The songs and music are the best things from this movie, thanks to the great music composer, Hans Zimmer. This movie captures the hearts of both religious and nonreligious people. And it is definitely one of the best DreamWorks movies ever.

Now I do mostly agree with you, I really really love the prince of egypt. But dude it's really hard to argue against with shrek. And in particular Shrek 2.....Because my God it's so fucking good, I would argue the Shrek 2 is one of the greatest movies ever made, has really fucking good tracks the story is phenomenal, the animation is interesting and fun. It's crazy hard to compete with that in my opinion. The one quality that The Prince of Egypt really has is it's just...beautiful. Which is a really good way to put it.

Come to think of it, The Prince of Egypt is probably one of the most beautiful and unique animated films I’ve ever seen. I especially love the opening song. Unlike every single opening song in any animated film, which are often cheery, upbeat and whimsical, "Deliver us" is the most intense, darkest and mature opening songs I’ve ever heard.

The Prince of Egypt has literally the most phenomenal, emotionally raw, beautifully writtten sound tracks. I like all of the songs but Deliver Us and the Plagues song are my personal favorites

A common pitfall that most other religious movies (including other adaptations of Exodus) fall into is they're so insistent on sticking to and preaching the words of the text that they fail to actually get us to care or connect with the people within the story itself. Which is pretty inevitable when even the original scriptures themselves just treat them more like vague archetypes to tell the story/message through. _The Prince Of Egypt_ boasts a grand, epic scope, great visuals, beautiful music, and reflects the mythic feel of its source material, just as most of the other films do. But its biggest strength is how it gently puts aside the religious preaching, and instead grounds the story through its intimate focus on the characters and their feelings and arcs. Much like Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of _Dune_ , it focuses less on prioritising the spectacle (while still maintaining it) and tells the story more through the lens of what actual, real people would do and feel like when experiencing these events. So even people who aren't religious or familiar with the source at all can connect to Moses and the journey that he goes on.

The reference is clear - Exodus 32, the story of the golden calf, Aaron uses a chisel to create the calf. In the original story the act seemingly came out of nowhere, because before and after Aaron was a believer and faithful to G-d and Moses, but for Aaron in the movie version the story fits together very well - in the movie he learns to believe in miracles, but as soon as the faith is no longer fulfilled metaphysically he will return to his skepticism . This is also the reason why I really want DreamWorks to release a sequel that focuses on Aaron - from the golden calf, the building of the tabernacle, the death of Nadav and Abihu, the ongoing quarrel between G-d and the complaints of the Israelites, and finally every story with Korah, Dathan and Aviram... How does Aaron feel about all of this? Moses - he was not really part of the people (again, according to the movie), G-d sent him to take the people out of Egypt and bring them to Mount Sinai and then to the land of Canaan; In every quarrel between G-d and the people, he stands on G-d's side. But Aaron? He was with them in the slavery of Egypt, he also knows to what extent the harsh reality causes a person to lose faith - and in addition to that, he is not the one who prophesies directly all the time. But G-d chooses him to be a high priest, to stand above the rest of the people and sanctify himself, and in the end he has to confront because of this in front of people in the same position he was in at the beginning. Moses also has quite a bit of drama here - after all, he destroyed his brotherhood with Ramses in order to renew his brotherhood with Aaron, and now he has to mediate between G-d Almighty and the people he was sent to and his biological brother. In addition, Jethro returns, there is the story with Miriam and Tsipora, and it is true that no scene can compare to the tearing of the sea, but the climax of Korah and his team being swallowed by the earth can still be spectacular.

Nothing will ever top the Prince of Egypt. The Prince of Egypt is TOP TIER! This movie straight up has the presence of God all over it. I get goosebumps every time. Religious or not this movie is an absolute Masterpiece!! Nothing could have been done better. The Prince of Egypt is a masterpiece of a movie. The animation is breathtaking. Every aspect of this retelling of Moses's story is flawless. I couldn't find anything wrong with this film, and I'm surprised at the low rating. The animation is stunning, particularly in The Plagues section, which remains one of the most haunting and evocative scenes in an animated film for me, and the one with the Red Sea parting. The crew went all out in producing a large epic scale that properly portrays Egypt's amazing monuments, from their rise to their death, for the studio's first ever hand-drawn animated film. The parting of the Red Sea is a legendary event in animation, stretching the boundaries of what computer animation and effects could accomplish back then. The exact definition of an epic fantasy told through Biblical roots. This is the perfect Bible movie. The narration of Moses' story is strong, and the art is amazing. The soundtrack, on the other hand, is what puts this beauty together. The songs and musical scores are catchy, brilliantly written, and completely astounding. The Prince of Egypt" is one of the best animated films I ever seen. The Prince of Egypt is an incredibly powerful film. The visuals, score, story, music, characters, and everything else are all great. The cast is so talented, the animation is smooth, expressive and unique, and the songs are absolutely captivating. My dude, this movie is arguably my favorite animated film ever. And I grew up in the 90's with the Disney Renaissance. I know this movie backwards, forwards, sideways, and diagonally, that how many times I've watched it. And even then, it's still a soul stirring epic that moves me to my core every.single.time. It had no right to be this good, but thank goodness it is and that we have it! That said...not only have I SEEN Joseph, King of Dreams, I OWN IT. Is it as masterful as Prince of Egypt? No, but it's perfectly watchable.

