In my experience, shows either improve as they go or they don’t. The Rings of Power is doing a bit of both. You like that non-statement I made just there? Just you wait, pal. I’m full of them. To an extent.

This video is a funny "review" of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Episodes Three, Four, and Aive, which were titled Adar, The Great Wave, and Partings, respectively. I made this in about three days, so I am sorry that the audio is so completely inconsistent. I simply ran out of time to fix it. I am going to buy a lapel mic.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an American fantasy television series based on the novel The Lord of the Rings and its appendices by J. R. R. Tolkien. Developed for the Prime Video, the series is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It is produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with HarperCollins and New Line Cinema, and in consultation with the Tolkien Estate.

We watched it because of you and I've decided you're right and wrong: You're right that the dwarves are the best part. The other parts are bad or just kind of nothing. Please just give us more of this dwarf storyline, everytime Elrond or a dwarf are on screen it is a good time. You're wrong that the dwarves are every other episode, we were very happy to see dwarves get significant time in two consecutive episodes. More dwarves please.

When I saw the very first teaser trailer I was skeptical. And boy was I correct! This series is SO boring. This doesn't have the same darkness as Lord of the Rings. Disappointing.

i mean. i enjoyed some parts (of the two episodes i watched before i was bored to death and moved on to people covering it because it is more fun) but boredom isn't the only problem here. pacing is shit which is what makes it boring sure. but then there is the fact that pretty much all the characters suck ass, and then there is the fact that the plot is stupid. so how is it an okay show? still a funny video though

Is the show actually based on stories in the Silmarillion? I have neither read that book nor have the ability to watch the show. and since you have both read that book and are watching that show, I need a nerds take on the inconsistencies. like is there a similar dissonance to how Orcs are represented in the “Middle Earth: Shadow of “ games versus how they’re portrayed in the proper books? Where the video game orcs are funny hooligan Warhammer orcs and the book orcs are borderline racist depictions of western assumptions of various eastern cultures and armies. TL;DR Was there really an immigration commentary narrative in the Silmarillion?

I'll be honest, it's really hard to absorb what is even going on in the Silmarillion. I tremble in fear of the one who gets it all on the first read. Bu from what I understand, the Silmarillion doesn't cover much of the Second Age, which is when this show is happening. I've picked up on references to a few things (Numenor lore, the Silmarils, the Valar) but this story is mostly independent.

There is no allegory in Tolkien's work: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5TUgHqOa5ear9U&ab_channel=JonathanFruoco. The whole 'elves taking our jobs' sequence and various other social commentary are coming directly from Amazon, and the show is made out of the crumbs of lore to which Amazon has the rights.

The story depicted in the show has nothing to do with the Silmarillion the events depicted in the show are made up specifically so the writers can insert their own stories and characters and use the popularity of the original source material to prop them up. They couldn't even get the most important detail right that in the Books no one knew who Sauron was and they certainly weren't chasing him or waiting for him to strike. Also, the whole Elves are coming to steal our jobs is just American politics , in the Books Elves were warned to remain seperate from humans by the Valar because of the Gift of Ilúvatar which was Death and the Uncertancy of their afterlife which would cause resentment towards the imortal Elves and the Valar

From what I've come to understand, RoP is basically based on the appendices of LotR because that's what Amazon got the rights to (as well as LotR and The Hobbit). Silmarillion's rights isn't for sale, so they can't really base anything on it which isn't also in these books.
