Shade room is the low hanging fruit of anything goes long as we get the clicks views. Shade room is like if lipstick alley, mediatakeout, worldstar hip hop, infowars and newsmax had a baby and unleashed it on the internet targeting black folks and the youth. Pure unadulterated ignorance turned up to 1,000 to get clicks and views. Even Rupert Murdock would be proud of this money making ignorance.

I’ve been on LipstickAlley since 2010 and there has been a HUGE shift. While it was gossip, it was mainly celebrity gossip and a bit harmless. Nowadays there’s been a huge tick in political information with accounts that you can tell aren’t black women. These ppl pretend to be black and create negative discourse. And the moderators do nothing! However they “try” but it’s still not enough. It sucks bc it used to be a safe haven for black women. We’d talk about things that only involve us and have great discussions. Now it’s literally a cesspool.

@@CamJames I was with you to that point. your generalizing all africans. The don't all have this mentality tbh its mainly nigerians and ghanians but in the west we dont give them respect of differentiating them and we just say "Africans". you seem to ignore the africans that proudly tell blacks in the west to remember where they come from while we called them booty scratcher and made fun of them for eating with there hands. It's crazy to say that by showing that boosie video shes perpetuating hate and stereotypes in the black community when that was a BA talking to a BA. but re uploading something he said in public is wrong ? cant agree. but you do great work.

@@ra-neter6662The guy in the video pretty much says it all. This type of stuff is typical from a) people from the ghetto and b) people who are not American. Africans and Non-black Americans take advantage of dysfunctional content that comes out of our culture and promote it 24/7. The stuff that NEEDs to be promote they ignore it. They also utilize their platforms to push bad politicians on us when it’s election year. Go to the White House or Black Events like they speak for us or like they are black Americans like they are our representation. It’s a long list of reasons. This not exclusive to just Africans, East Indians do this also. This type of stuff is even worst when it’s an LBGT person is over a black platform. All they do is chase clicks and promote bad stuff on their platforms. Whenever a lot of people find out the background of some of these owners ppl just black those pages. They have no good intentions. Plus knowing how veil Nigerians are toward African Americans, seeing how she’s only doing this because it made for a better career money wise than being a doctor in her family - it’s all a cash grab to that lady. At least with ppl from the ghetto they start to change their platforms for the better no matter if ppl like it or not. Non-Americans (Africans and whites) will milk it for as far as they can go. It’s like a Drake vs Kendrick scenario. You wanna be apart of the culture, wanna make money off the culture but all you have is veil negative stuff to offer. All you do is take. You poor negative stuff not only in adults minds but into our kids minds also with you “share rooms teens” platforms. Why are adults making shade room content for kids which is basically the same stuff for adults.

Great video as always. I appreciate the longer length too. Just to give you some context on the community question you posted about whether we want longer videos, what I do is play a video as I lay down to sleep. I look for something at least half an hour long. Either way, I watched this while I was wide awake and loved it. Can't wait for part 3.

Hey Cam, great video! I wanted to compliment you on a few things outside of the content 1. How lovely you are in your responses to comments. I’m so used to seeing creators like a comment or throw up an emoji in response, so seeing you engage with people has been honestly heartwarming. 2. The speed at which you run the names of your channel contributors at the end. Again, I’m used to seeing names fly by on other channels and the fact that I was able to actually read the names felt like a very intentional on your part. Thanks for your incredible work.

To break all of this down in 23 minutes is amazing! I always wonder what it would take for gossip platforms to die but they continue to evolve into something worse. And as the daughter of a Black American woman and Nigerian man I can say the shade room creator has zero knowledge of Black American culture, if she did her platform wouldn’t rely so heavily on negative stereotypes commonly believed by most Nigerians.

@CamJames The character you showed by giving Justin Carter recognition and accolades... Speaks far more than you can imagine to an outside observer. KZbin suggested your second deep dive to me, and since that day you have been a not insignificant voice in what I will call my own personal re-education of America. Keep inviting us along with you in what I'd wager is your own personal American cannon. Keep the compassion and heart you glow with, you walk in the footsteps of all men who have fought the good fight. Together, with an emphasis of having these difficult conversations in a respectful and equal footing is our only hope against the world. I see you.

I've heard of The Shade Room before, but had no idea about its origins, owner, or any other info about it, since I'm not hugely into celebrity gossip. It is unfortunate that it monetizes a lot of negativity and likely messes up discourse between black people globally. Another great deep dive.

Brother, as a Nigerian-born American-breed,personally I don’t follow TSR simply because of what you pointed out and you were hitting the points until 19:56. Nigeria is only one country out of 54 African countries, of 220+ million people, 33 states, 450+ ethnic groups, 500+ languages, numerous religions, formally educated of different levels, non-formal educated, artisans, artist and so on. The few Nigerians you meet in the US doesn’t represent the whole Nigerian Community the US. Stop this false narrative. It a divisive rhetoric.

I fortunately never heard of them, but I also actively avoid social media outside of KZbin. But this sounds exactly like the criticisms made in the The Boondocks episode regarding BET, when it comes to profiteering from salacious content aimed at blacks. I also appreciate bringing up that there really is a divide between American-born blacks and those that are first or second generation. I hate to create more of a divide, but...we're indeed not the same. I'd like to consider them as "part of us", but more and more I see that that sentiment isn't shared the other way around, and I suppose it's ignorant of me to have thought so. Our plights and history are not the same. We may share some commonalities, like with a Venn Diagram, but we're still outsiders looking into each other's experiences as opposed to walking in each other's shoes. Also, that lame duck excuse regarding leaning into homophobia and transphobia is just gross. The users of Twitter are more insufferable than ever because the captain of the ship is a buffoon himself. When the leader of the company promotes derogatory language and ideologies, the users will see that they too can do the same. You can control the type of audience your draw in based on what you post. Post positve, uplifting comments and you will draw in people who appreciate that. Post love for the LGBTQ and trans community, you will bring in those communities. You hold all the power to control the narrative, so anyone running a "news" website that says they can't is a bold faced liar and they don't want to support those communities.
@BlisaBLisa

rly cannot stand the attitude that someone has no control over their audience and that the kinds of people in their audience isnt indicative of anything about the person. you can literally see with your own eyes that thats not true, like the twitter example. people want to pretend they live in a vaccum where they dont influence other people, thats just not how humans work
@CamJames
@CamJames 6 ай бұрын
couldn't be more on target. that's exactly my point. she's lying, full-stop. you have all the power. i don't allow aggressive, attacking comments on my channel for that exact reason. the audience you cultivate is the one you have, it's false that "it's just the way Black people are". no Angelica, your company sucks and you do too.

Thankfully never heard of TSR but very good & interesting coverage of the topic. One half of my family is African diaspora and have always been very clear that we don't have the same experience as Black Americans, but that never meant we weren't equal or respect wasn't owed. There definitely are cultural differences, even as a first generation, but that should never mean treating others poorly.
