In August 1980, writer and researcher Colin Wilson journeyed to 30 East Drive in Pontefract, England, the home of the Pritchard family and - if their testimonies were to be believed - a horrific black monk poltergeist. Known as “Fred” and “Mr. Nobody”, this evil entity was terrifying, and responsible for all manner of creepy paranormal activity, from objects moving of their own volition, to scary bumps and bangs in the night, to the full-bodied spectral apparition of a demonic black robed monk. Today, the story of the Pritchards and the Black Monk of Pontefract is remembered as one of the most terrifying cases of poltergeist phenomena in all history…

Laura. I just wanted to say thank you for being one of the channels that have kept me company since my boyfriend passed away in October. It's been very difficult, but knowing that there's a chance he could contact me makes thing easier. We made some rules up years ago in case anything happened to either of us, so there's no looking in a mirror and seeing the other standing behind us, any words spoken by a spirit box are very specific and if someone claims to be able to talk with him better be able to because I don't pay attention to "He said he's happy and now he has his arm back" I know that it's not him talking. And if he's still at his flat and he's haunting it I just wish the next tenants good luck, he's not evil but he's very stubborn. 😆👍

I rented a haunted house for a month. I had just been hired in a new city and got a deal: if I deep cleaned the house, I could stay there for free and only pay the water bill. My husband and I didn't talk about the haunting occurrences until we moved out and felt safe enough. I wonder how many haunted houses people quietly live in just because they can't leave. The good news is, our house we bought a month later is great and ghost free!

That Colin Wilson book was what got me into this whole interest, all the way back when I was 9 - when it was still a new release. What a blast from the past! This was among the very best of your recent uploads! Your justifiably cynical assessment of how the place is run now is pretty much spot on as well. I am a Yorkshire native and still consider myself a staunch Yorkshireman despite having lived and worked in Scotland for many years now. I heard about this case in the early 1970's (I think it was summer 1971) from someone who claimed--and I absolutely trust her word--to have experienced aspects of the haunting first-hand. When I read about the far more famous 'Enfield Poltergeist' case almost a decade later I was shocked by how many similarities there were between the two accounts. Indeed my mother always believed Hodgson had made up her story based on the reports of what happened in Pontefract.

I was a student nurse at the Pontifract hospital. In the ward that was supposedly built over parts of the abby. I SAW A FIGURE REFLECTED IN THE GLASS PARTITION. He wore a cloak, so did I so subcontialy thinking it was just my reflection. But when I got back onto the ward it dawned on me the figure had a hood ,I didn't!!! . Then I eventually heard there was supposed to be a monk who often visited. This of course was night duty. You cannot convince me I did not see it.Around about late 1668-9.

This reminds me of when I was visiting Mission Santa Ynez in Solvang, CA and I glanced over to the field just outside the wall of the mission. There were two priests in dark robes with their hoods up walking side by side towards the mission. It wasn't unusual to see clergymen at the mission; they still hold mass regularly. But when I went to mass later that day, all of the priests were dressed in white/light robes with colored accents. I toured the grounds after service, and went to the section of the opposite side where I saw the priests walking. Right next to me were four graves of monks

I saw it as a part of one of their regular uploads not too long ago (though I'm not sure that the host realized that the famous property was the subject of the video. I recognized the house by the layout of it's interior almost at once, though.) The video is shot, at night, by the then current housekeeper at 30 E. Drive. She says she was dared by friends. Me and my ex were gonna go and spend a night at this house. He's from Barnsley in South Yorkshire so we didn't live too far from Pontefract. We never did though. I remember Yvette Fielding from Most Haunted (which is a mostly fake ghost hunting show in the UK but they do go to places that are meant to be haunted for real) saying this was the worst place she'd ever been to. She was asked in an interview and said she would never go back. They did go back a second time though and she was proper nervous for ages before going back. She says they switched off all the lights when they left and as they drove off the sitting room light came back on. I think it looks extra creepy because they've still got the old 70s looking decor. I'd still like to go, I'd just be nervous about something follow me back home.

