If Teddy had lived to witness Eleanor's behavior he would probably have been deeply ashamed for her. His widow and children couldn't stand to be in the same room with her.

FDR is my hero. And I agree that He and Washington are the best presidents in US history. Washington’s greatness is due to His single handed defeating the British and making our country possible

I am a conservative Republican and, I have to admit, I have enjoyed this biography on one of the most influential presidents and first ladies of the 20th century. Many people today, both Republican and Democrat, don't know that Roosevelt called for a 25% reduction in government offices and programs in 1932, along with moving many responsibilities back to the states. Today's Democratic party, and many establishment Republicans, would never endorse such a cut to the federal bureaucracy. Though it is difficult for me to agree with FDR on many of the government programs he created, I did not live in those times so I cannot understand the level of desperation that most people lived with every day. I am, at heart, a Reagan conservative who believes that the less government we have, the better. I also have a ton of respect for how he handled his disability with his legs. I do believe that FDR had a real heart for people, though. On that note, I give all level of praise to Eleanor for having great courage and strength in a time where first ladies stayed in the background. She was not a political climber, craving power, but a truly caring person who cared for the downtrodden and oppressed. I think she had a lot of sincerity and was comfortable in her own skin. She is the polar opposite of the power hungry female operatives in today's Democratic party, like Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi. As formidable of a couple as they were, I don't think they would get anywhere in today's Democratic party, which has gone far left and has left many of the old ideals of that party behind for the sake of power. The same goes for JFK and Jackie. If anything, they would be considered Republicans today on many of their views. Thank you again for a great biography. I have enjoyed so many of them!

I'm curious, are you a trump supporter?
@cgpapineauАй бұрын
@brucepoole8552 Absolutely, I am a Trump supporter. His record compared to that of Biden/Harris couldn't be more stark, on virtually every issue. I do not go by personalities, but by policies and results. I also look at what candidate supports the Constitution the best and who puts America's interests first. Harris is a radical leftist who would send this country down the tubes to its final demise.
@brucepoole8552Ай бұрын
@@cgpapineau interesting, I find trump to be moraly bankrupt, he really has no policy other than tax breaks for the wealthy and doing what is in his own personel best interests, I would think Reagan would be disgusted with trumps morals, for me, when I saw him mocking a disabled person that was the final straw, my son was born with a disability, now as far as Kamala goes, she is not as far left as many make her out to be, she gets my vote and I consider myself a centrist, the trump era is fascinating. Also, have you heard Liz Cheneys speech from yesterday?

FDR and JFK along with their wives were ideologically the same as many Republicans are in the present day as well as the Republicans of Abraham Lincoln's period. There has been such a paradigm shift that has occurred over the centuries when it comes to political parties that labels really don't count for matters actually. But if you are going to attach labels to ideology in the context of the present day, is the United States a Republican country at heart?! And that would include FDR and JFK, ideologically speaking, wouldn't it?!
