This song is sung from the POV of a bloody fetus that's just been aborted....the lyrics are genius, and 21 yr. old Rotten's balls-out berserk delivery is brilliant - look at him go at 3:00 like a total lunatic - "I'm not an-anima-an-anima-an-anima-an-anima-mallllll!!!!!" ! What a madman! He pours everything he's got into it...and his ferocious "fuck this and fuck that" back at 2:22 - just WOW!!! Wow, wow!!! Sid's base? Irrelevant - so what? "Bodies" is a song with very strong content, that's what really counts, what it's about. Doubly impressive, it was not just made up, but on real life experience, based on the recurring abortions of a real girl they knew named Pauline (who John described as a "nutter"). "I'm your little baby, mummy!"....you seriously feel that fetus' pain! I remember as a teen when I first heard this song, it scared me. The Pistols were so intense. Truly a most excellent band.
@flyinspirals9 жыл бұрын
+Patty Cifra By and large, I agree, except.. I'll just say they deserved the opportunity to give a better performance. That wretched US 'tour' was a real waste, a disaster that does seem to have been largely created by the narcissistic McClaren, as described in The Filth and The Fury. There's a difference between channelling unhappiness into creativity and just plain being unhappy. Lydon just seems alienated and miserable, and he's not a guy to hide how he feels, is he? A wasted opportunity for all involved.
@RisforRockit7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Spared me some typing there. This song is so powerful, and transcends its "genre" - even if I didn't like punk rock, I would've to admit its quality. Not only does he write from the fetus' perspective, sort of, but he takes on the part for this performance too.... Not exactly 'quiet desperation' there. A song that's engaging and impossible to brush aside.
@filipematias51277 жыл бұрын
Patty Cifra : Johnny wrote the lyrics to Bodies inspired by a punk girl named Pauline who was their fan and one day went to see a Sex Pistols gig bringing her recently aborted 2 months old phoetus inside her handbag/purse! She went backstage after the gig and showed it to to all the guys in the band! It's a true story, check it out!

Paul is actually a pretty tight drummer...he rocks that kick drum pretty damn well. And do you ever tire of Steve's guitar? Love the tone he gets out of his Gibson. You have to wonder if they might have stayed together a little longer had Glen not be kicked out. When I look at Sid all I feel is pity for him. Steve wasn't happy to be in the band really from the Bill Grundy show and on. By the '78 US Tour they were barely speaking to each other in person. Steve and Paul traveled seperately from Sid and John. Steve by dallas was feeling a little ill and he knew the band was coming to a end by this point. Sid was out of tune and out key. Sid did play okay at Winterland, but only played the root note. Steve was sick of him at this point and unplugged him. Sid was so fucked up, he didn't even realize it. Sid was turned up for the first few tunes, witch Steve hated. During the winterland soundcheck, John was yelling at Sid to shut the hell up and don't sing etc.

Did Jones' really turn Sid's bass on during Bodies? The more I watch it I don't see any concrete proof that he does. The light on the amp is red before Jone's hit a switch on the amp and is the same afterwards. The audio from the Longhorn's show isn't the best, especially low bass. I've got this on VHS and watched it online but the bass audio is poor throughout.
@filipematias51277 жыл бұрын
ALISTAIR MACDONALD : Steve Jones first warned Sid a couple of times to pay attention to what he was doing cos' Sid was playing the wrong chords and out of tune! But Sid simply didn't give a fuck, so Steve turned down the volume of Sid's bass amp to virtually no sound, the result being the same as unplugging it! The volume of the bass amp was very low anyway cos' Steve had already turned it down since the beginning of the gig when he noticed that Sid was too much stoned and wasn't concentrating (no footage available but there's the audio recording of the full concert)! Sid seemed to be more interested in the 3 girls on the front row, right next to him, than in playing the bass regularly ( he knew how to play bass contrary to the myth and lies that were spread, he just wasn't a bass virtuoso but he played decently)! If you want to hear Sid playing bass listen to the soundcheck session recording of the Sex Pistols gig in S. Francisco back in 78!
