It’s really interesting to see the Chinese versions of games, it’s like looking into an alternate reality. Though looking more into the Chinese version of Minecraft, it seems that Apocalypse Mode is actually from a mod that had a trailer made for it so English-speaking people thought it was official. From what I’ve seen it seems to be mostly similar to our Minecraft except free to play stuff.

Interesting, I saw a lot of different places saying it was a legit feature of Minecraft China so I guess that's on me for not doing better research. I did also read up on a few of the other features like a marketplace for texture packs/game patches, and having ads you could watch for Diamonds/Emeralds (which I assume is like minecoins or some kind of premium currency and not actual in-game items), but I didn't want to dwell too long on it as a passing example.

I assume people just saw the pretty well made trailer for it, assumed it was official since they couldn’t understand it, and the idea that Minecraft in China has an exclusive dimension with it’s own bosses passes around far better than the fact than it just being a mod. TheMisterEpic has a video that seems to be a pretty good breakdown of it.

I agree! One of my favorite games, Terraria, has almost all of its bosses completely redesigned to get passed censors. Some of them actually look very cool, and I wish I could change them to the default...

The marketplace you've mentioned is a microsoft feature itself, meaning it's worldwide, where you can sell maps, skins, texture packs, etc exclusively for minecraft bedrock. As someone who has published work on the minecraft marketplace, it's a money trap for both the consumer and the seller while microsoft enjoys taking their huge cut from each sale (up to 60% cut).

5:22 as a teenager who has lived in china for 5 years, having to submit your id and face scan is in part due to chinese kids playing too much, so they passed a law for the “实名认证” system that basically checks if you are 18+ or not. iirc the rule for non 18+ people is that you can play for one hour on friday evening and on holidays. THATS IT. many people bypassed it by simply asking parents to do the submission, or just side loading a game available internationally via a vpn or knowing where to look. also the government is probably using the data for more but whatever

Great to see Quest getting some love!! It was the first Pokémon game for Switch, it deserves it haha hope Pokémon Company see the potential the game has and bring more updates worldwide.. The chinese version looks really cool, loved the special themed Pokémon I'm right now trying to get the shiny starter trio, already got Venusaur and Charizard is next!

Just a heads up, Pokémon from gold pots have a 300 stat boost, whereas Pokémon from the basic pot have no bonus. So using a Pokémon from a gold pot will make the dungeons way easier

I found it interesting that the local Asian grocery had Lego block blind boxes for this game; I have a few of them from there! Never got the Mewtwo one sadly, and they stopped selling them suddenly. Congrats on the wicked shiny though!

An unfortunate but fortunate at the same time of chinese versions of games is they will have some really cool stuff, however there is the issue of just that- can't help but feel sad about that. I enjoyed this video, might just get back into quest as I only got an hour or two into it the first time I played it.

I started to play again because of this video and got a shiny Abra and Articuno. I really love this game and enjoyed shiny hunting again. i will never forget the moment my stew that was supposed to give a blue pokemon gave me a ditto... and then i remembered what color ditto's shiny was right before seeing it. it was the first shiny i got from quest as well so i was shocked also not sure if the game is that smart about colors or if it was just luck but it was amazing either way

Wow, that's really super amazing! Those odds sound so painfully painstaking. 4.6% of finding a normal Mew, let alone a shiny one sounds like it would be impossible. But, destiny can make anything possible and that's why it's so exciting and absolutely awesome that you got this shiny mew. Congrats to you! I'm hoping one day once I get to the final level of the game, I can finally spam the level for the ingredients to make that Legendary La Ambrosia so I can finally hunt for my very own shiny mew, cause it's something I definitely wanna do someday. Kinda evil of the Chinese government that they would try to take your identity just for the sake of getting a new upgraded version of pokequest. Pfft, over my dead body I'd ever risk it either. But that's how you know how evil the government over there is, they're really strict about what media comes into the country, because like North Korea, everything is controlled by the government, and it's really sad. Won't lie though, I wish we could've gotten these cool updates for Pokequest too. Would've been awesome to shiny hunt johto pokemon in this game.

I would absolutely love Quest to be updated again to add more pokemon, or at least for the art style to be reused in a new game (on the switch 2 perhaps?). It sucks that the potential for what this game could’ve become is locked behind a firewall and that Nintendo shelved it entirely so soon after releasing it, because even though gameplay-wise it’s very lacklustre, being an auto battler and all, it was still super fun to hop on for half an hour or so and play out a few runs in the hopes of finding a shiny or rare pokemon from a dish.

My first shiny is Shiny Magnemite which I immediately evolve into Magneton, it was gorgeous. Also, I think chinese version of the game has never been a problem, the real problem is the global version remains untouched for years, it can't be helped that we compare it with chinese version.
