Here’s something to delve into: When Waternoose banished Sulley and Mike, we find out later he didn’t actually want to, as he said to Randall “Because of you, I had to banish my Top Scarer”. Sulley obviously did not know that, as at the time Waternoose was criticising Randall, he had just arrived back to the monster world. When Sulley threw the Scream Extractor at Waternoose, Waternoose was now convinced that he and Sulley were no longer buddy-buddy with each other and sought to get rid of him. Had Waternoose given it some thought, and not sent Randall after Sulley, he may have tried to explain things to him. So really, Waternoose isn’t really a villain, he was just a victim of force and threat.

When I was a kid, I was already very aware that lions and hyenas are mortal enemies. I didn't even realize Scar had betrayed them, I just thought the hyenas were starving and because of that, they suddenly "remembered" lions and hyenas are supposed to be enemies, and that's why they ate him. For a while, I even thought Senzi said, "we have always been enemies". And for a kid who watched lions and hyenas maul each other in documentaries, this "biological standpoint" just made sense. I am fully aware it is way more complex than that, but it was just how I thought about it back then
