So you talked a lot about the added hours that game developers have to add to add Dolby Vision to their game but you did not talk about licensing fees. To get Dolby Vision to work the TV, console and game developer they all have to pay licensing fees to get it to work. For TV/Movies it seems that benefit for static content out weighs the fees. But for games it seems like you are just adding a lot more development time for dynamic content (The gamer can look anywhere go anywhere) plus fees that don't add as much value. I think Dolby Vision for games should just drop their fees until game engines make it super easy to turn on.

Both DolbyVision and HDR10+ are part of ST2094 standard. Dolby is application 1 or ST2094-10, hdr10+ is application 4 or ST2094-40; One can read where exactly they achieve the same result or not. ST2094-10 params table: TimeIntervalStart and TimeIntervalDuration TargetSystemDisplayPrimaries TargetSystemDisplayWhitePointChromaticity TargetSystemDisplayMaximumLuminance TargetSystemDisplayMinimumLuminance MinimumPqencodedMaxrgb AveragePqencodedMaxrgb MaximumPqencodedMaxrgb MinimumPqencodedMaxrgbOffset AveragePqencodedMaxrgbOffset MaximumPqencodedMaxrgbOffset ToneMappingOffset ToneMappingGain (sigmoidal curve) ToneMappingGamma ChromaCompensationWeight SaturationGain ToneDetailFactor ST2094-40 params copy most of the ST2094 table but add more complex bezier curves, transition ellipses for pixel selection and a Color saturation mapping function. So technically both standards have at minimum a per scene basic params change, but then add refinements. Since the particular tonal or contrast content would change outside "authorial intent" with basic tone mapping.

Bad info🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼Modern PBR HDR workflow does not require any extra asset work whatsoever between any of the major HDR formats such as; (OG)-HDR-10, HDR-10+ or even Dolby Vision🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼They are ALL 10,000Nits containers, & it's literally easier to implement than an SDR conversation & the metadata is automatically generated anyway The only difference(similarity)really is NONE of the standards can fully be met because none of those formats can be fully saturated with real IRL 10,000Nits display because no such display as of yet exists. Sony gets closest with only(IIRC)one 4,000Nits(as measured in the real world)full field sustained LED display & no OLED even comes remotely close, hence why the compromise was made to not aim for 10,000Nits but rather the usual 1,000Nits or 4,000Nits of HDR-10 or Dolby Vision respectfully Metadata might seem like a necessary feature but it's actually a crutch to alleviate the issue that is dim displays, so when I hear people say phrases like "implement Dolby Vision correctly" I know they lack understanding, because there is no implementing HDR correctly because the true 10,000Nits standard can't be met period, so there is no doing HDR right, the displays simply aren't bright enough, & if they were, then the metadata becomes irrelevant as everything at that point is just displayed at native values, the reason that metadata seems important is because Dolby is asking for more brightness than what is currently possible so it needs to compensate for when it's not as bright because the already lower scaled brightness would make muddy hard to see dark detail even worse then it already is than when regular HDR-10 struggles To simplify the HDR technology is not the issue, it's the fact displays are still much too dim to max the standard so each standard has to be scaled to fit, a typical high end OLED only manages a meager "sustained full field brightness" of a just 200(yes two hundred spelled out as in basically SDR)Nits this means the brighter the standard(such as Dolby's)the dimmer the APL(average picture luminance)& the worse the gaming experience TLDR; this means Dolby Vision gets avoided outright because it makes games look much too dark on average for the vast majority of Dolby panels out there, after all it's getting scaled down 4-TIMES as aggressively compared to OG-HDR-10 on any HDR panel that supports both with it's full brightness Bonus Work for the doubters who think OG-HDR10 will always clip at 1,000Nits, get to a Sony, even a 5 year old one without Dolby anything will work for this, run a "10,000Nits" "HDR Test Pattern" on KZbin, you'll notice on the standard contrast values it will clip early, put contrast down to 50(AKA the middle), now it'll differentiate all the way up to the full 10,000Nits with peak real world brightness being the same but the picture will overall be dimmer as a result higher scaling factor(kinda what Dolby's issue is exacerbated). Conversely, you can set contrast up to 100(AKA maxed out), now even SDR level 200Nits content will be expanded to the display's HDR capability & anything over SDR may start clipping(but with how dim some movies are authored this usually helps{even though it's technically wrong[it's still better then cReAtIvE iNtEnT because you actually get to see things rather than "Cinematic Blindness"}]) (ProTip do this on lower-end/older LED displays or those that disable local dimming in game mode along with the PlayStation HDR calibration after resulting in blacks by contrast looking darker and less milky and the highlights standing up against sunlight better! You're Welcome!!)

I have both consoles including a PC. I must say Xbox is actually the better console. The quick resume feature is great, it’s actually the more powerful console on the market, the only knock I have on Xbox is the lack of physical copies and the haptics on the controller.