One thing I love about Prince of Egypt is that they kept Moses' personal growth from the original account in Exodus. At first, he's a hot-headed Egyptian prince educated in statecraft and warfare, but then he becomes a shepherd to learn compassion and, most of all, patience. He needed BOTH to effectively lead the people of Isreal in the forty or so years as nomads in the wilderness.

I absolutely adore the Prince of Egypt, the animation is incredible and the story is amazing. The parting of the Red Sea and some of the shots of Egypt and the Desert were just incredible to look at. But what is great about it is that it can be watched by anyone. It isn’t preachy on religion but genuinely dives into the morals of the characters and how faith and duty drives them together and apart Moses and Ramses have one of my favorite sibling dynamics in film, although Ramses is the antagonist, you know that he does love Moses still throughout the entire movie. The talk they had the night of the 10th plague was one of my favorite moments between the two, the way they talk and the way Ramses was the one who tried to come to an understanding with Moses was amazing. I actually cried a little at the end of the movie seeing Moses hear Ramses cry out his name stranded, and Moses giving a final goodbye to his brother. (I also didn’t notice this till much recently, but I really like the way they set Moses apart from his adopted family subtly was that they were all voiced by British actors, as you can clearly hear the accent, while Moses was voiced by Val Kilmer, the only American voice actor among them) The soundtrack as well, oh my goodness. Every single song is amazing and fits the movie so well. Deliver Us as an opening song sequence is one of the best animated movie openings of all time you can argue with the wall. All I Ever Wanted had some of the most beautiful imagery of the palace and gives interesting insight on Moses, especially when he finds out about the murder of the Hebrew infants and who he really is Through Heaven’s Eyes is a great contrast of All I Ever Wanted and showed the passage of time well Playing with the Big Boys was very catchy and also had a very fun sequence to watch The Plagues is incredible in showing the rift between Moses and Ramses, and the animation of the plagues happening were just incredible, watching the burning ice, the frogs coming up the river and the darkness falling over the city was phenomenal And When You Believe just turns the movie around from one of its darkest moments to a beautiful beginning for the freed slaves that is so incredible to watch (even if you know they didn’t actually reach the promised land until 40 years later but still great) The Prince of Egypt is easily one of my favorite animated, even just one of my favorite movies of all time, an absolute underrated masterpiece

The Plagues is hands down one of my favorite songs from the movie and an underrated duo song in my opinion. I’ve always wanted to perform this song with someone else. The plagues progressively getting worse and worse as the beat and background chorus gets harder and louder pulls it together beautifully. I often tell people, Christian or not, religious or not, I highly recommend this movie for the sake of the visual masterpiece that it is. The songs and how heavy it weighs paired with the visuals onscreen, the moment when you want to root for Moses but the trying times when he ultimately fails, the moral and spiritual confusion he deals with for the first half of the movie and even still into the second half. It’s all so well done. I couldn’t hype this movie up enough.

Fun fact: Stephen Schwartz, the songwriter, was originally tasked to write songs for Disneys Mulan, after writing songs for Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. When Disney got wind that he was writing songs for the Prince of Egypt, they told him he could only write songs for either Mulan or Prince of Egypt not both to the point of threatening to take his name off of his two previous Disney works. Once Schwartz refused, he was taken off of Mulan and was solely writing songs for The Prince of Egypt

Having Prince of Egypt getting more attention is always a plus for me. I also always feel the blues when the brothers are forced to fight each other. Prince of Egypt is the movie that Disney kept trying to make during the Renaissance - with Pocahontas, Hunchback and Mulan you can sense the animators struggling to make a more serious animated movie that tackled serious issues, but they were held back by the requirement to be "Disney" and be family friendly; there had to be lots of comic relief and lighthearted numbers clashing with those serious moments, or they ended up being preachy and heavy-handed on their messaging. But Dreamworks had no such requirements, which is why their 2D output all feel more mature than Disney. El Dorado and Spirit also take it further than Disney - Disney would not make a movie like El Dorado where the heroes are basically schemers and con men, who are still that way by the end; and with 'Spirit' a lot of the history is hinted at instead of lectured/rewritten the way it is in Pocahontas. I really did think, when Prince of Egypt came out, that U.S. animation was going in a new direction. Then the Shrek franchise came along and ruined everything.

