Thanks for another great video John! This video is perfect timing for me. After being strict raw vegan for about 3 years I started to have doubts and felt my diet was too restrictive. I have recently added in a few steamed veggies and legumes and I am actually feeling much better and stronger! I still eat mostly raw, but am no longer so dogmatic about it. It was beginning to feel cult like, lol.

I think the biggest factor is that most raw fruits and veggies have a whole host of medicinal compounds that work as a form of dietary medicine for when you're sick. Like bioflavonoids, polyphenols, anthocyanins, etc. They also have a whole host of protective effects on the organs (especially the liver) which benefits your body tremendously. And of course they have some of the highest nutrient and vitamin contents in any food. Whether it's infection or toxicity or some degenerative disease brought by deficiency, it can be overcome with this diet. However, I agree with you and think that many raw food gurus take it too far. There's a lot of good things about cooked food that make it a welcome addition to your diet.

After years of experimenting I eat mostly raw fruit and salads, smoothies, small amounts of seeds, sometimes nuts, but also tofu, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, and sushi rice with tamari sauce, sometimes lentils. The amount of nutrients in those cooked foods are such a huge bonus for the cost of pennies, especially since a lot of raw food is not optimal in the soil these days. Nuts contain a lot of nutrients but can be hard to digest and expensive. I don't take oil or eat high fat.

Just before watching this I saw another raw vegan's KZbin video, and they claimed we need exactly what you said we do not have to do in order to heal "Clean your bowels! Do a 40 day juice fast! Then go raw vegan or it's not going to work for you!" That person offers a membership program (I am not a member and have not bought any of their offerings), but it made me question if one has to reset and cleanse w/ a 40 day juice fast to not suffer bloating & constipation from the raw diet. I am very petite and weigh 90lb, so I prob wouldn't thrive on 40 days of raw juice. I suffer with IBS-C despite a WFPB, vegan, low processed foods diet (and gluten free) for 13+ years. Water and exercise don't alleviate my issues. I will start implementing the things on your list, slowly adding more raw as tolerated by my gut and hope I begin to get healing. Do you rec a particular raw juice recipe that is vegetable based? (Fruit sugars can bloat me).Thank you, John! :) I do have a great juicer I bought from you, so I am all set in that area!

Less is more. I think people do not see the point while getting obsessed with blenders, all kinds of gadgets, complicating things. Healthy eating should not be complex, time consuming, expensive. It is very simple. Eat local, eat seasonal. It is better to eat local baked sweet potato instead of imported fumigated mango. People go into extremes without thinking and then scream that it does not work.

In the beggining there was no reason for eating fruits and vegetables. It was just because that's what we are supposed to eat. It's not about animals or anyone but what we are supposed to eat. Veganism is a new word, it never existed before. We have a vegan restaurant in my area and the owner is overweight with a big belly. I don't understand how people choose to save others beings while killing themselves slowly. And if you are eating the way you are eating because of someone else (animals) you can change your mind in future. If people were naturally strict vegeterians, no animals would be hurt.

Lol….no one can tell others they aren’t “awake” just because they don’t do it for the reason YOU say. People do it each for their own personal reasons and others should just respect it. She also mentioned that she eats potatoes because without it she starts looking super thin which she doesn’t like it, I don’t like anorexic look on some raw vegans either. The term ketovore immediately shows that you have alot more research to do. All carnivore diets are keto, it's redundant and it's a gimmick you fell for. Did you know if you properly do a carnivore diet you're getting some carbs anyway? It's called glycogen. Especially in liver, the most nutritious part. But it's not enough to feed the microbiome.
@andrewilson8096

You need a thorough herbal detox and enemas. Once a regiment is completed you'd be about to eat plant based whole foods without any bloating. The bloating is due to your microbiome being unbalanced and being backed up with waste.

No Doubt that Traditional Blending can Heal People. That being said, newer technology can increase nutrition, flavor and taste to make nutrition and probably success rates even higher. Of course each person needs to decide if it is right for them or not. Like my friend Nate Says, "Once you go VAC you don't go back" that being said others will be fine never using this new technology to maximize nutrition for whatever reason.

I think cooked fruit, canned fruit and smoothies are great, can't possibly lose all the nutrients must be a negligible amount. How much nutrients do you need? Cook with whole foods, no junk food makes sense. I use those flavour sachets which are highly processed but using a small amount and just making the whole foods meals I cook tasty. It's less than 40cals a serve so can't be a lot in there, spices and seasonings and maybe vegetable oil but somehow powdered, not sure how oil is made to powder. And sometimes I use soya chunks, unflavoured just defatted soy protein. I think that's fine too. And I add caramel flavour drops to smoothies, I think it's fine too. It's all fine right? I don't think I could stick to a raw diet.

Funny how you are shouting from the mountain tops how great cooked food is. I suppose not eating at all that way for as long as you have, time to change. I tried adding in cooked for for a few years, but eventually that wasn't working, too much hard to digest grains, starches, not convinced its that great for you, other than adding calories. Made me feel heavy. Occasionally maybe I eat something cooked, but in the moment but the next day sluggish. So I am hitting 95% raw and not dogmatic about it one way or another.

Cooked foods burden the body and take the most energy to process. Cooked starches also create biofilms. Pressure cooking healthy lectin foods destroys all the lectins but will not prevent the cons of cooked starch. It's all better eating the greens from the same seeds. Those cooked foods are a double edged sword. Although heating liquids below 140F keeps things in the safe zone.

What about oatmeal? I’ve been 80% raw for couple of years but recently eat a bowl of organic oatmeal every morning with wild blueberries. Also, have added lentils and steamed potatoes. I have added 10 lbs. lol

I’m going for high raw. Enjoy your oatmeal. I put in raisins & other dried fruit, plus acai, cacao, pomegranate & dragon fruit powders, and top with organic Dark grade A maple syrup. It’s the bomb. I might experiment with an unheated overnight oats sort of thing, but I’m not stopping the oatmeal!

Honey isn't considered vegan. But it doesn't mean you can't eat it, if you choose too;-) And getting it local and raw is best! If it's raw, it'll say it is...cause not all honey is raw.

That's also why the carnivore lifestyle works so well, gets rid of all of the ultra processed foods. But I do think that meat is much more nutritious than plants.

Carnivore diet has become popular recently. If we disregard the sustainability and the animal cruelty arguments, then , is Carnivore Diet inferior to Raw Vegan diet? Many people are saying they get their health back with Carnivore.

Yep. Welcome back to my twenties. As a third generation vegetable grower, we wiped out more life growing vegetables than raring cattle. So not so sure about vegan being more ethical than carnivore. All depends on what line is drawn on which life matters more than others

@@DomDeDom -- Thanks for your interesting comment. Could you please elaborate on " we wiped out more life growing vegetables than raring cattle. ". How does that happen?
@DomDeDom

@rayrwyr Flies, slugs, greenflies, carrot fly, bees, etc. Any insect that attacked the crops was killed. Also, some birds, rabbits, and lots of hares Note that the insecticides did not kill the insect lifeforms immediately but melted them over a period of time. Nasty stuff. We tried going organic a few times, but the crops were wiped out by pests too many times to make it work profitably. Probably today, it could be done better, but it would still be a tough job

@@DomDeDom -- Thanks for your explanation. However, growing crops to feed the livestock to make beef.pork/poultry will have the same issues. Cows and other livestock animals need very large areas of land and water for animal feed crop farming. That means use of pesticides. Am I wrong? It is argued that much areas of land and much water can be saved by avoiding beef eating.