Wow, thank you Laura for your intense research into these cases of the paranormal. You truly never leave no stone unturned in them. Two things about this particular case make me question it. Not it’s authenticity, but what you’d mentioned about being unable to prove certain things. Such as who was living at the house at different times, did they not keep any types of records when a property was sold? And to who and when? That seems bizarre to me. And the other being far more interesting, as you mentioned that the mere belief and intense feelings had by the younger members of the family, and that energy being enough to actually bring the entity into reality. That I have heard of before this. And it definitely sounds plausible to me. Where I do have the trouble with understanding how that works, as in would such emotions simply bring an already existing spirit to the location? Or would it actually create the entity on its own? I’m inclined to believe the former, as it would seem to require an enormous amount of energy to do such a thing, where as it’s commonly said that such emotional distress can lure a dark spirit to you. And that, again to me, seems to be the far more believable action. Now I’m not going to simply disbelieve that it couldn’t happen, as since we are here it’s proof enough that your audience is able to not only understand and fully believe that these things can and do happen. So our overall thinking processes have a wider range than most, and aren’t so quick to rule out anything. Some may have more understanding in the paranormal already existing and they either choose to or are bound to certain things or people. And I’d imagine it’s a smaller portion that would be open to the ability to truly bring into existence such s thing. As I always say, to each their own, and This is no different. But what an incredible case! I’m not inclined to write it off as simple BS, as I rarely do! And the events during this haunting seem to be very well documented by many different sources. I’ll stop here as I have no doubt that I’ve made my point clear! But again I thank you for your work and time in bringing these fascinating stories and events to us all. Please keep them coming!!

How delighted am I to have stumbled upon such well researched and neutrally delivered content. I have been studying the paranormal since early 1990 (thank's to my beautifully sharp minded grandma). More recently (I'm 46 now) I completed and undergraduate psychology degree and also gained membership of the SPR (as well as the BPS). I find myself more focused than ever upon all things anomalous and so have been trawling the internet for content I consider...legitimate and of value; such content, I have come to realise, is woefully scarce. I shall be subscribing post haste. p.s, if you will perhaps you could give me some thoughts upon something I've been pondering. If those with Aphantasia (a total lack, or difficulty in, producing mental imagery) have an anomalous experience, is it more or less likely to be an internally produced phenomenon? As you may have guessed I am Aphantasic but had an anomalous experience that occurred twice, but on separate occasions. Please forgive the large message, and of course there shall be no animus towards yourself if you have not the time nor inclination to indulge me. Kind regards in advance Mr Mark H Ramsey.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely and thoughtful comment, Mark. I am glad you found value in this video, and indeed to to have read about your own studies and research into the paranormal! You also raise a fascinating point in regards to Aphantasia. This is, admittedly, not something that I have come across before, but I can certainly appreciate its potential for further study in regards to anomalous phenomena - an Aphantasic psychic medium, for example, would make for a fascinating case study. Thank you again. I wish you all the best with your studies!

I wholeheartedly subscribe to your conclusion, dear Laura. Sometimes things are what they are. Distorting them is not only unethical but also a dangerous manipulation of reality. The thought of a black monk tulpa is so sinister... yikes!

I heard on a recent paranormal investigation on the property, that one of the male residents of the property experienced something so horrifying in the coal room, that he will not talk about it. I haven't read the book, but I just wonder if it was in there. Very interesting Laura, great non judgmental and thorough investigation 🤗

From what I know it was the father Joe. Somehow got locked in there and was victim to something he never talked about and which changed him. He died in the top bathroom after getting home drunk, having a heart attack and choking on his own vomit

I don't think I've heard you vehemently criticise someone like that before. 👍 I agree with Jung in this instance. It will not be a demon as these are extremely rare and unrelenting. More like a nasty, dark spirit who feeds off adolescent energy. Good coverage. Thank you.

wen i was around 7-8 yrs old me and my mother moved into a house that seemed cool at first, had a big back yard and was in the neighborhood all my friends lived in. but soon things started getting scary. me and my mom would wake up to hear knocking on the front door at around 3am...we checked the door and while we stood their with the door open something invisible knocked on the dam door! it was the strangest thing and this went on at random for some time. then things got worse my lights would come on by themselves in the middle of the night and my stereo would come on blasting white noise with the volume all the way up! that was the last straw for me! we moved but whatever this thing is has followed me to this day..its ben this whole thing..

I started getting scratches on my skin 20 yrs ago. It happened maybe 10 to 12 times and stopped a few yrs back. They were 3 long raised burning deep scratches. They happened under my clothing in some places I can't even reach. Even happened to the top of my foot while I was showering once. They only happened when I was around my mother visiting her. Im an atheist and shes a devout Catholic. I have video of them slowly appearing and breaking the skin when I just felt a burning sensation first. It scared the hell outta me every time and I'm so glad they stopped.
