Combining exercise with daily activities works for me…. standing on alternate legs for balance while cleaning teeth ( assuming timer on electric toothbrush !) . Push-ups using kitchen bench as resistance while waiting for coffee to brew; heel raisers each time going up a step.

Every weight loss/ fitness journey is different but the framework/ process to get there are the broadly the same. They all involve hard work and dedication with big ups and downs along the way. Having dropped 20kg (through diet and exercise), and now regularly running 40-50km with 2-3 strength and conditioning sessions per week (and in and out of my physios), my key take aways are (no particular order) in conjunction with Will's 5 key drivers (many of the below overlap with them) 1- Be kind to yourself 2- Don't compare yourself to others 3- Have a plan (helps build a habit)- eg Monday morning run; Tuesday morning gym; Wednesday morning swim etc. Don't overdo it (injuries set you back) and take a weekly rest day from sport 4- Buy best quality (that you can afford) / appropriate sportswear 4- Don't beat yourself up when you f**k up (it will happen- eg a food / drinks binge), but do pick yourself up and 5- Persevere 6- Don't go food shopping when hungry and tired 7- Eat real food/ cut out soft drinks and alcohol- plan your meals and shop accordingly (also saves money as less waste) 8- Find a form of exercise you enjoy and include variety (ballroom dancing and table tennis are as valid as running and cycling) 9- When they weight starts to come off, go and buy new clothes that fit (it's a buzz and makes you feel good - see be kind to yourself). 10- If someone tells you "no pain- no gain"- for heaven's sake- ignore them

Negative motivation is certainly working for me. I usually see a very nice diabetes nurse who tells me not to worry about my poor results and just increases my meds, which make me feel even more unwell. This time however I saw a different nurse, who told me that my HbA1c level was so high she should now prescribe insulin and inform the DVLA. Whoah, Nurse Ratched! I wasn't having that, so I promised I would get my HbA1c level down to a healthy level, expecting her to give me 12 months. She agreed, but has booked me in for a 3-month review! At first I was angry, but now it's really motivated me. I'm eating sensibly, have cut out ALL sugar, and I'm exercising every single day. The weight is falling off me. My BP has dropped to healthy levels. I know my HbA1c levels will be vastly different when they're checked next month. If I'd seen my usual, kind nurse, I would be making no progress at all. Sometimes you've got to hear the unvarnished truth.

Thank you. If you can do it, I need to do it too. I'm walking every day, and starting healthy eating, cut out sugar and my sweet tooth is getting under control. I'm pre diabetes and my sister had had it for 8 years. I don't want to be diabetic. So I just lost 7 lbs, 20 more, then 30 More and I will be there.mine are every 3 months blood test too.😊 Best of luck to us both.

@@robbindohm3767 You've got this. If Mr No Willpower (me) can do it, I promise you can too. If you're still pre-diabetes, it should be even easier. Please don't let your pre-diabetes become diabetes. I was told I was pre-diabetes and then the pandemic hit and nobody checked on me for 2 years, by which time I was well over the diabetes threshold and feeling very unwell. Sounds like you have a good mindset, so you're going to be fine. Well done on what you've achieved so far. Keep it up.

I’m so glad you started your videos even if others didn’t believe in you. I am 41 years old and found your videos when I was pregnant with my 5th child and had horrible sciatica. Then after my daughter’s birth I used your videos to help strengthen my lower back. I had tried other workouts and stretching but yours was better because you encouraged slow and steady progress. I have recommended you to my husband too. Thank you! And keep doing what you do!

Perhaps this is included in one of the others but having someone you are accountable to has been a great help to me. My wife and I go to the gym together. There are days when one or both of us would rather not go but we keep going so as to not let the other person down. A workout buddy can be a great encouragement.

For me, the strongest motivation for exercise and healthy diet is feeling better, mentally and physically. It's easier to maintain habits and discipline when I am feeling well. At age 59, after rehabbing 5 months for pelvic floor pain, I was better than before. Then not a month later, I fell hiking and fractured my lower back. I was so discouraged that I gave up. After 6 months when I realized the pain wasn't going to go away, I did another round of PT and worked with a personal trainer. It took about a year to become pain free again. But I had built up the habit of going to the gym. Then COVID hit, and the gym was closed. I was able to keep up long walks and HIIT, but without the physical therapist/personal trainer, I dropped my strength building routine. What did I learn? That I need the personal trainer to reassure me that I'm ready and push me at the right time to increase the weight. And I can stick with a workout routine at the gym, but slack off with a home program. Thanks for the inspiration 😁

A few years ago I started by reducing over processed food for eight months establish a habit. Then eliminating snacks until it was a habit. Finally time restricted eating but at no time I was not flexible. All this took two years and lost a pound usually every 2 -3 weeks and now I am down to 155 pounds. When eating only two meals a day the important thing is eating enough to not be hungry two hours later.

