Some people on here, seem surprised that Paul Mullins main reason, for the Wrexham move was for the money? I think it’s useful to appreciate that the professional life of a soccer player is short, maybe around ten years. That’s if they are lucky and don’t go out early on injury or loss of form. So, one of the main motivators as in any job is the salary! Why not? I think in Paul’s case, the club is much closer to his family, the plan for Wrexham, to take the club up the leagues, suits him! He can see a club with big ambitions, that is close to home, that will pay him well! What’s the mystery?
@zukyozelf71446 ай бұрын
absolutely agree. lots of salty lads out there. Mullins has been such a force for Wrexham - hope he surprises the competition in next years league 1
@A-small-amount-of-peas6 ай бұрын
Paul is from Liverpool and as his boots have specified he does not support a certain political party who's most common characteristic seems to be ensuring the rich get richer and that's about it, so I don't think financially motivated was his primary objective. Dropping 2 divisions and still being paid at a league 1 level I would have thought would be just a fringe benefit to him if it meant he could spend the most amount of time with his son and wife and his friends and family whilst becoming a bona fide club legend already in such a short amount of time and he's nowhere near done yet. He prioritises his role as a Dad first and with the added exposure of the documentary it opens up other revenue streams for when he retires. Signing for Wrexham was an incredibly smart decision but some people just can't see the logic I guess

@IlariLehtonen-oo8mv5 ай бұрын
Well the mystery would be going to a club thats two divisions lower than the club you are playing for. If money is a main motivator- playing and performing in a better league can give you more money (potentially) as even bigger clubs might sign you
@paulie-g2 ай бұрын
@@A-small-amount-of-peas I also don't think it's unreasonable for him to want a decent wage. It's one thing for players who've been collecting PL /academy level wages for years and are millionaires many times over to be greedy and hunt the bag, but players this far down the pyramid don't get that much money and often struggle financially. Thinking about providing for your family is noble and praiseworthy in that case.

Given Cambridge are 18th in L1 just now, I’d not be surprised if Wrexham weren’t well above them in just a few months time.

@@Vahapetautus indeed. I’m certainly not expecting anything like a first season promotion push like they did this time round, but I suspect they’ll finish no lower than maybe 14th next season, especially if they get their summer signings right.

Anyone complaining about Wrexham being able to buy better players and pay higher wages needs to get over it.. if their team had owners that gave a shit they can do the same exact thing.. And it’s a totally different story in championship and premier league.. plenty of guys up there with WAY more money than Rob and Ryan. Hell the Chelsea owners have spent 3 times Reynolds net worth just buying players the last 2 seasons, that’s not including their wages 😂 So the playing field is getting closer in league 1 and if they make championship it gets serious quick.
