I'm loving all the comments coming on this video..and all the memories of hope chests and bottom drawers too. I don't have time to answer them all but I am seeing them ☺️ Thank you to everyone💐
@lyndseybeaumont7301Күн бұрын
You brought back so many memories with your tales of bottom drawers and singin’ hinnies. I was 17 when I got engaged and my first purchase for my bottom drawer was some tea towels. Mine was actually a side cupboard not a drawer lol. I married at 21 in 1981 and my first baking day consisted of singin’ hinnies, Victoria sponge, cheese scones, mince and onion plate pie and a cheese and onion quiche. I continued with a baking day every two weeks until my children were much older. Then I cut it to once a month. Now, I don’t do much at all. I’m way too fat to start with, and my son’s sweet tooth has disappeared. There is only the two of us left, so no one else to bake for. Your video took me back to a time I loved. I’m going to love opening the doors each day on your advent calendar and seeing what you have to share with us. Thanks for being so loving and giving, you are a pleasure to spend time with. God bless. xx

I used to bake so much more than these days.. When the children were young and there was still parents and grandparents to come for tea.. I still like to put an afternoon tea or a fireside tea together though ☺️

Oh so sorry, I accidentally posted my comment before I was done! I just googled the singing hinny, mainly trying to find out if the vegetable shortening is the same as our Crisco. I think it is close.. Interesting to see that the recipe is only given using currants which is probably why you only like them with currants! It’s really fun to learn about customs in other countries and especially in England since that is my heritage! Thank you Marion! Have a wonderful Adventure and a fabulous time with Naomi!! Just a delight as usual Marion. The singing hinnies look delicious. The mention of the bottom drawer reminded me of my grandma telling us about the Hope Chests of her grandma and mother. She said by the time she was old enough to have one they were so poor she called hers a Despair Barrel. She and my grandpa were share croppers in Oklahoma during the Depression in the 1930s. She made her dresses out of feed sacks. One year her mother made the Christmas tree out of a tumble weed, as there were no tree's to be had. I hope you have a wonderful time in Paris with Naomi. 😊❤

My eldest daughter have gone there the past 3 years and have made reservations for next year as well. Today it has been so lovely to relax with your 2 latest videos - I just enjoy them so much 🫶🏻. After a fun and busy 1. Advent celebration with my family here - little advent gift for the grandchildren and traditional Danish treats for everyone - “Marions World” is just what I needed😛. Lovely to see your garland going up again, Marion❤ Have a wonderful Advent season and enjoy your visit with your daughter. Your Singing Hinnies are very like wee griddle scones my mammy used to make here in Northern Ireland❤She cut them in triangles too. We called them slims in County Antrim but in County Down they are griddle scones. You've sparked a happy memory for me - I must make some of mammy's slims AND some of your Singing Hinnies❤❤

@marionsworld24 yes indeed. I see others have mentioned Welsh Cakes - I love them too, but have never tried your region's version, so I'm looking forward to trying them. I've just made my first star this very minute, following your tutorial😍. Since Advent has only begun, I can aim to make one every day and a little number. The thought of doing that pleases me very much, as I love handmade ornaments. I can hang little bits and pieces on it that I already have and might make some new ones too🥰 Lots of love and thank you for all the inspiration you bring us xo

Christmas season is here and I'm so happy you have started with singing hinnies 😂❤. I read a story by Mary Stewart, an English writer from the 60s, book called The Ivy Tree. Singing hinnies were an important part of the story, but I didn't know what they were. Thought maybe it was something like a doughnut or scone, but unique in its own way. Your recipe will be cherished in my kitchen ❤❤. Thank you, Marion, and many blessings for your super fun and busy advent season. Lots of love and warm wishes during this wonderful time of year 💞🤶🏼💞

I love the memories you bring up for me: my bottom drawer (even though I never did marry!), Timothy White’s, and seeing my mum cooking Welsh cakes on her “planc” which I think is Welsh for griddle. It disappeared in one of our many house moves and she missed that more than almost anything! Love your whole approach to life.

What a shame her griddle was lost. ( That's just reminded me of 'For the want of a nail....)😊

I have been looking forward to the Advent Diary so much. Really enjoyed your 'rolling pin story'. Am still using the wooden rolling pin I received at my Bridal Shower almost 55 years ago - it has rolled out many pastries! Have a wonderful time in Paris with your daughter.

Hi Marion, I've been waiting all day for you to pop up hehe 🤗you look lovely in your pretty tablecloth blouse ❤ I was going to say similar to welsh cakes, that another viewer had said, my partner Carl is from Wales and I make them for him, I had never had one before I met him though. I will have a go at these and see if he likes them too, I thought maybe sultanas or raisins as an alternative.🤔 So pleased you have booked your ticket for Paris, what a trip for the festive season that will be with Naomi there 😊 Looking forward to all the advent, I'm sure you will work out to do shorts, and remember to put yourself first before youtube and us. See you tomorrow 🥰🌟🌲

Thank you for sharing so much of your Christmas preparations. I have a glory box that I began buying household items for when I began work at 15. I always wanted to get married and create a comfortable home and once I did at 23 I had so many lovely things to start with. The recipe for Singing Hinnies is new to me but one that I will love to try. I know you will enjoy your time visiting Naomi in Paris. Take care xx

Hi Marion, my mum always made Welsh cakes and rock cakes, very similar to your hinnies. I don’t bake any more because my hubby is a diabetic and my children always say they are on a diet. I craft instead, hubby does a lot of cooking now, a win win. Lol I hope you have a wonderful time in Paris. Love Bella xx
