The game was developed at the same time as the film, and as such, included bonus levels based off of the cut dream sequence Remy originally was going to have. Nonetheless, Dream Worlds end up being a fitting transformation, as at least one can loosely tie it to Remy's "dreams" of food and the possibilities with it.

I don't know why I liked this game so much as a kid. I was crazy about the Over the Hedge movie for some reason. There was so many videogame adaptations of the movie, and I got and played them all. I think the Ratatouille game appealed to me because you could steal shit to make the sewer look like less of a sewer. Kind of like in the PS2 Over the Hedge game where you could take things from the neighborhood to make your tiny forest home look nicer.

Back when I was 8 years old my aunt gave me the Nintendo DS version of this game for Christmas. The second level was a "stealth section" where you had to flee from the old woman's kitchen without being spotted by hiding in cups, kitchen cabinets, etc. If she spotted you, a close-up of the woman's face armed with the shotgun appeared on the lower screen of the DS accompanied by a screech, and I swear by Christ that that shitty image and sound scared younger me so much I didn't dare to play that game for a full year. Thank you, RT, for helping me remember one of my childhood's weirdest traumas.

Oh right, they played some accordion track if you got spotted. Later in the game they did exactly the same thing with Skinner - they both chuck tomatoes at you non-stop if you stick around in their eyeline for too long. Thing is, I could have sworn they set up the level with the old woman so you _had_ to get spotted, no matter how stealthy you were. I tried a few times, never got good enough to get to the saffron without being spotted.

I think this one the developers were actually trying for. The Linguini chase sequence is pretty ambitious, like they were going for a budget Uncharted set piece, and there's a lot of varied gameplay which broadly fits the tone and adapts the events of the movie. It looks to me like care and thought was put into it, it just wound up pretty jank anyway. It's no American Tail videogame, at the very least.

The game has smooth controls and pretty concise platforming in sprawling levels with tons of well littered collectables, while leaving straightforward but still challenging main missions to occupy one with. "Shit" seems like a severe understatement. At minimum, theres a lot more worth to this seemingly throwaway title than the criticism designating it so

I beat this game numerous times on my original Xbox when I was a kid. I explored every level from top to bottom and having loads of fun. I liked how different levels would change depending on Where you were in the story. I also loved exploring the sewers and looking at the rat colony. For the amount of movie tie in games out there I think this one is actually pretty good. I also played the 360 version and remember it being not as good.

@@rachelcookie321 unfortunately, disney made the releases extremely confusing, as there are about 5 different games with different developers and platform releases. This rat title released on PS2, og xbox, Gamecube, Wii, and PC and is the one most people are familiar with. The PS3/ Xbox 360 release is by Heavy Iron and features much more sluggish gameplay and a sort of harsher look. Then theres a psp release that actually features a sequel plot to the first film and a 2d platformer of sorts on gba. The whole lot is wild lol

Well it is a relatively simple template to design for when you are forced to have a game out on such a deadline to capitalize off of success. That and minigame collections. Doesnt mean you cant make good 3d platformers though

I remember loving this game as a kid even if it was frustrating at times. So much nostalgia. Maybe I should try and see if my PS2 still works and play it again. I’ve still got Over The Hedge, Madagascar, Arthur and the Invisibles, The Incredibles 1 & 2, Shrek 2, and others. PS2 was the golden era for film games. So much fun. It’s always strange that your memory of the graphics is much better than the reality.

I actually had a different Ratatouille game on PSP. It was after the events of the movie, where Skinner stole the recipes and we had to go search for them. It was... surprisingly decent. Also had a G-Force PSP game. Was okay, but barely relevant to the plot of the movie. And had a radically different ending, which young me did not enjoy.

