove all elements of Toy Story and the aliens - Also update aesthetics to fit with the rest of the land and blend with space mountain Entertainment Tomorrowland Terrace - Bring back shows, perhaps 2 to 3 times a night, have dj’s and bands playing, bringing back entertainment to Tomorrowland Tomorrowland Theater - Either bring back Captain EO or an entirely new short film that would be played every other hour - Perhaps within the hours when the film isn’t playing, the Disneyland band can step in and provide some type of 15 minute stage show for guests or some other type of theater entertainment Starcade - Bring back Starcade, a new and innovative arcade showing off the latest in arcade and video game technology - Should be FREE FOR GUESTS. Guests already pay so much to get in, perhaps a custom time limit guests can establish for how long they want to stay, ranging from 20 minutes - 1 hour. They can leave as they please, not having to abide by the time limit once they’ve set it - People also can’t just hog a game forever, limits on how long you can play such as lives or a time limit would be established too to give other people a chance to play Atmosphere - Retro Futurism for the aesthetic, it’s the aesthetic of the future and what the world seems to be leaning into - Sharp points, rounded edges, pearly whites - Whites, deep yet vibrant blues and blacks should be the primary color choices with natural tone greens complimenting gently with nature - Plants and natural life should all remain, leaning into the emphasis on our own planet and nurturing it - The sphere in front of Pizza planet and Space Mountain should be changed to a beautiful display of the Earth, with ships swirling around it. Again, even though space and beyond our Earth has emphasis, it’s still about our own home and we should celebrate that rather than run away from it

So I know a lot if Disneyland fans desperately want the Peoplemover back, but I think the “normies” (the average guest) couldn’t care less about it and just appreciate the shade the old tracks give the main walkway into TL. Personally I lean more that way myself however, I do want to see a return of a Peoplemover to Disneyland Resort, just not where most fans have suggested before. Iirc Peoplemover is an electric run mode of transportation while the trams are on a gas and the buses are most likely not electric. I want to see the Peoplemover replace the trams, and also be a way to get people from the future Eastern Gateway site to the esplanade without having to walk because that walk is going to SUCK at night after a long day at the parks. Walt’s vision of the Monorail and Peoplemover was a world on the move with intermodal transportation. So I propose that they honor the spirit of that idea and actually use it as a functional transportation system rather than a ride in the park.

Realistically i dont see them redoing Tomorrowland or any other Disneyland attractions until after Disneyland Forward is complete. Closing down a huge chuck of the park like Tomorrowland will cause the overflow of guests to explode in the rest of the park, overfilling the capacity. When Disneyland Forward is complete, they're gonna have essentially another park to be able to corral any guests into while construction is happening in the main park.

Pretty sure that was just a throwback alongside other historical park music and not meant as a hint. If they were suggesting that IllumiNations would return so soon, it'd be a massive black eye to the company for them to make *three* replacement shows only to scrap it all and go back. It would be nice for IllumiNations to return some time, but I doubt a remake would be anytime soon with how much money they already spent on trying to make a modernized night show for Epcot (music production and pyrotechnic engineering aren't cheap).

Disney is likely going to avoid any massive changes to tomorrow land at least until they have established new lands or parks in the area. I feel this is their main plan as they know a major land refurbishment and change causes massive disruption. Pretty sure once they begin major changes to California adventure and expansion of the new gate and perhaps any major restoration or refurbishment of other areas of Disneyland they can go back to the people mover and tomorrow land. Its obvious now. That tommorowland and the people mover are linked. When we finally get word of the plans of the former people mover, it will be linked to the future of tommowland.

I'll just observe that none of the later Tomorrowlands outside the US has a PeopleMover, because this isn't anything with any kind of "tomorrow" connotation any more--it's decidedly nostalgic, and, at best, a mundane feature of today at airports and a few other places. If they do ever remake Disneyland's Tomorrowland, a PeopleMover, identified as such, is not likely to be part of it. That said, I do like the idea of having lots of "vibes transportation" rides, PeopleMovers in Dallin's more general sense. This is something the Tokyo resort understands.

