The huge house w/swimming pool, media room, luxury cars, best private schools, Ivy League college, designer everything, jaw dropping jewelry, mother/daughter spa days..Was it really what was best for their kids? David Chase said he was the same age as Tony Soprano when he created the show. Maybe Chase noticed a similar pattern of behavior in his own children (or their classmates or friends) resulting from living such an affluent lifestyle? The one thing I couldn't figure out was why Tony bought AJ that brand new yellow "tank" and Meadow that POS car.

Sure having money means you don't have the stresses that being without brings but that doesn't mean you're off the hook for being a good father/husband/role model. I've known heads of family think that just because their kids/grand kids are home and in their room that they are doing a fantastic job parenting, even though they never have a conversation with their little shit spawn because they're locked in their rooms spending every second on their phones or PC's. After all, a "Boss" could not live in a "cozy" home like the Bucos or worse yet, like Paulie (clipping coupons and owning second-hand art). From the first episode, Tony expressed dissatisfaction with his job and his life, and Carmela always felt guilty for being a religious hypocrite and living in denial. One of the constant themes throughout the series had to do with reconciling their souls with the choices they made. Despite their wealth, Mikey told Tony, via Christopher, "Three o'clock".