I can tell that there are a lot of people in the comments coming in surprised, both with memories and continued ratspect (respect) for the game, and I figure it may be helpful or heartwarming to know that there is a community that came purely from this undying love. Its been a little bit since ive been active in it, but I want to bring up the speedrun community for this game. I hate to do this as it may come off as shameless, but nonetheless, you mentioned it briefly in this video. I was a founding member and have had significant influence spaRATically over the years. I had enjoyed this as a kid, but after extensive revisiting, ive gained a whole new appreciation for it. When asobo was set to make this game, the movie was still in production. Their close contact with the film team ended up being utilized intensely, as when looking at locations and lining up screenshots from the film, the environments are almost literally one to one. The controls are crisp, simple, amd relatively easy to get the hang of, minus a learning curve for the surprising sprint speed as well as the pole swinging that RT misses in the city level. The flavor and delight in how the obstacles and platforms are crafted in a rat sized ratio is consistent throughout and delightful. Levels are mostly open and yet straightforward to navigate, with the main path usually being prevalent in appearance and accessibility. collectibles are sometimes strewn about the main path, but they are mainly tucked in side paths to encourage exploration and tinker with little pockets of puzzle solving. The dreamworlds are colorful, vibrant, and progressively challenging. The slides are supreme tests of speed management and turning control, albeit they are definitely daunting considering the intended audience. The game has over a thousand collectibles if you consider each individual star, and yet it never feels over bloated. The extras shop feels rewarding, with all sorts of additional content, including cute and exciting party minigames, time trials, behind the scenes, etc. Oh right, this was supposed to be a shoutout to the speedrun community. Anyway, point is, please dont feel wrong or that you are alone in liking this game. There are many rats in the colony, and we all look out for each other. I absolutly loved this game on the PS2. The unfair difficulty at some points was the best, but now I see that the PS2 version was one of the better ones. Still one of the best games of my childhood. Would play it again if I didn't broke the disc. Edit: Looking at all the comments, I think my videogame skills peaked at 6 years old. I went hard to 100% this game.

So I remember playing this game to a hundred percent back in the day and I remember absolutely DESPISING THIS GOD FORSAKEN GAME! So I bought it out of the bargain bin at my local GameStop for my PS2 as a child and I really liked the movie so I thought to myself "Oh cool they made a game I wonder how fun it'll be!?". Little did I know this game single handedly made me rage so hard that I snapped my PS2 in half.(I had anger issues) so kid me got a second PS2 and did his best not to rage, and I remember hating the sublevels where it's a fever dream of food parkour it was awful I couldn't tell you how many times I died trying to jump from the grind rail pasta onto a fork with frame perfect timing it was actually infuriating because if I didn't make it up to that point I would die by weird camera physics and walking off a narrow fucking chocolate bar into an abyss of clouds. I guess the sewer pipe surfing levels were cool but I remember in the later chapters there was this one specific level that had a frame perfect jump you had to make that was way too hard to calc because of how fast you were going through the pipe and you'd end falling into the abyss below.

omg i forgot about this game. At some point i had gotten a PC disc of this game, tried playing it but the laptop (really old bad laptop) kept lagging and i could never get past the river section. I USED TO PLAY THIS GAME SO MUCH ON MY PS2! I loved it to much but there was this one REALLY long slide closer to the end of the game that I just couldn’t get down without sliding off the sides. I was so young that I thought intimate objects hade feelings and therefore could feel pain, so whenever I failed and got angry, I would bite the joysticks hard as I could as a ‘punishment’ for the controller 😭

I loved this movie when it came out, I love it to this day as one of the best Disney made. Reminds me of a time when they felt more genuine and put out movies I wanted to see in theatres (saw THIS movie three times alone in theatres I loved it so much). This game...if Patton Oswalt wasn't attached it would be far less tolerable because he MADE Remmy. Loved his performance to death 😁

Okay i had this game on the psp when i was like 7 and from what i remember it actually wasnt that bad (but VERY different from this version). You had to collect gusteau’s lost recipes and for every recipe you collected you got a real life (kid friendly) recipe that you could actually make. it was actually really fun and got me interested in cooking as a kid, which is something i really love now. Looking back i do think a cooking mama knock off wouldve made more sense but i do have really fond memories of this game despite it being a paragon of the hellscape that was the 2000s kids movie to shitty video game pipeline