Usual brilliant advice from Will. I have made the gym or swim a habit going most days. One thing that has helped me is doing it the same time each day (first thing) and having my kit bag ready to go. So I don't have to use willpower, just make it easy, pick up the bag and walk out the door, you dont have to think about it.

I watch a lot of YT channels, and there are a LOT of fitness and health guru’s out there. Still I come back to your good solid advice! I just watched your video on stretching while lifting, this is the best new advice I have seen in a while. I am a 70 year old female and I have been lifting weights off and on since my 20’s. My body has changed, and this advice about stretching and elongating the muscle is great!!! My muscles have gotten very “tight” at an older age, I am not so supple. I cannot wait to put your advice into practice! Thank you and this is inspiring, motivational and gives me renewed interest in the gym!! Thank you for all your great advice for us older folks! Well, I'm glad the negative motivation you received actually spurred you on, but ooooof, it could have gone the other way. I can't understand why people feel the need to knock other people down. Well, you turned that lemon juice into lemonade here on this channel and I'm super grateful. One piece of "negative" motivation that has turned so positive for me is the video you had on preventing falls by doing those slow step downs. haha I was so cocky when I tried them the first time... then appalled by how hard it was. That was a wake up call to finally start addressing my quad/hamstring imbalance and I've seen great progress after just a few weeks. Thank you so much!

Its about finding what suits YOU and avoiding one-size-fits-all advice. All the professional nutritional advice I've been given over 45 years, left me HUNGRY, and that is not sustainable, no matter how 'correct' the advice is. For ME, a ketogenic diet gave me appetite control for the first time in my life (also lost 45kg, reversed pre-diabetes and hypertension, fixed 35 yrs of fibromyalgia pain ...). Its not always a head-game

I started working out in the morning back in the early 80s before work because of traffic. There was no mass transit and traffic was horrible getting to work. But there was a gym across the street from work and no traffic at 5:00am when the gym opened. It became such a habit, I had a hard time showering at home!😁😁All these years later doing the same thing. Workout every morning. I am retired now, but do all the lawn and housework after I workout.

Thanks, can’t agree more with you, I was inspired by a lady in a gym ,motivated to have a better image of myself, after disciplined to do swimming ,working out in the gym ,I lost 5kg in one year.I have made it a habit to do exercise every day in the past 27years,keeping myself slim. Thanks for reminding me I should have passion to strive myself to achieve a better goal, especially as you have always say ,very important in building muscles.💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻❤️❤️❤️

I am 51, F, 168cm tall and 70kg heavy. I set myself 6000 steps a day. I love walking, especially in the nature, however something is working the other way around. First day 6000 steps - easy, second day 6000 - good, third - a bit tiring, fourth - getting pain, ..... seventh day - I feel too poorly, achy, tired, out of breath. Then I have a week or two break and give a try again. The same result. Then try again, because it will change at some point, right? Wrong, I am in the loop of trying and my energy is going from not so good, to really poor, and I have to start taking naps through out the day. I am drinking plenty of water, eat vegetarian diet (for over 30 years) but feeling so tired. I used to dance 2hrs a day, every day and was going to dancing bootcamps, dancing 6hrs a day and still having so much energy, that I was skipping instead of walking. Did I somehow spent my energy allowance then, when I was young? For several years I can't do things I enjoy, because I am too tired. I went to GP to see if there is something else going on with my body, but no, I am "very healthy and flexible for my age" :(

great PERSPECTIVE on it all!! here in SW FL, USA its the crazy-HOT heat in recent Summers! My (73) daily 10k road cycling+weights simply cannot be done! ughh.... even under a covered porch with double ceiling fans, its like sweating in an oven. I've heard Europe is the same, so...maybe a video for HOT weather exercise? thank you!

"Europe" is a continent. It is made up of many different countries with different climates and temperatures. I don't live far from Will and it is not a very hot summer in the UK this year.

I've gone from 198 to 162 doing OMAD(one meal a day) + snacks (2) on purpose! The "change" caused me to do it, because I don't want to be overweight. It's my 1st year of completion and oh, yeah at my height I'm too close to the ground to weigh 198.

That's how we Catholics are supposed to eat during Lent, the 40 days before Easter. The first week is always super tough but by the 40th day, you're used to it.