Watched it when I was little and so I didn't know much of what was going on, just that Moses was a slave adopted by a non-slave family. I knew that Rameses' son died, but wasn't sure what killed him. Looked like an illness symbolized by a gust of wind. Didn't know it was a plague from Moses. But even though I didn't understand the full context of the movie, it was still one of the best animated films for me. All of the suffering, and all the people coming together, and the "When You Believe" song... Those were very good memories I had of the movie that made up a part of my childhood.

i'm not religious but the Prince of Egypt is one of my favorite movies, it's one of those movies i wish i would have seen it growing up but am glad i didn't see it till a few years ago as i got to appreciate it more, same goes with the Hunchback of Notre Dame

EDIT: The other thing I love about this film is the care and detail that went into making this film as culturally correct as possible. I don't think up until this point there was an animated movie that wasn't cultural appropriation in some way. The architecture, the clothes, the weapons (such as the khopesh which I had to google), the pets, the jewellery, the hair, the cloth, everything was well-researched and very respectful to the Egyptian and Northern African cultures. In terms of cultural appropriation, Prince of Egypt was well ahead of its time- and that's simply because the creators cared. 5:00 one small correction, the parents knew he was Hebrew. It's very heavily implied they knew but adopted him anyway, especially from Moses' conversation with his Mother in the place where she found him. The only person who doesn't know he's Hebrew at that point is Pharoses, which is why Moses is able to say "ask the man I once called 'father'" outside the city gates before he leaves So yes, the parents are hypocrites. OTHERWISE, I also love this film, which really is a tale of a tragedy between two brothers (and God) at its core. Watching this for the first time, was the moment I understood animation is not just for children, and instead an artistic medium that can truly enhance the power of storytelling. Such a dark story, such wonder and curiosity it incites, without being afraid to really dig deep into some of its darker themes. I wasn't expecting in an animated movie, for the river to turn to human blood. I wasn't expecting in an animated movie, to see children die on screen in a black, quiet night with a cold white light streaming through. I wasn't expecting in an animated movie to see genocide right in the beginning. I wasn't expecting to see in an animated movie, the protagonist kill someone. And all of these moments are dealt with very heavily. Their weight is acknowledged, and the animation incites the emotions of these things and also the amazement of the time. I couldn't help but shed a tear at the burning bush scene, because you can feel how raw that moment is with the animation and the score. Or the wonder and amazement at the parting of the sea scene. Animation really captured that beautifully here, and I wish more people could enjoy this movie in all of its beauty, wisdom, and incredible characters.

Joseph King of Dreams is good; nowhere near Prince of Egypt, but still good. And I love Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron!!! But Prince of Egypt is the absolute best Dreamworks movie!!!!! The story, the animation, the music. Just perfection!!!!

I think this movie should be a example for others HOW you should do an animated film. Yes, it's a masterpiece. But I feel that other movies just don't even try to do something as good. I can tell you it just looking at animation. It's like a teacher gave 20 math tasks to do and only 1 kid solved all of them right. This movie is "the kid". All people who worked on this movie had done their part perfectly.

I cannot tell if this was intentional (probably was?) but this was weirdly well timed for Passover! As a Jew the Prince of Egypt is a beloved film within my community and I’m happy that they made this film as something everyone can enjoy religious or not.

I genuinely loved Spirit! I think that might actually be my favorite Dreamworks film, but the Prince of Egypt was a close second. It was also the first animated film that Dreamworks did, if I'm not mistaken. I actually remember seeing the poster when I went to the movie theater ages ago, and couldn't wait to see it. I thought it was a beautifully spectacular film and an incredible start to the company's success. It was an animated film for the whole family, not just for children. I can't get over how gorgeous the animation was (big 2D fan, here) and the soundtrack was AMAZING!!! This is the way that I wish religious cartoons would have all been like...looking at you, Veggie Tales. But, yeah, you could tell that this wasn't a movie that was made for millions, so much as it was a passion project for the directors. This is top tier filmmaking and I wish we could go back to this. PS: I did see Joseph: King of Dreams and really enjoyed it. I haven't seen it in years, but I did like it. It wasn't as great as its predecessor, but it was good. ...and that one song was just so inspirational.

I can say Joseph King of dreams was partly based on the real event, and Prince of Egypt was half true, but if you want to know, it was based on the first 14 chapters of exedous. What I didn't realize was that it was biblical in middle school for history class it was my first days in church, and I had no idea what was going on. Believe me when the people complained, leaving Egypt, losing faith in God, the water from the rock, land of milk and honey, and when they get to Jericho Moses only seen but can not go. That's where Joshua comes in as Moses' successor as a warrior. The war for Jericho is one of my favorite books in the Bible. And let me be clear it's not myth nor fantasy all the Bible's events are real. What Jesus Said happening now. Be ready be ready.

I was raised Christian and watched this film and loved it. I'm now anti-theist (I don't like any religion or any belief system as a concept.) and I still love it. It's so amazingly well crafted and has excellent story telling. And for those who are religious, it absolutely respects the source material while bringing things that everyone can enjoy. It's an adventure with well written characters who change and grow. No one is black and white and it gives them depth even if ultimately they're awful, you're still interested in them. It's beautiful to look at the the style was so freaking cool. I've always loved Egyptian stuff. I know it's super romanticized and such, but I still love it. It's fascinating. So them going with the cultures art work come to life idea and studying the landscape for the backgrounds and scenes is just, AH! (insert the kid saying macaroni with the chicken strips here sound bite.) Love this film.

The Prince of Egypt isn't my favorite Dreamworks movie, but it is very good. It had respect for its religious roots and was an incredibly well-made film. There are just five other Dreamworks movies that just connect with me way more. The opening with the song "Deliver Us" was chilling and really gave a strong impression.