I want to see them both back. Rocket Rods was essentially Radiator Springs Racers v0.1, and they learned a lot about the concept of a high speed racer type ride. A lot of what they learned involved the considerable damage that happens when a high G ride is put on a slow speed track, unfortunately. Still, I want the PeopleMover back. Updated, for sure, but I honestly wouldn't complain if they just put it back exactly as it was in 1978.

It also has a People Mover-esque tram. Peoplemover Tomorrowland: Likely won't come back to Tomorrowland UNLESS they move Star Tours to Galaxy's Edge. Once they do that, they can work on a large amount of track replacement. Then they can finish the rest of the track when Space Mountain goes down for normal refurbishment. The rest can be blocked off and replaced in sections. Peoplemover Disney Forward: Putting a new Peoplemover in the new Disney Forward area to connect portions of the parks (multiple stops) has a much higher probability of actually happening. This is a functional version of the Peoplemover - which means it's no longer a thing of tomorrow. Don't be sad though - that means they will have to create something from tomorrow in Tomorrowland!

You said it shows that Disney ignoring Tomorrowland is because they want to do it right. I sadly disagree. I think it's because the corporation has lost imagination. They are too heavily focused on nothing but IP, and refuse to commit $ to anything original. Disney has always used IP, obviously, but that has also been balanced with original attractions. No more. It's like going to nothing but a commercial - still fun - but a commercial without the real magic and attention to detail that was Disney. I only need to mention the addition of a Cars-themed attraction in Frontierland filling in the Rivers of America to prove my point. Ridiculous.

@@DaffyTaffy93 they could scrap the monsters inc show at WDW and turn it into a WALL-E ride! That show honestly belongs in the new monsters inc land that's coming to Hollywood Studios!

I remember when Fantasyland at Disneyland was redone in 83. They move the tea cups right next to the Alice ride and moved the carousel where the tea cups where (if I remember correctly). I know it would take a lot more rebuilding of Tomorrowland and getting the People Mover working, but its not usual for Disney moving rides around.

My beliefs on what they’re going to do with Tomorrowland is that they will continue to put it on the back burner. New rides and new lands (Disneyland Forward, items announced at D23 2024) are going to pull more guests in, and the expanded new area means you can pack in more guests and make more money. Fixing stuff doesn’t pull in much more money and doesn’t mean more occupancy. Once they are forced to renovate (or run out of expansion area), it seems like they are going to do exactly what you touched on. Tear almost all of it down and start fresh. I think the best thing they could do is return it to its former theme/former glory and make it a 50’s look at what the future could be. Retro future. Current times the future is tomorrow as new things and technologies are created daily and boundaries are pushed faster than ever before. Any future 2120 theme would be surpassed within years.

JUST BRING THE PEOPLEMOVER BACK!

*Rocket Rods.* It bugs when people keep talking about "fixing" the Yeti. Especially since the simple solution is hiding right underneath that stupid strobe light. Here are the 3 steps... Step 1: Hire engineers to remove the existing Yeti. Plasma cutters, reciprocating saws, sledge hammers, crowbars -- whatever it takes. Step 2: Hire a second team of engineers to reinforce the ride and structure so that continues to work reliably and safely. Step 3: Task Imagineering to review the empty area. Then have them design and create a brand new Yeti animatronic that they can install into that space. Or, if necessary, one that they can build and install WITHIN that space. A brand new animatronic built with lighter and stronger materials and 2024 technology. Problem solved.

You forgot step 4. Figuring out a way for it to positively affect the stock price. Because unless you can do that, the project doesn't have a chance in hell of getting green lit.

