As a kid I watched Stabler and the 'real' Raiders from the stands at Mile High stadium back in the 70's... The NFL's finest moments, rivalries were rivalries, and teams had larger than life personalities. I'm glad I got to see the era where football took over the country!!!

I was 19 in Jan 1977, when I decided to move from the town where I grew up and drive up to Lake Tahoe to get a job. I drove my 1966 MGB over Carson Pass on Hwy 88. Before reaching South Lake Tahoe I stopped for gas. There was a brand new Caddy at the pumps. The man standing next to it was Kenny Stabler. It was like a day or two after the Raiders had just won the Super Bowl. Al Davis was close friends with the owner of Harvey's hotel-casino. Davis had rented like half of a floor of rooms for the team as a celebratory reward. When I got to Tahoe I landed a job within a day or two - at Harvey's (as a cook). The first week I worked there I saw lots of Raiders players around the hotel and casino.

Stabler's best years were with the Raiders. He's a Raiders great. When Stabler went to the Oilers and Saints, he didn't have much left in the gas tank. The return of Stabler as a color analyst on Sundays was something to behold. Or rather, I should say, something to listen to. That southern accent was music to the ears. 😄

Nice video. Many memories. I grew up in Concord during this time. My dad and Grandpa were big Raiders fans, so of course I was too. Went to many, many games. My dad worked in San Mateo. Some bar he went to, several Raiders players were there a lot, he was friends with Ben Davidson, would bring me and my brother gear all the time. Took us there a couple times and we got to hang around them. Stabler was there a couple times. Really great guy to me and my brother. I was 10 - 11 years old. I remember how huge they all were.

Back in the NFLs hay days! I’ll never forget as a kid when he played for the saints. You used to be able to go down to the locker rooms and wait for the players to come out and they’d sign autographs. The Snake came out and graciously signed for us and he and my dad started chatting and we ended up walking out to the parking garage to Stabler’s Caddy where he popped the trunk and had a styrofoam ice chest full of Budweiser 😂 he and my ol man had a beer together and he split. He was the absolute coolest! RIP Snake.

So fascinating to study on the legend of Ken Stabler. I don't remember his playing days. He was long retired when I started watching football, I was born the year he won the Super Bowl. My favorite college team is Alabama and my favorite pro team in the Raiders. So naturally I heard of the "Snake" . I read his book and was captivated by his story. He lived a life they could make a movie about. So many ups and downs. Even his Hall of Fame Induction was controversial. As he said in his own book, he was told he would not enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame until he died. That is exactly what happened. He should have been enshrined 5 years after he retired. He was involved in the greatest memories in NFL history, the ghost to the post, the holy roller, the immaculate reception would not exist if Stabler didn't drive the Raiders down for a touchdown in the closing minutes. Games with names as they say, usually "the snake" was front and center.
