Shade room is the low hanging fruit of anything goes long as we get the clicks views. I’ve been on LipstickAlley since 2010 and there has been a HUGE shift. While it was gossip, it was mainly celebrity gossip and a bit harmless. Nowadays there’s been a huge tick in political information with accounts that you can tell aren’t black women. These ppl pretend to be black and create negative discourse. And the moderators do nothing! However they “try” but it’s still not enough. It sucks bc it used to be a safe haven for black women. We’d talk about things that only involve us and have great discussions. Now it’s literally a cesspool.

They also utilize their platforms to push bad politicians on us when it’s election year. Go to the White House or Black Events like they speak for us or like they are black Americans like they are our representation. It’s a long list of reasons. This not exclusive to just Africans, East Indians do this also. This type of stuff is even worst when it’s an LBGT person is over a black platform. They have no good intentions. Plus knowing how veil Nigerians are toward African Americans, seeing how she’s only doing this because it made for a better career money wise than being a doctor in her family - it’s all a cash grab to that lady. At least with ppl from the ghetto they start to change their platforms for the better no matter if ppl like it or not. Non-Americans (Africans and whites) will milk it for as far as they can go. It’s like a Drake vs Kendrick scenario. You wanna be apart of the culture, wanna make money off the culture but all you have is veil negative stuff to offer. All you do is take. thank you for seeing me, i appreciate that. our goal is to let the facts guide our opinions, not the other way around. TSR can simultaneously do good work and produce positive content while also being a vile and divisive organization.

I've heard of The Shade Room before, but had no idea about its origins, owner, or any other info about it, since I'm not hugely into celebrity gossip. It is unfortunate that it monetizes a lot of negativity and likely messes up discourse between black people globally. Another great deep dive.

I just recently came across your channel and your presentation style is super ambient and great to watch. I’ve watched a few videos now and your perspective on how black scammers are trying to capitalize on culture and community while actively causing harm is super interesting. Also, thank you for highlighting how platforms like TSR promote anti-lgbtq+ discourse while feigning ignorance. As a gay person, I really appreciate you denouncing this kind of nonsense.

Brother, as a Nigerian-born American-breed,personally I don’t follow TSR simply because of what you pointed out and you were hitting the points until 19:56. Nigeria is only one country out of 54 African countries, of 220+ million people, 33 states, 450+ ethnic groups, 500+ languages, numerous religions, formally educated of different levels, non-formal educated, artisans, artist and so on. The few Nigerians you meet in the US doesn’t represent the whole Nigerian Community the US. Stop this false narrative. It a divisive rhetoric.

I fortunately never heard of them, but I also actively avoid social media outside of KZbin. But this sounds exactly like the criticisms made in the The Boondocks episode regarding BET, when it comes to profiteering from salacious content aimed at blacks. I also appreciate bringing up that there really is a divide between American-born blacks and those that are first or second generation. I hate to create more of a divide, but...we're indeed not the same. I'd like to consider them as "part of us", but more and more I see that that sentiment isn't shared the other way around, and I suppose it's ignorant of me to have thought so. Our plights and history are not the same. We may share some commonalities, like with a Venn Diagram, but we're still outsiders looking into each other's experiences as opposed to walking in each other's shoes. Also, that lame duck excuse regarding leaning into homophobia and transphobia is just gross. The users of Twitter are more insufferable than ever because the captain of the ship is a buffoon himself. When the leader of the company promotes derogatory language and ideologies, the users will see that they too can do the same. You can control the type of audience your draw in based on what you post. Post positve, uplifting comments and you will draw in people who appreciate that. Post love for the LGBTQ and trans community, you will bring in those communities. You hold all the power to control the narrative, so anyone running a "news" website that says they can't is a bold faced liar and they don't want to support those communities.
@BlisaBLisa6 ай бұрын
rly cannot stand the attitude that someone has no control over their audience and that the kinds of people in their audience isnt indicative of anything about the person. you can literally see with your own eyes that thats not true, like the twitter example. people want to pretend they live in a vaccum where they dont influence other people, thats just not how humans work
@CamJames6 ай бұрын
couldn't be more on target. that's exactly my point. she's lying, full-stop. you have all the power. i don't allow aggressive, attacking comments on my channel for that exact reason. the audience you cultivate is the one you have, it's false that "it's just the way Black people are". no Angelica, your company sucks and you do too.

Thankfully never heard of TSR but very good & interesting coverage of the topic. One half of my family is African diaspora and have always been very clear that we don't have the same experience as Black Americans, but that never meant we weren't equal or respect wasn't owed. There definitely are cultural differences, even as a first generation, but that should never mean treating others poorly.