I'm hoping they announce a Tomorrowland overhaul at D23 in 2026 for opening for Disneyland's 75th Anniversary in 2030. That may be too tight of a construction timeline though. If so, they could close most of Tomorrowland (retain access to Space Mountain from Plaza Inn area?) and start demolition before D23 and then use D23 to tell us exactly what is coming with a model. I would like Tomorrowland to take on more of a dense, detail-filled "future city" feeling (by dense and detail-filled I mean like Zootopia at Shanghai) instead of the 3-4 giant landmark world's fair-like buildings Tomorrowland has had so far. I want to walk around in a vibrant retro-futuristic city.

I want a COMPLETE redo of Tomorrowland, but I also want to move Star Tours over to Galaxy Edge where it belongs. And I want the Peoplemovers to return, but I'm looking at connecting both ends of Downtown Disney and parking lots and even the Hotels on the west there. Maybe look to changing the route of the Monorail as well to expand it into the areas we know are coming.

It’s looking now like the only way we can get the peoplemover back is if it’s tied to a proven marketable IP. So, maybe they need pitches for movie tie-ins that wouldn’t completely insult the audience? I mean, it used to be the original Tron attraction. For what it’s worth, if I was able to afford to attend D23 and go that panel at the Honda Center, I would have started a Peoplemover clap-along chant at some point during the presentation. It was at a sports venue after all, so I feel it would have been appropriate. Or maybe I could’ve held up a sign saying “Peoplemover 3:16.” Sigh.. missed opportunities.

I’ve never been to Anaheim ( as I call it) but know people who are passionate about the people mover and have learned so much about it. Honestly I don’t know how they could possibly bring it back and update the track since it is a huge part of the land. They would havecro close Tomorrowland for a couple years to make this happen. Unless they get good planners who can devise a way to repair the tracks in sections…..to me an older Imagineering from the 90’s could come up with a way, but the newest crop I don’t think has the wherewithal.

I don't know if it will take as long as you said, but I don't think they can do a Tomorrowland renovation quite yet. If they're going to completely close an entire land, they need have those people go somewhere else and they can't do that yet. Once at least something is done with Disneyland Forward, then you can start to see a Tomorrowland renovation

I think they’re just redoing all the rides so they can say when epic universe opens that they have a “new park” too. It could be to Disneys benefit if crowd size stays small because they’re not increasing capacity.

I have a theory about the future of Tomorrowland, particularly in relation to the PeopleMover and the overall redesign. With Tokyo Disneyland's Space Mountain undergoing a major upgrade, we've seen designs that emphasize organic curves and rounded edges, reflecting how nature has no straight lines. This could hint at a broader vision for Tomorrowland's future-one where architecture seamlessly blends with nature, embodying a more harmonious and futuristic aesthetic. I believe Disney is waiting for Tokyo's Tomorrowland to be fully completed before making any big moves in the U.S. parks. Once they've finished constructing the new Villains Land in Magic Kingdom and the upcoming Frontierland Cars ride, they'll likely turn their attention to Tomorrowland. My guess is that they'll temporarily close it down for a massive overhaul, similar to what we're seeing in Tokyo. With the recent opening of the new Tron ride, it’s clear they won't shut down Tomorrowland until other attractions are ready to keep guests engaged. But once those new lands are in place, I think they'll give Tomorrowland the reboot it needs, taking inspiration from the Tokyo version. Whether this happens in Orlando or at Disneyland first remains to be seen, but that’s my take on what might be in store for Tomorrowland's future.

Looking forward to a new People Mover at Disneyland, and not just at the Disneyland Forward expansions as has been proposed, but at a brand new Tomorrowland (okay, they keep Space Mountain, they keep Autopia and they keep the Monorail. . .). . . Now, if they tear down Tomorrowland and rebuild it, will it be at least two stories tall? And will the People Mover transport people between the two levels? Imagine that - a People Mover that transports people to someplace! . . . Oh, and definitely NO to Rocket Rods, Deadpool! . . .
